Misha lived in China when he was a kid. I believe one of his parents (don't remember which one, mom or dad) is half-Chinese, I won't be surprised he speaks Mandarin at home. Years ago he even considered to represent China but there was no spot for him, so he went on to represent Taiwan for a short while.

A Taiwanese skating fan told me that she was surprised at how fluent Misha is in English and Mandarin. I read up a bit on his profile and he's probably the most international skater, growing up in different countries. He had the advantage of being immersed in the languages but apparently he has a knack for learning language.
