2017 GP Rostelecom Cup Ladies SP

TAT said she couldn't sleep half the night because she saw that fall.
I could hardly breathe when Evgeina was jumping 3F-3T

Can we just take some time and appreciate the reaction of Maxim, Adelina and Maria?

someons's not impressed~~~

Maxim, idk what he's about. Adelina watches the one who will take over her Olympic crown and why should Maria look happy at all, she's fighting for spot 3? Idk how popular Medvedeva is in Russia. I always had the feeling that Julia Lipnitskaia was the most popular, followed by Elena. But that's just the cheers you hear on TV.

Mirai Nagasu -> honestly whoever from the USfed decided to send her here, they did a bad move.

First of all sending anyone to the rostelecom cup is tough considering the depth of the russian ladies, you knew that this wasn't going to be an easy game.

Then you have to land two 3A and skate clean here which is incredibly difficult for woman.

On top of that you're skating the same music of the two times Worlds/GPF/Euro/Nationals champion, so if you make any mistake, your version will look inevitably look worse. (and here the comparison really makes Mirai's SP look worse)

Ah and that skater is right after your SP.

Too much pressure on Mirai, she needed an easier event first to gain confidence.

I did not say that. FWIW, it's not possible to have poor basics and good transitions (unless by good you actually mean many).
I mean, there's the same amount of transitions in every program as every program has the same amount of elements~

My favourite Japanese here was Sakomoto. Now she should have been scored higher than Higuchi, who is clearly started to lose her impressive jumps. The URs and edges were way too noticeable. Sakomoto also had almost exact same layout as Medvedeva. Where is the "balanced program" police, now????? Is it only an issue when the Russians do it?

You think that poor basics + poor transitions >>> poor basics + good transitions and should be rewarded with a higher score? If that's the case, could I ask why?
I think you must mean good basics + poor transitions >>> poor basics + good transitions. I think you can't have good transition without good basics. We see too many bad transitions nowadays. Less is more imo.
I personally want to see the skaters gliding, taking their time. Carolina does that. Evgenia could f.e. hold that spread eagle longer for my personal taste. I want to see the skaters glide.
And I want to add (I have a tendency to do that) that people tend to forget about body movement transitions. Carolina has great body movement transitions.
But this SP result is ok imo, I agree with the ranking.

I get tired of all the transitions too. Yes, it makes a program harder, but it can also clutter. And, not all music requires or wants every note to be hit... sometimes a simpler, yet beautiful held position with lovely edges is what the music calls for at a particular moment... I would rather see a program where the choreography follows the music, rather than doing extra moves just because you can. Like feeling the need to talk because the room is silent, even if you have nothing to say.

Someone tell me what transistion she does? Because what I see that she is prepring for jumps very long

People were complaining earlier in the thread, about her program.

I am sad for Mirai as it's obvious that she is capable of doing more. I haven't noticed the underrotation at all and enjoyed it, too bad that the rest was disappointing for someone who did a lot of work to improve over the summer.

There were other surprises for me but I am not at all complaining. I think no technical mistake should be overlooked in any competetion. If it's underrotated it's underrotated. Harsh judging would encourage technical improvement and the competetion is way more exciting when smallest mistake could change the results.

As far as I can tell, Carolina debate will continue throughout this season up to the Olympics itself, so I'll save my words on that for later occasions.

I love Evgenia's program (except the voiceover and the breathing obviously) and her skating. I was expecting a minor mistake from her today since it's quite early in the season and this is a new program but she was as reliable as ever.

Overall a nice event with some unexpected stuff here and there. It makes me excited for what is to come.

The probrem with the spread eagle is that she waits 10 seconds, she goes maybe 10 meters to execute a jump. This is not even transition before jump. It shouldnt be counted

If the music is clean and pure and voidy then too many transitions is not responsive to the music you chose.

If you want to do lots of transitions then pick music that that amount of action is suited to.

I'm not saying is about anyone in particular but your program and your music should not exist in two parallel universes that have nothing to do with each other.

It was about "skaters with poor basics shouldn't bother with transitions" and I disagreed with that logic.

Gliding is fine as a transition and that's really not what I have a problem with. But it can't be all gliding. I definitely prefer more "busy" programs than some, but one still has to understand that they are supposed to show off difficulty as well. Galas are for different things.
