2017 GP Skate Canada Ladies FS

Uh Osmond won by 20 points. The 9.5's and 9.75's are crazy (not as crazy as getting 10 with a fall) but her overall PCS was around where you would expect it to be with average home inflation. Elsewhere she would still clear 70, I'd imagine.

I would looooove to cross reference those wailing inflation here (when Osmond wasn't egregiously inflated, and neither were the other two Canadians at that) with whether or not they had anything critical to say about Rostelecom.
It was inflated obviously. You just said that the 9.5's and 9.75's are crazy :cool14:

For one her sense of entitlement is not commensurate to her actual ability. For me she and Kostner are the most irritatingly overscored skaters in FS. The bad news for her is at least Kostner once in a blue moon shows that she is actually a capable and elegant skater. I cannot say the same for Wagner ever.

Respectfully I disagree and don't see the entitlement you refer too. Ashley has been honest about her chances and complimentary to her competitors on many occasions.

Well this was a very weird competition. I just hope that Anna is more shaken than hurt and everybody else knows what they can do to make the rest of their season better!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Marin deserves MORE!

Not surprised about Kaetlyn's scores. I feel like they're trying to give Zhenya a rival for the OG. She is the rightful winner here. The same thing happens with Zhenya since her senior debut. Rightful winner but so overscored. And since Kaetlyn is a major contender, I expected her scores to skyrocket as well. At least she didn't break 140. I don't have the energy to complain about the scoring anymore. Judges and tech panels really suck it out of you.

Ashley's medal is pure luck. For me, Marin deserves that spot.

Anna, as much as I'm sad for her, gives me mixed feelings. Because this happened a lot before and it's painful to watch and literally painful for her.
She deserves a better coach tho. Someone who can cheer her on and accept her mistakes. If what her coach said is true, she needs to be fired because who kicks a student down even more after that? Seriously, why??

Ashley landed 6 triples, got no gifts whatsoever. she earned this bronze b/c no one else skated like they wanted it. if anything, she was hammered a bit. Marin was ahead of her on the free, she' didn't recieve any gift.

This is the real travesty of this event. Marin could/should've been on the podium. She skated first, which really did her in. Her chances of going to the GPF were killed in the short program. Skate Canada has had a very harsh panel during the last years. Satoko and Rika had really tough times here. I would be cautious to send my skaters here. I'm curious to see how she'll do in China.

The panel did not make Marin fall on her opening combo, single her axel, stumble on her footwork, and miss levels on two of her spins. And the two URs in the FS.

She could have medaled given how messy this competition was, but that SP was a royal mess. The judges were ready to give good scores to her too.

Still a strong comeback in the FS for her.

I won't even comment on the mania for accusations of overscoring on display, except to say that it's no surprise that Kaetlyn would be the only skater with no downgraded jumps. Under rotations have never been one of her weaknesses.

Marin almost never got ur calls or edge calls, but she got two ur calls here. Absolutely no benefit of the doubt. There were calls for everyone multiple times, except for Kaetlyn, and that's not a coincidence. Her lutz edge is far from clean, for example, but no calls were given, of coure.

Regardless of the "Relationship" You NEVER tell a student that you are quitting unless you mean it!! I wouldn't be able to trust, or even look at a coach who spoke to me like that. I have been on both sides of the fence and I can tell you, that conversation would have broken my heart and ended our relationship.

I am in no way saying that that she should have told that to Anna  But it is interesting, usually the K&C is fairly reserved with the real comments happening in a private setting. This conversation was also clearly not intended to be heard by us, they had no idea the mics could pick up their conversation. I think both of them are really frustrated and manifesting this in unhealthy ways. Perhaps Anna should swich her coach. Regardless, I don't want to be quick to judge.

I didn't see the ladies but I did saw Osmond and her score. With that skating she get 200+, I wonder how bad the others skate 🤔

People forget that Marin bombed SP. I would have given 3-5 point higher PCS scores to her across both programmes. But it would still not have been enough to beat Ashley. Ashley was not great but kind of mediocre but consistently mediocre across both programmes so I would give her an edge here. Marin needs to start build consistency and not bomb parts of the competition.

The judges were responsible indeed for her extremely low pcs, lower than her junior programs even with a practically clean LP. They were never ready to give her good scores, actually they gave very hard scores for everyone except for one skater.

I probably put that wrong...She killed her chances in the short program. Of course, that's all on her. But that made her skate last. A series of unfortunate events.

Urmanov was great for Yulia- she speaks very warmly of him. I also think he'd be good for Anna.

And Anna has the jumps already, she doesn't have 'much' problems landing them. He could be a good coach for her, especially because he does have strict training too, besides being very nurturing of his skaters.

So you're up in arms when the Russians do it but perfectly fine when it's Kaetlyn getting a pass and highest PCS in the entire competition for mistakes that definitely impacted her performance and inflated scores?

Marin, Rika, Maria, Ashley all skated relatively clean but except for Ashley, were really severely marked. I remember the LOOK on the faces of Karen, Rika, Maria, when they saw their TES plunging.

How is it Ashleys problem that the judges scored her a certain way??

She can't rely on performing this poorly and always getting propped up, of course. She has nothing to fall back on if they in the end do decide to judge her fairly.

She even was complaining about her scores, reportedly.

Skate Canada's always had the highest inflation and it's very tough for some to come to terms with that.

This event is a disaster.
Technical panel have ate red chilli pepper.
Wagner is a very lucky lady.
