2018 US Championships Sr. Ladies SP

why the heck would they review her spin levels? Karen is one of the most consistent over-levelling (is this even a word???) spinners in US....:frown:

Mainly making sure she got two full rotations on each of her spin positions as she can be very quick between them.

Wow. They really don't want Ashley to be on the podium do they?

They certainly aren't doing her any favors. If she wants to go to Korea, she is going to have to make a case for herself in that long program. I think the pressure may be just a bit too much. I hope I am wrong.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see Moulin Rouge on Friday night.

Well that was an exciting night. I'm gad Mirai hung in there after a nervous start. Big surprise w Ashley. Excited to see Starr Andrews again in the LP.

Bradie PCS
PB: 29.38, This Season: 27.44, 29.38, NATIONALS: 32.91

Mirai PCS
PB: 33.00, This Season: 30.24, 30.72, NATIONALS : 31.19

Ashley PCS
PB: 34.77, This Season: 33.47, 33.68, NATIONALS: 32.94

Karen PCS
PB: 31.63 This Season: 30.43, 30.93 NATIONALS: 33.80

Are you serious??

I love Ashley, but I'm tired of that SP and I'm sure the American judges are, too.

Chen's self-choreo'ed program indeed looks flat and uninspiring. Even using the same music I think she can tweak it so that it has a much bigger impact.

Ok, Ashley is within fighting range, but should be closer to Karen. I really think the judges are trying to enforce their own narrative. Didn’t know that USFSA had it in them to Politick mid competition like Russia.

I doubt it. She even said after the SP that she might consider getting a new shirt because the freshness of La La Land feels so good.

The judges had better go gaga for La La Land. Or Ashley's probably headed to a pre-Olympic retirement from competitive skating. For the last two years, the USFSA seems to really be sending Ashley a message that they're done propping her up.

It's telling that Bradie Tennell and Mirai got season's best PCS. And, almost out of nowhere, Karen got a season's best score and is in qualifying position.

Friday should be very interesting.

It's going to be an interesting night of long programs.

Looks like judges are looking to have Bradie or Mirai as National Champion and Karen as the 3rd pick. I think Ashley will be left off the team.

I thought Karen's SP was very elegant and had the most attention to detail (as J/T noticed, I actually agree with them for once) while having exceptional speed. Some other ladies were elegant but little speed. Bradie's arms and posture need some work, some of her positions are not very refined and she skates slow. Ashley went for a lot of gimmicky performance things like shaking her hands and bunny hops, and does not have quite as much worked out on the polish - plus, that small twizzle hiccup? That definitely brings down the PCS. Mirai has the capability of bringing attention to detail and elegance like Karen but she was waaay too nervous in the first half.

With all these considerations, the PCS are quite fair.

What a story if Mirai manages to do the 'what many considered to be impossible' and win another title this year. Got left behind last Olympics in heartbreaking fashion, rediscover that fire within herself again, learned and landed the 3A (in her 20's!!!!), and now wins her 2nd national title 10 years after her first. :eeking:

But really, she needs to skate like she has nothing to lose. If she starts to tighten up with nerves again, she's going to be hammered with UR calls.
