Skate Canada 2024 Junior and Senior Sectionals

Vladimir Furman - Too Late To Apologize and Turn Down For What, he got into the Turn Down For What part! He looked like he had fun with it :) 59.13, please keep discovering your inner showman

Sales/Wamsteeker scored around 64. Their 80s songs were The Power of Love by Jennifer Rush (didn't know that Celine Dion was a cover) and Working For The Weekend by Loverboy.
Eighties hoser rock for the win!

Rafael Gossard - Exogenesis Symphony was kind of shocking, first time I've heard it in sectionals! Not his night with the jumps, that's okay, you've got a flamingo in the kiss and cry. 25.51 and that's junior men.

Anthony Paradis - I think his first combo broke the tech tracker, he had a step out on the second jump. Got the 2A, but then popped into a 1F. 65 for the score.

Antoine Goyette - fall on the 3Lz, popped the loop and axel :( I liked his skating outside the jumps, it's a nice contrast coming after Anthony. 43.15

Dominic Rondeau - 2A, 3Lz + 2T, fall on the 3Lo to start the program. No backloading, but he got the jumps in without pops and only one fall. 44.61

And I missed synchro for men, but looking at the results, Nova ahead of Les Supremes for the short.

Also, in AB, Lia Cho keeps on getting better.
3F 3Lz-3T< (under rotated 😳), but, wow!!, 2A (she is the only female that got 50+ in the SP in this whole section, and she is just a novice girl)
I can’t wait to see her Free Skate. The hardest element she tried at previous events was 2A-3T<

Alberta Junior Pairs Free

Natalia Custodio/Christopher Hammer - I think pairs suits him better than singles. It's a nice change from his singles programs, more of a calm performance and he looked more in control. He's a lot happier than after his free yesterday. I don't think they'll be challenging for the top yet with their technical content, but he's got some promise as a pairs man. Natalia was good too, it's just the difference in Christopher Hammer between disciplines. 66, total 102.25

Annika Behnke/Kole Sauve - I think they're the only Canadian junior pairs age eligible for YOG? She fell on the combo jump. I don't think their TES was much higher than Custodio/Hammer. 75.36, total 119.54, they're young and have time to grow. Hopefully they'll get the experience at YOG.

@RatedPG if you'd asked me, i would have told you about women's skating in Quebec :) it's intense :)

we haven't heard much about it in the recent years because the previous generation was not yet focused on jumping but on skating skills. Younger skaters are now aiming to get 3-3 very early while mastering skating skills. Long are gone the days when a Quebec woman could get to Nationals with only a 3s and a 3t :)

Yup. I wasn’t prepared. After watching AB and ONT Senior ladies where only Fiona scored 50+ (but, she didn’t skate the free skate), I wasn’t ready to watch NINE 50+ skates from ladies in Quebec. I can’t wait to watch them skate tomorrow!!

I don't expect 9 100 + skates in the LP :) step by step my friend :)

Got just in time for the end of junior pairs. The free went rough for Martina Ariano Kent/Charly Laliberte-Laurent. Fall on the 2A+2A sequence, 3Lo throw and 3S jump, she also fell coming out of a lift. Hopefully just some jitters to work out. 83.27, 133.03 total.

Izzo/Ferland - Beneath Your Beautiful by Labrinth according to Shazam (first time I used it, I guess it worked?) Single twist base, step out on the jump combo. I don't think she's quite there yet on holding the lift positions. 2F solo jumps. Fall on the 3Lz throw. Popped into a 1Lo throw, aborted a lift.

They're probably not ready for Nationals yet, that's okay. She's taking on a new discipline and not everyone adjusts at the same rate. 70.56, 112.07 total

Carignan/Pierro - 102.91, 149.17 total. Not much to say, they looked fairly strong together.

Thibodeau-Mailhot/Villeneuve - Not as strong as Carignan/Pierro, he's having jump issues. 82.34, 129.45 total. And then the stream cut out.

Carignan/Pierro very much deserved to win here.

Time to watch 28 junior girls bout it out for 8 spots.

Fely Gagner (sp?) is someone I always look for. She had an international event. I’m hoping she has a bye 😦

She's not on the bye list. The only woman competing junior domestically with a Challenge bye is Aleksa Volkova on the Patinage Quebec list.

Interesting? So, injured? 🥹
Could she be competing in Seniors?
I think only Rose and Justine have byes for Senior Women. She just missed a medal at an international junior event. She placed top 6 at the Next Gen event 🥹

Edit: found her
2023 Trophée Metropole Nice Côte Fee Ann Landry 145.30 4th Junior Girls

I think she is the best Junior Girl from Quebec now that Rose moved up; she beat Aleksa at the NextGen event and scored higher than Aleksa and Rose internationally.

Oh, okay, Fee-Ann Landry is on the list as having a bye for senior women! I thought you meant Mely-Ann Gagner! So yeah, she's in senior women domestically.

That makes sense. So, Fee-Ann, Rose and Justine with byes domestically?

The Senior Ladies Challenger event will be tough.
