2014-15 South Korean National (Jan. 7 to 9)

Guys will not come to Korea because of military requirement.

That's an interesting point... in my career, I work with college students and in my time have encountered a number of international students from South Korea. It is indeed crucial that they take seriously their military requirements - not something to joke around about.

Guys will not come to Korea because of military requirement.

There are certain conditions that, if met, a male citizen can be exempt from military service.
Looking at the wikipedia article on South Korean conscription, it seems that if an athlete wins a medal at a prestigious competition (it's not specified how prestigious, though) he can accumulate points to be exempted from mandatory military service. I'm not sure how well this would go for the Korean pairs/dance guys as none of them are really winning any medals at prestigious competitions, to be frank.

Also, military service must be completed within the ages 18 - 35 so I guess after they retire from competition (or maybe right after their last Olympics) they can revoke their citizenship and go back to their home country's citizenship. Not sure if this would work out, but it would definitely be easier if they had dual citizenship.

But, as breathesgelatin mentioned, mandatory military service is a very big deal. There were many controversies involving celebrities (and Yuna's ex boyfriend, for that matter) in 2014 that most definitely made the public more sensitive to the issue of exemption from military service and violating rules while serving. I'm not sure how this would translate to a foreigner representing Korea internationally, though.

Short clip/interview from official pairs practice at Nats. Looks like Luca is doing pretty well learning Korean!

Also, day 1 of competition is today! Hoping for many good skates today.

If I am understanding the info correctly, there will be no live broadcast of the first two days, but on 1/9 on KBS1 from 14:30 - 16:00 KST, highlights of the senior singles short programs and possibly the last group of the free skate of each discipline will be shown. Medal ceremony should also be shown.

Just like at the Ranking Competition last month, Daum Sports should be uploading videos live as they happen. The site is here, but there's no page for it yet as the actual competition hasn't started. When it does, I will link it here.

Junior Ladies SP begins at 11 am KST, so in a bit more than 30 minutes.

There are So youn`s official practice in her fan page at daum, I heard.

I think KBS will broadcast last day of Korean Nationals like last year.
Daum sports will update all videos by recording.

Bad news.
Choi/Manella will not show at the nationals.
There is a news that Manella didn`t appear at Incheon airport,
which means he break the appointment with Choi.
He said that his ankle is not good at the moment,
but it maybe just an excuse cuz he uploaded his fine pic with a lady
in his sns.
KSF had meeting today morning and consider disciplinary action to him.

SO MANY SKATERS!!!!!! Just imagine if all of them can land consistent 3-3s........figure skating can be dominated by S.Korea some day
I'm really impressed by Hyun Soo Lee.... She has more steps leading into her Lutz than some current senior ladies. Her StSq has lots of variations, and her spins are strong too. Hopefully KSU will realize Korea has a future in Figure Skating....
