Yu-na's new rivals for commercial dough are the Wonder Girls(??)
Here is a January 7 report on the commercial success of Yu-Na’s “Star” branded bread and how other companies in Korea are picking up on it.
Yu-Na Kim's new rival these day for the big dough is the K-pop group, Wonder Girls. Hopefully there is enough bread in bread so everyone gets the big dough.

Although Korean TV SBS broadcast much of Yu-Na's Christmas day skating special it did not televise the opening where Yu-Na skated to her bread rivals the Wonder Girls song. Here is Angels On Ice opening to the Wonder Girls number [amateur video]:

The highlight of this show was a duet with Yu-Na and TaeYeon the K-pop singer who originally sang the "If' song Yu-Na sang last May on TV and the Angel on Ice song "Can You Hear Me?" she sang on the ice Christmas Day at the Angels on Ice show: Yu-Na & TaeYeon duet

Yu-Na also joined the cast in opening the New Year’s show with "Goose's Dream", a hit originally made popular by the great African-American-Korean - R&B diva, Insooni. A recent awesome performance by Insooni herself is here. She just celebrated the 30th year of her professional career in a country that still has a lot of prejudice against Koreans of mixed race.
If you like the threads figure skating takes one down, Yu-Na covering a song by a mixed race Korean who had to struggle against tremendous prejudice to succeed -- and succeed she did -- at a time America elected a mixed race American to the highest office we have and other African-Asians have excelled in football (Ward Hines MVP in 2006 Superbowl born of a Korean mother and African-American father) and of course that moderately successful golfer Tiger woods. All of our societies have a long way to go in respecting the rights and dignity of every human being but the first week in January is not a bad time to enjoy the successes. Tough times are ahead but let’s hope the worst times of intolerance and bigotry are behind us.

* Link: [news] wg & kim yuna market ‘star breads’ 090107 Excerpted from article by Lee SangTaek @ IlGan Sports ([email protected]) Translation by: ppopki@spectacle from the original Korean here. The first confectionary company to run with the idea of star breads was CJ Tous Les Jours. CJ Tous Les Jours began marketing the ‘YunA’s Sweet Potato Cream Wheat Bread’ and ‘YunA’s Kaiser Bun,’ both of which were chosen by Kim YunA after a sampling test.
Since their creation in late September of last year, the ‘YunA breads’ keep marching forward in sales. They are selling at 3.5 times the volume of ordinary new products. This has affected other items as well. Sales have increased by 2 to 3 times their normal rate. Sales got a special boost with ‘2008 Figure Skating Grand Prix Finals’ during the Christmas season.
According to a Tous Les Jours representative, “New items regularly comprise 30-40% of the items available in shops. The YunA breads, on the other hand, form up to 90% at most. We’ll be reinforcing the line-up soon and market our items more aggressively.” It has been said that CJ Tous Les Jours has offered Kim YunA a 10% running guarantee for her involvement.
The ‘Wonder Girls’ cakes to be marketed by Crown Bakery are also garnering much attention. . . .
A Crown Bakery representative revealed, “We’re in the middle of raising the quality of the cake design and toppings. We’re planning to call the product the ‘Wonder Girls Cake’ as originally planned.” Once the cakes become available, the Wonder Girls are expected to receive a running guarantee as well.
A bread & confectionary representative stated, “Star breads involve greater risk in that their sales are dependent on the popularity of the stars at that particular time. However, they do offer the option of selling additional items like dolls or characters and may be a reliable plan for getting out of the market slump.”
