Who are you excited to see on the GP?

You know, if Tom is smart, he'll get her to rotate the jumps in her current programs before she puts her 3 Axel into her programs. I think Marai needs a sport psychologist as she seems to have a hard time staying focused.

Depends on what her goals are. Maybe at this point she would rather land the 3A at NHK than place well. She could still easily be one of the first 10 women and only USA woman under IJS to land it. Maybe the 3A is the legacy she wants to leave.

Didn't Kimmie Meissner land it under IJS?

Kimmie landed it at US Nationals, not in international competition. I imagine there are a few other ladies that have landed it domestically in Russia and Japan alone.

Also it was in 2005, so prior to IJS (I doubled checked).

Yes, this season, but there are 2 more seasons after that ;)
(not saying I think/hope he should, but he's been trying it in galas/shows pretty stubbornly, and I'm getting a certain feeling from that...)

I think it'll be in there in the 2016-17 season. Lol

That could be true but holy cow. If she's having knee problems, why would she take this obvious risk?? Here's my current problem with Tom in regards to Mirai. Mirai was, and is, a beautiful girl with so many lovely qualities. Beautiful extension, soft hands, perfect posture, and wonderful body lines. IMO, Tom is turning her into a trucker and it's not pretty.

Also, Mirai already has a great legacy even if she were to retire tomorrow.

I think getting a grand prix assignment is a huge accomplishment for a skater, so I’m really excited to see everyone at the grand prix. The day Skate America – the first event – starts is one of the most exciting days of the year for me.

Of course, when it comes to enjoying specific skaters, it all comes down to programs and execution, so once the information about music selections starts trickling in, I begin especially looking forward to seeing certain programs.

So far, I’m actually very interested to see Gold skate to Firebird. Really, once you’ve watched figure skating long enough, very few classical music choices seem original to you (and not that many non-classical either), but I think it’ll be something new for Gracie, something that’ll require from her more than just skate and be beautiful out there, so I’m really looking forward to her LP.

I’m also excited about Brown’s free program because again it’ll be something new for him, and I liked it a lot on the recently released video. I think it really showcases how graceful and musical he is, and I bet with the competitive jump content it’ll be very exciting too. I’m not worried about expression either – IMO he’s shown in Tristan and Isolde that he’s quite versatile artistically.

In the tried and true category I’m particularly looking forward to Chan’s LP. I’ve seen him skate an easier version of it in Japan Open and, of course, he looks like he was born to skate to Chopin. Similarly I loved Shibutanis’ exhibition program this past season, so I’m sure I’ll love their free dance based on it in the coming season.

I have great faith that Ilinykh and Zhiganshin will make both their programs stand out in the coming season, like they did with Carmen in their first season together: the music selections suit them, they have made their choices some time ago and are really into them, and they have obviously put some thought into choosing the right choreographers for each program. So combined with their expressiveness, speed and technique, I’m sure it’ll be a treat to watch.

I was also impressed that Astakhova and Rogonov have tried to do interesting programs in their first season together. I liked their free and exhibition programs very much and think their new LP will be something special as well.

I look forward to seeing Martinez skate to Beethoven and Prokofiev’s R&J.

I have to go out on a limb somewhat, but I think it fairly likely that both Weaver/Poje and Hawayek/Baker will choose to do a traditional waltz, with classical music and a romantic theme, and I’m looking forward to both.

In the new kids category I’m most looking forward to seeing Shomo Uno and Aleksandr Petrov in the GP. In the comeback category I’m particularly excited to see the return of Chan and Asada (and, of course, of Plushenko, should he regain full competitive form in time to claim a spot at COR).

I must say that I’m probably one of few people who is not specially excited for the “duel” between Chan and Hanyu at SC, though. I mean I don’t see it as being significant in any sense. Who wins at SC will bear no effect on who wins at GPF, 4CC or Worlds (if it’ll be one of them in the first place). I think that how they’ll place relative to each other at any competition will depend on who happened to skate cleaner programs at that particular competition, and so it’s all a matter of chance. One week it may be one, next week another, and the week after that they may both loose to someone else. I think all GP events have plenty of competition, and men’s competition at SC doesn’t stand out to me in this respect. Competition-wise, it’ll be interesting to see what form Lipnitskaya is in, because when she’s in good form she’s usually pretty stable and can impact every major event in a big way. (I certainly wish her all the very best and will be watching her first LP skate of the season with bated breath.)

I love the manliness and maturity Ruslan showed in Carmen, exceptional. Great potential is there. I'm hopeful this year we'll get to see significant improvement and not too much unnecessary interference from their fed.
+ 1.
I thought he was very passionate in Carmen and entirely authentic in the romantic FD and Exh.

Some other skaters I'm excited to see that I failed to mention in my first post: Ashley Wagner, Jason Brown (LOVE his new FS!), Satoko Miyahara, Rika Hongo, Weaver/Poje, Shibs, Hubbell/Donohue, Seguin/Bilodeau, and the return of Chan!

The "who wins Skate Canada has no bearing on who winds GPF 4CC or Worlds" has nothing to do with why so many of us are excited for the Chanyu showdown. Both massive skaters with potential to score 300 but also with potential to screw up majorly, all bets are off, and Skate Canada is the first time in two years we will see them going head to head! Will Yuzuru land even half of his quads? Will Patrick up the technical content? And if a miracle happens and they both skate well, who will be on top, a 3-time World Champion or an Olympic Champion? Pure entertainment value.

You destroyed our excitement

My excitement in seeing Patrick will not be affected by his results. If he skates clean, I will be as happy as can be. Plus, I'll be half looped on his wine.:agree:

I ask myself this every time he is going to compete

Prince Yuzu!

Also excited for Papadakis/Cizeron, converted me to start watching Ice Dance.

Given their past records, I think just one of them skating two clean programs in the same event will be a miracle, and if I see both of them do it at the same competition, I'll know that I'm asleep and dreaming :). But I'm not asking for miracles. If each of them has one clean skate of each program sometime during the season (for instance, SP at a B competition and LP at nationals), so that I would have one beautiful skate to rewatch from time to time, I'll be happy. Actually, the LP doesn't have to be perfect. If it has a doubled triple or a tripled quad, it's OK, just as long as the program remains aesthetically unmarred and nothing breaks the magic. You see, I'm not asking for the impossible :).

And as for this being their first rematch in two years, I don't think it'll be any different than their "matches" two years ago. I've seen enough of them and of their skates in general to know what to expect. Who performs how at SC and who wins doesn't particularly matter to me. So I'll be excited to see them skate this season, but if they meet at a grand prix event or not doesn't really make a difference to me.

I am most excited to see Mao Asada (and very, very nervous at the same time).

Lots of comebacks this year, especially in Ladies, Men, and even Pairs. We need D/W or V/M to comeback to liven up the Ice Dance field too. :)

I wish Denis Ten starts off well, have a good injury free Grand Prix, make the Finals, not lose steam and repeat his podium finish at Worlds for a change.
