Senior figure skating Grand Prix> still fire left 'the edge'
Article Type 2008-11-08 20:10

BEIJING (AP) yiyoungho By Kim Yu-Na (18. Gunpo Suri High School) of the textbook jump in the long edge (wrong edge), but still feel like a bad decision 'attention marks (!) That left no room for debate.

Kim also Gymnasium in Beijing, China 8 days (首都体育馆) Women's singles free skating teukseol held on the link in the short program with 128.11 points (63.64 points) took the gold medal stand as a combined total of 191.75.

But I still have not gaeunchi left.

The first task a lot to the free skating, a triple flip - triple jump combination torupeu means to the edge and be careful of 'the buteotgo, extra points and was only 0.4.

8 of 9 people were judged chaejeompyo displayed in the 0-2 extra points gave the point, but he was the only one that gave -1 and technical controller (technology, the judge in charge of the score) It just left of the short program, the decision was' eotensyeon Mark 'Said the stubborn.

IB Sports Management sign of Kim "when the short program, the same jump in the long edge of the neunde did not play. Judged on their own, there's been a problem with the decision to admit," he said.

Gudonghoe, vice president of IB Sports, "the judge gave a shot back up to the mark eotensyeon still recur, but left the" The "International Alliance against the decision by the meeting of ongoing unfairness and intend to appeal," he said.

The article is poorly written, and the logic doesn't flow well. One paragraph says one thing, and the next paragraph says something else.

Anywho, this is a rough English translation..
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There was no "e" on Yuna kim LP at COC. However, judges still gave her "!" on her LP, spoiling her victory and leaving her vulnerable to more controversy. Yuna has been known and recognized for the textbook, perfect jumps.

Yuna deservedly won CoC with 128.11 in Long and 63.64 in Short program.

However, the judging in LP left many dissatified.

The 3F-3T combo, the first element of her free skate, was awarded with ! and +GOE was meager 0.4 points.

Out of 9 judges, 8 judges awarded Yu-na's 3F-3T combination GOE+ ranging from 1 to +2 . Only one judge slapped GOE -1 to her combo. However, technical controllers insisted on putting the attention mark (!) on the combination, which didn't help Yuna clear of the accusation that she takes off on an wrong edge.

Yuna's management contractor IB sports was quoted as saying, "the judges didn't give "e" in Yuna's LP, this is a good indication that the technical controllers did acknowledge their failure of judging in giving "e" in Yuna's short.

Dong-hui Ku, Vice president of IB sports said, "in Yuna's LP, judges backed off from their stance in Yu-na's SP. However, "!" in 3f-3t combo leaves a room for more controversy". "We will bring it to the attention of the ISU officials the injustice done to Yuna by the judges. We will continue to hold a series of meetings with them to resolve this issue.

Sounds like the Korean media twisting Orser's words to suit their purposes.

To make it clear, the article that I translated didn't say anything about Brian Orser. I think the original poster made that up.

I'm glad Korean federation is showing a strong hand. Those corrupt technical controllers need to be put in jail, period.

They deserve every heavy punishment. I hate technical controllers.

I could understand a protest or complaint if Kim failed to win because of an edge call. But to whine after winning by a wide margin----that is just chutzpah.

Such arrogance is turning many former fans away from Kim.

For them, it probably means more than getting a few more points to win.
I don't see it being arrogant, although there could be better ways to deal with the issue.

It doesn't turn me away from being a fan of her. :)

Second article did mention Brian Orser. But, I won't bother to translate. It was about some fans' reaction to the edge call, and we will just leave it at that.

From what I've seen , her lip was less obvious in the FS compared to the SP. That's why the technical specialist marked "!" instead of "e". It's too early to make a victory statement.

When I say fans are being turned away from Kim, it is NOT because of Kim herself, but because of the words and actions of the Korean media and Kim uberfans.

Yu-Na Kim herself is not responsible for what is being said about her and her skating. IMO, she is a class act.

Yes, the the media over there and some of their fans should really GIVE US A BREAK.
She won, and won by a big margin, what else do you want?

I agree with you. Last year they were all over mao asada. I think she was said to feel like she was being picked on, but I dont remember much more than that. The squeaky wheel does not always get the oil. Especially in figure skating. She should be happy that she kicked everyones behind. I can't feel too sorry for someone as gifted as she is.

I did not imply or mean to suggest in any way that KIM was objecting to her scores. It is the Korean media and some overreaching fans that are making noise about the edge call on Kim's flip.

I am sure Kim herself is satisfied with her scores and she doesn't expect people to feel sorry for her.

So please don't say you agree with me and then go off on another completely opposite tangent, therefore tying me to your opinion.

I think the issue is that while the edge call may not be important now, it will be important when Yu-na faces Mao, Joannie, and possibly Kostner (depending on what Kostner) shows up.

According to the translation by Fumie-Fumie :)rock:) of the original article, the only people complaining about anything are "IB Sports." Not Ms. Kim, not Mr. Orser, not the Korean Skating Federation, not the fans.

Presumeably IB sports is Yu-na Kim's agent, like IMG for many U.S. skaters. Their job is to beat the drum as loudly as possible, to get Kim's name in the papers, and especially to attract endorsement money for her. I wouldn't worry too much about what a public relations firm says.

I also think that SvetlanaInSeoul is not Korean nor Yu-Na's fan. He/She can write English but don't understand Korean. Furthermore, I have never seen the use of arrows like "The original Korean site↓" in Korean sites. I know some places in other countries where such usage is popular, but oh well... I just want to enjoy reading nice posts rather than being involved here.

Count me in as one of those who's been soured off of her. The bots are so demented it's hard to feel otherwise. I wasn't around during Michelle Kwan's heyday, but if her hardcore fans were this obnoxious, I can understand why many are turned off by MK.

I'm hoping the superior Japanese skater, Mao Asada (world champion, by the way), beats Yu-Na flat at the upcoming GPF and Worlds.

Ganbatte, Mao-chan!
