at Worlds,

two seed groups were established based on rankings. the Podium : Hanyu, Uno and Jin are seed group 1. They cannot meet in the GP season until the Finale.
Seeded group 2 is Fernandez, Chan and Chen : they also cannot meet each other until GPF.

Usually a GP features 1 skater from group 1 and one skater from group 2... and then 10 other skaters from various pools of ranking (top 12 at worlds, etc)

So Patrick will never compete against Chen and Fernandez on the GP season (which means NO Skate America for him, and perhaps no TDF).

I'm hoping Shoma might get Skate Canada. Doesn't seem too likely though.

We always have to be be careful we don't flip those letters when replying to his/her posts. BV = Base Value, or the amount of points each skater's technical elements are worth; harder elements attempted means higher total base value. The points skaters actually get for each element will differ based on what Grade of Execution (GOE) the judges award those elements, but that's a whole other discussion. :laugh: Welcome to our Patrick fest! :)

Thank you SF4E for bringing that interview and performance here. I love listening to the master explain his mind and am so grateful that he is so open to sharing. So much to learn from the best.

I'm extremely happy to know how Patrick gets into his moment and his flow, exactly what I wish for him to do and hope for him to do so perfectly at major competitions, especially at the coming Olympics. Whatever the scores and placements, when he gets into the zone, we are privileged to ride the flow and bliss with him even as he thinks he disconnects from us and the world. And just as I explained before, it's the feeling rather than the thinking, planning, and strategizing that carries a great master through a performance. When one focuses internally, one can feel the qi in the body and even to direct it. I think that's what Patrick does when he is in the zone and the performance.

I don't need or want to see Patrick flirting with me while he is performing. I want him to be in the performance 100%. He can "connect with the audience" with all his charm doing easier show programs. No cheese please in high stake high risk high performance programs. Let others earn their PCS with cheese.

Train smart, rest well, live cleanly, think positive, plan intelligently, be happy, and do your best at any given moment. Trust completely you have done all the above when you compete, be in your own world and believe 100%. I think Patrick has realized how he has done his best and knows how to achieve his highest goals in his last competitive season.

Go, Patrick!!!!!!!!

Wow, yes! I will transcribe this video, even though I think you've already done a fantastic job summarizing it for us!

Imagine being able to feel the blade on the ice and where it's going... That type of sensitivity has been honed by skating and training for over 20 years, no doubt. I am in awe of Patrick!

And he is definitely an introvert in the sense that he gets his energy from inside. That's why back in October I tweeted him to keep his inner flame burning. The more he can shut out external distractions (and his brain), the better he does. I just want to see him get to that point at the Olympics!

Today I stumbled upon this CBC fluff piece that aired right before Patrick’s Worlds SP. Vivley, it is definitely worth a transcript. :yes: A few fascinating things in it:

-Patrick says that he has to lose himself in his own personal world and “disconnect” from the audience and everything around him to get the job done. He loses himself in how he interprets the music and how the music makes him feel. If he’s going to skate well, anything beyond the boards doesn’t exist or matter during the program. It’s adorable how he says “maybe the audience doesn’t want to know that.” :laugh: I personally find that, when he skates his best, even though he thinks he is disconnected from us, I am still able to feel a lot of emotion from him; in other words, when he feels the most disconnected from us (he used that word, but I prefer focused inward), he actually connects with us (at least me) the most successfully.

-It’s so eye-opening to hear this from the master of the blade himself: “I feel my blades actually more [than hear them]. The sound is the aftermath of putting myself and feeling the blade in where exactly I need to be to get the optimum, whether it’s speed or edge quality. But for me, I can almost close my eyes and feel the blade, and the sound is the product of that.”

You're not the only one. When I was gathering info for my blog post, I spent more time than I'd like to admit finding and then copying and pasting relevant posts for each program. I had way too much fun and was way too thorough. :laugh2: (My blog post should be finished by the end of today, so stay turned. ;) I hope you all will think it was worth the wait, like Patrick's perfect Blackbird was).

I opened this page and wondered what had happened to make my post get on the top. Glad I don't have to review the previous page to find the reason. Pretty sure there was nothing controversial to cause deletion by a poster or the admin.
