2018 US Championships Sr. Ladies SP

Caroline’s combo spin was brilliant. Great speed, great positions, great centering, fantastic I-position and the best part - it connected with the music nicely.

Ashley’s lowballing in PCS nationally is stupid. Even with the mistakes, she is ahead of everyone else in 4 out of 5 categories. Just ridiculous. She should have scored a 68 with that program, if you are giving Bradie and Mirai 73’s with theirs. At least she is only a point or so from 3rd right now.

She would score even lower internationally.

I mean do you honestly think that her sp was really the greatest ladies sp to receive the highest score ever?? They are saying it with her scores

Her score was less then a point higher then the previous, that's hardly some unanimous declaration. Hardly some coronation :rolleye:

And for your information Mirai beat the previous record too. And with a mistake! At least Bradie was clean

I have to wake up at 4 am (ironically for skating practice) tomorrow but I CAN'T GIVE UP NOW! I MUST SEE KAREN!

That's what coffee is for right?

People wondered if there'd be some PCS penalty for reusing that program again. There's your answer.

Uh, no, she's not gotten penalized internationally and here, the judges seem more to be deflating components than to be punishing Ashley for anything. At any rate, it's like reading tea leaves. It could be that the judges have been instructed to deflate PCS because they want a technically consistent team rather than one that subscribes to the Kostner school of resting on your component laurels.

At any rate, one can rationalize Bradie's PCS by reference to her superior transitions and execution of the program. It's not all about "artistry"

Ashley's PCS are a joke. In what universe Bradie's scores can be that close to hers?

This is also why I hate random draws, if they skated back to back anyone would be able to see the huge difference.

The good thing about Ashley is the usual info. She likes being the underdog, she skates better when she's mad, she LIVES for the drama, and she skates better in the long program.

Even with the jump mistakes Ashley never let go and gave a PERFORMANCE. Sad the judges didn't want to recognize that...:if Carolina can get away with it why not Ashley

Yes, it is a bit ridiculous. Bradie looks so slow on the ice. She will never get those PCS scores internationally. Why would they drop Ashley's scores so much? That was the best SP of her season and her PCS was lower than her international scores.

The one lowballed so far is Angela. Should be 10 points higher than Ashley and in 1st right now

Hand-down on the opening 3F (might be <). Was a bit wobbly on the entrance edge of the 3Lz (also might be <), so the fall was not a surprise (also no combo). Good 2A. Slight hitch in the footwork when trying to reach the spiral. Wonderful layback spin to end, though. I'm surprised she has been having trouble with the jumps because she's usually clean on them.

I think the choice of the Four Seasons is a bit too mature for her. The changes of tempo in the music were mainly left untouched, and the lack of facial expression became more apparent. She's still a young skater, though, and will improve over time, learning to skate with the music instead of over it.

Because Ashley is no Carolina, that's why.
