Just sent Evgenia's program to a few friends.

Judging by their reactions, she's helping create new figure skate fans :hap10:

Well, Evgenia skated as expected. Kaori has a skate of her life. The music is subliminal and whoever choreographed the program is a genius, and Karoi delivered to its full potential. Impressive jumps aside, the spins were so fast and went perfect with the music. It's a program I'd love to watch again and again. Didn't Kaori just changed her sp? Another level of awesomeness.

Ah and that skater is right after your SP.

Too much pressure on Mirai, she needed an easier event first to gain confidence.

When you skate, you may care about your skating oder in the group (ice condition) and who you skate after. You don't really worry about who skates after you.

The probrem with the spread eagle is that she waits 10 seconds, she goes maybe 10 meters to execute a jump. This is not even transition before jump. It shouldnt be counted

Assuming you're refering on the one on the 2a (the cameraman was focused on her face for no reason) it's 3 seconds and not 10 seconds, plus she does a back spiral on the landing and then straight into the illusion for the combination spin.

These are all transitions just for these 2 elements.

But the most impressive stuff to me is her steps on one foot in and out of the 3loop.

I also wanted to say this was one of the better Ladies competition. There were hardly any major mistakes, lots of 3-3s and high scores (leaving the outlier Nagasu aside, why does she spoils everything and everytime? I feel for American fans), that's despite a brutal tech panel.

Really interesting of competition! Couple of heartening skates from the younger girls, Mirai I feel proved the perils of putting all your eggs in one basket. Hopefully she can come out stronger tomorrow...

Thought that Higuchi's score was a shame as I really enjoyed the programme and thought everything looked good, but then I'm not a technical specialist. Glad to see her making use of Don Quitoxe!

I love Kostner, but initially thought her score was a little high. However, looking at the protocols, there's nothing there at I would disagree with: all spins and StSq are level 4s and she performs a programme with maturity that very few except perhaps Wagner can match. I also think that the quality of her skating looks (and probably sounds) miles above everyone else's, to some extent even Medvedeva's. I think this is probably the best to see from her, I doubt there is much I would expect to see improve through the season but it's a good benchmark.

Medvedeva...I'm just speechless. Aside from the horrible bit at the end which we all agree we hate, I love this programme. I completely disagree that it's rushed (except maybe for her Ina Bauer, I'd like a little bit more made of that). It makes use of the pauses and breaths in the programme without standing like a lemon for 7 seconds. This programme doesn't feel like a competitive routine that she's rushing to the end of, it feels like a proper piece that she is leading you through. Mirai's programme felt very rushed at parts and hugely empty at others with very little attention paid to choreography or even the build of the music. That's fine, but it then causes the programme to rely entirely on the individual elements keeping it going and you then need to absolutely nail your elements and it's very dangerous if you don't, as she found today.

Very pleased with Radionova's programme. She was so flat at test skates and Ondrej Nepela trophy whereas she really sold it to the crowd. Maybe that's home crowd advantage to perform in your own country and contributed to her high PCS, but that's not uncommon - Wagner at Worlds 2016 I'm certain performed much better because she was in the US and it settles you and allows you that space to play with the crowds which Elena did. Glad to see sassy Elena back!

And can we please institute a worldwide ban on using Carmen for an Olympic cycle, or at least mark people down a good 100 points, because it is never original and everyone uses the same flipping piece of music.

Probably but still all the other things i said counts.

Mirai isn't a super consistent skater even without the 3A, it was very tough for her today.

Evgenia is the goddess of Ladies figure skating and with the lead she has.....I doubt any skater will catch her. Bravo to her coach Eteri, Med is not only a gifted skater, she is one of the best competitors in the history of the sport.

Oh,no I dodnt men today..I jut remember her doing spread eagle before loop(maybe salchow .it doesnt matter) When she was doing it, and I was amazed how long she waited preparing herself to do it. After spread eagle ,it took so many seconds to execute it

I was very worried for Mirai during the starting pose. To me she was shaking and looked super nervous. After she landed the 3A I felt a bit relieved but that was clearly too early for me to relax...

I re-watched Mirai's SP and it looked like she was about to set up for the 3A (that's what I thought watching it live), changes her mind (even lowers her arms rather casually) then re-sets up again before going into the jump. I wonder if she somehow had a brain freeze and forgot her choreo at that precise moment? In any event, she seemed off from the start.

I get it that Mirai had a bad skate. But her 3A was downgraded? I have watched it 4 times - not seeing it.

About Mirai's 3A.... are judges required to deduct GOE (most were -1) because it was a < ?

Wakaba's 2A was incredible. I wish she would backload it to get more points.

It is matter of taste,I suppose i woulnd call a goddess someone who constatnly has open mouth. She is not elegant. Besides there s no such thing like "the goddess of ladies figure skating" :)

Well maybe she could, but she didn't. People somehow always forget that judges are not there to judge someone's potential but what skaters put on ice on that exact moment. In that exact moment Zhenya brought much more in her programme, that Costner was on pair with her only in interpretation (well, in my opinion). And when men are getting 46-48 of 50, I see no reason why ladies shoudnt get 37-38 of 40.

I'm sorry to hear that Mirai had a bad skate and is currently in 9th. She had a similar outing last year at Skate Canada w/o the 3A.

I wish she would leave it out of the SP and just use it in the FS. Maybe she can make that decision for NHK or learn to skate dumb and not psych herself out.

Hope she skates mad and moves up in the FS. Not expecting her to medal, obviously, but she might be able to be top 5 here with a similar performance to the JO.
