2024-25 South Korean Figure Skating

Huh, I don't follow short track for the most part but at the AWG the skaters looked fine? Choi Minjung (my fave) won three gold medals iirc, Kim Gilli and Park Jiwon in men also won two gold if my memory serves me right, teams were disastrous but overall it was a successful competition for the short track team. Of course, it could be that the stronger competition is in North America or Europe, but I have faith in the short track team as well, they tend to peak during Olympic season (again, iirc). Korean media is not interested in winter sports unless there's a major event like AWG or the Olympics so while I haven't checked I don't think our short track skaters would have suffered from harsh press. But again, I don't follow short track that much, I only know that Choi Minjung is my personal GOAT :dance2:
AWG is of course, for Koreans to win :) the competition comes from USA, CAN, NL, Italy :) these days... not Asian countries

I wonder what's going on with my fave Hwang Dae-heon

ETA : wiki says Long covid symptoms... :(

PS thanks for your answer... I won't bury this thread with short track news... :) I was just chiming in to say that I agree that figure skating in Korea is very strong right now even with the recent news.

Hwang Daeheon is currently not in favor among Koreans after the 2023 Worlds debaucle with Park Jiwon, I didn't follow closely but I did hear that the audience actually cheered when Hwang Daeheon did not make the NT. And I'm used to Chinese short track skaters being our main rivals so I didn't know about Canada/USA/the Netherlands/Italy being on the top, interesting. Oh well, I'm too busy in real life to follow short track so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that Minjung will have a great competition at Milano :)

:ot:
Edit: apologies to the people who didn't want unnecessary info about Korean short track drama

A bit of FS fluff: Park Soyoun and Misha Ge got married! Apparently they've been a couple for about 3-4 years, it seems that quite a few fans saw them together but kept quiet. I didn't know so I was like :jaw: when my darling squirtle posted pictures of their wedding on instagram, but after the initial surprise I was happy for the newlyweds, and now that I come to think of it more Korean skaters will be able to get Misha Ge choreo more easily, which will be nice. Still, I would've never expected that the major thing Misha Ge said during a Korean interview that he was preparing for was his wedding

I had no idea - congratulations to them! I've always been a big fan of his as a skater, and I like a lot of his choreography as well. I know his background is Russian and Chinese, and of course he skated for Uzbekistan and has lived many places, including the US I believe he speaks Russian, Chinese, and English fluently. I wonder if he speaks other languages as well - possibly Korean? Perhaps he and Soyoun communicate in English or another language, but I'm guessing he knows at least some Korean. What a global citizen - that is so cool!

Kim Yuna at the medal ceremonies as some representative plus a thousand spectators, full house. sponsors were fighting, or Kim and KSU are not on good terms? (if I remember correctly, she wasn't invited to the 4CC in 2020 either)

Uh... no? The Queen came to give Young her medal in 2020?

I’m not sure if this is the place for this question, so Mods, please feel free to get rid of it if it’s not - but I was wondering if I might be able to find someone in this thread who has involvement/experience with Korean language skating fandom to ask some questions about a character I’m writing. If that describes anyone here, would it be okay for me to DM you?

Sorry, l’il awkward, I know :slink:But I wasn’t sure where else to ask!

Young's 1-year ban has been suspended by court, which means that she can compete starting from next season, which entails being able to try to regain her NT status and reach the Olympics. She has lost a whole season, and a pre-Olympic one at that, all because of the (bleep)s at KSU, I wish ill omen to them and may it continue until KSU stops being the absolute mess that it is

I am so happy for Young.

I have thoughts but since I do not have the time to argue with people on the internet I'll keep it short: our skaters did the most they could (Hannah and Ye were the only ones who were in full condition, Chaeyeon had a minor traffic accident 3 days before heading for Boston and thus had a bad back, Haein had boot issues, and my darling and Hyungyeom both had ankle issues), but scoring turned out to be something even less than a joke. I am proud of our skaters but as usual, our skaters love figure skating and figure skating gives them the middle finger before screwing them over. This applies to other skaters as well, so many got scores that could not have been given if the judges had even somewhat pretended to follow the scoring guidelines. As always, I love my beloved skaters but I do not love figure skating, and I'm actually happy that the season is over and I can mostly focus on finishing my manuscript before the deadline I promised to the publishers.

I will post matters of import if nobody has posted them on this thread, but other than that I am going to take a grateful break from FS. I will probably come back when the new season begins because I hate myself but I will torture myself a bit less during the summer, I miss you lovely people on this forum but FS is not helping with my physical, mental, and psychological health. So if you have questions related to Korean FS, you can either try google (with machine translations) or keep them until the new season begins.

I'll miss you but quite understand you need the breather and yes, the skaters are wonderful and their fed sucks.

Good luck with your manuscript!!!:love3:

Chaeyeon was involved in a traffic accident 3 days before going to Boston!? Geez, no wonder she looked a bit tight and shaken. I hope the accident wasn't too bad and that she can recover fully physically and mentally. Do we know more about the nature of the accident?

I think all the Koreans did their best at WC, especially proud of your darling Jun. I'm sure Sihyeong or Hyungyeom can safely qualify the extra spot in Bejing.

Give yourself as much time as you need @Ichatdelune, hope your manuscript goes well and life gives more happiness than figure skating :ghug:❤️‍🩹💙
