2015 Russian Nationals Mens FS

I think the Sochi Iceberg Palace has some bad skating juju and should probably be razed to the ground.

Artur: Awesome quad salchow at beginning, awesome ending step sequence, but everything in between... And why is the Russian commentator rambling on about Kovtun/Voronov during Artur's skate? Let the guy skate!

So sad to see him try to put on a cheerful face in the K&C.

Is Tarasova Gachinski's only coach? I think it's not working for him.

I think this is Menshov's last competitive season on Russian team. Next year youngsters will dominate him. But I hope they send him to Euros.

Ha! Hypocrite! Yesterday I said that Plushenko deserved his marks because of how inflated Kovtun was, and you called me an idiot. Today, you're scrambling around saying that Kovtun deserved his marks because Voronov was inflated! How is that any different? It's not. At least the judges gave a fair result last year. This year's is anything but fair!

I didn't call you an idiot. But I will now call you deluded for thinking I did.

Kovtun getting 89 PCS for a strong skate with two quads and two axels.
Plushenko getting 95 PCS for a poor skate with four major errors - and not even performing the program well in spite of those errors.... Heck, even if he went clean 95 is ridiculous PCS for that program.

Voronov getting 87 PCS for a strong performance but with an error on his second quad and second axel.
Kovtun getting 90 PCS for a strong performance but a doubled quad and messy spin.

You're telling me there's no difference? Kovtun doubled one jump... Plushenko doubled three jumps and triple a quad. And his PCS gap over Kovtun was 6 points. How about explaining how the heck Plu beat Voronov in the FS last year, seeing as how you're suggesting everything was okay with the judging last year...

My point is Kovtun and Voronov were both inflated but a 3 point PCS gap is hardly grievous considering both had strong skates and Kovtun IMO is a better skater than Voronov. Their PCS should have been 83 for Voronov and 86 for Kovtun.

I remember one of the BESP guys, Chris maybe, commented during CoR (was it CoR that Artur competed this year after SA?) that he was in Chicago for SA and he went to see practices - Artur was doing GREAT during practice, somehow he just couldn't put it together in competition.
I think Artur has the skills, he just need time to get them back to competitions. I'm still waiting and hopefully it won't take too long.

And if we are talking successful jumps:

Voronov did 1 clean quad and 5 clean triples (including 1 clean triple axel). Kovtun did 1 clean quad and 6 clean triples (including 2 clean triple axels). Obviously the 2S being the significantly costly error.

Also, lol @ those who say they telegraph their jumps equally when it's obvious Voronov has a much longer set up (not to mention Kovtun actually has transitions coming out of his quads and 3A).

Thanks for the pbp's and commentary! Can someone remind me - do the Russian men have two spots for Worlds? thanks.

Yes they do! I think both Voronov and Kovtun are a strong Russian team to send to Worlds, and good on Pitkeev for winning bronze! Poor Menshov though.

^ thanks! Yes and I agree on the team and poor Menshov, and poor Gachinsky, too :(

Congrats to the medalists!!! I think I might be the only person that like Kovtun's blue spider man costume, I will miss it!!!

I feel bad for Gachinski, but I can't say I'm surprised. If with TAT he can't even place top 5 I can't imagine the Russian fed can keep getting their hopes up. I hope he's at least happy continuing to do what he does... sometimes it looks like his heart simply isnt in it and that's sad considering his past promise.

Lol regarding costumes, I'm not a fan of Kovtun's or Voronov's and actually preferred the Spider-Man lol.

I think Russia's ice dancers have the most sane, tolerable costumes this year, funny enough!

I remember Chris saying that Gachinsky had landed everything in practice (at SA) - so, if that is the case, it must be some kind of mental block?
