2018 US Championships Sr. Ladies FS

I do think Bradie should try backloading next season. If any US lady can do it, it's her. So much solidity and confidence. It's admirable, and it's what's been missing from the US ladies for a long time. Plus, skating last definitely put her in the pressure cooker. Heck, I think she should do both team programs.

Ooh I think a backloaded program would be great for her!! Imagining her TES score now omg

I would send Ashley to Olympics and Karen to worlds. Pull a reverse Japan. Ashley got underscored in PCS in both segments, while Karen got the benefit of the doubt in the SP. Karen also got a salad of carrots in the FP, like she has all year. She did get placed in Bronze by the judges, so she should still get a good assignment, but if USFSA is smart, they send Ashley, the one who has been doing the press and advertisements, to the Olympics for her Swan Song, and Karen to Worlds, to prep for the future.

I would argue the reverse. Ashley can go to worlds for her swan song, she’s already been to the olympics. Karen likely has another quad in her and could use the experience.

What absolutely ridiculous statement. She got two undeserved underrotation calls (including on her amazing Triple Lutz, which is totally baffling) and undeserved downgrade call on the Salchow that should have just been a single < call. It's amazing she was deservedly placed 3rd with all of those calls against her.

Just a tiny correction: the triple toe in combo after the lutz was called under, not the lutz (which was great!) And the toe does look a bit under imo (YMMV,) and I can see why the tech panel wouldn't give her the benefit of doubt given her history of URs.

Edit: I totally thought you meant the lutz in the combo. You're talking about the solitary lutz, duh! Apologies!

Karen's performance at Worlds last year will probably give her the edge over Ashley.

She secured her own spot there it seems lol.

Karen was :( all season, though. I agree (unfortunately) they can't send Ash in these circumstances. I'm devastated :(

For those holding out on whether it will be Karen or Ashley, it will obviously be Karen. Just look at the PCS.

I REALLY wish Karen and Ashley duked it out at Four Continents. It would be the most fair thing, but again, I don't think they would give Wagner that shot (they'd be more likely to give Karen that shot if the positions were reversed).

I still can't with Bradie getting highest PCS. I can get her winning but she'll be lucky to get 65 PCS internationally.

Her PCS should be revised and given 10s for this performance. I mean, the last thing she wants to do right now is be polite and smile, but she is playing the part. Jagged little pill to swallow, the pewter medal is.

Maybe she was asking Mirai for pointers while Bradie was skating.

Exactly... the same crap over and over... it is stupid, political, federation meddling and and nothing to do with what went on the ice. Let them skate, treat them with respect, mark them equally, consistently, no preferences.

This! but not gonna think we will ever see it in the next 30 yrs!

Yeah the pewter podium is beside the 3rd place podium, like the extension of the long train of an evening gown.

Heck. Send Mirai, Karen, and Ashley to 4cc. Top two go to Korea. If you add up all of the qualifiers and average it out, all of these ladies would pretty much tie for qualification. That’s what makes it extra heartbreaking

Let's sum it up:
- Karen is more naturally talented skater than Ashley,
- Karen placed higher at Nationals than Ashley,
- Karen secured three Olympic spots at last Worlds.

Hmmm, let's contemplate, who should go to Pyeongchang...:think::think:

Karen was :( all season, though. I agree (unfortunately) they can't send Ash in these circumstances. I'm devastated :(

If they WANTED to send Ashley, they would've given her PCS equal to what she earns internationally (PLUS regular Nationals inflation!!!). She was doomed from the beginning, which no one predicted. I think we all just about expected USFS to give her all the help she needed to get on that podium (THE REAL ONE, not that pewter BS) no matter how good or bad she performed, justified or unjustified.

I still can't with Bradie getting highest PCS. I can get her winning but she'll be lucky to get 65 PCS internationally.

64.41 at Skate America, so 65 is possible with Olympic inflation. On the other hand, once she has more than just Miyahara but also Medvedeva, Zagitova, Kostner, Osmond, etc she'll look much worse by comparison than she did at SA where she only had to contend with Miyahara (who realistically deserves like a 10+ PCS gap on Tennell but only had a ~6 point gap ).

angela wang started out strong and toward the end falter - acted like tired.

bradie not competitive internationally 3rd at sa her 2nd international competition ; 3rd place in free skate at lombardia-challenge skate. The score at nationals might.- she can go higher at olympics due to her ur can be fixed in less than 5 weeks.

mirai been competitive internationally 10 years didn't reach 200 until summer competition (that i know of ) broadmoor-local. & u.s. championships.
The u.s. championships-with errors your right she will possible go because they are sending a message mirai gets 213 with errors, but no ur on the triple axel, just on her 3lutz 2toe she can go higher

how much higher depends on whether the international don't ur her 3a like the u.s. didn't when she made a mistake-that is unlikely for several reasons mao- got call ur, when made mistakes, miki ando- when tried her quad,
i can't see mirai getting her triple axel down in less than 5 weeks. however where she got the ur can be fixed in less than 5 weeks.

I seriously doubt olympic judges will give mirai the same benefit of doubt on 3axel like the u.s. national judges did

same goes for bradie has a better chance she got a 219 with a downgrade her can be fixed in less than 5 weeks.

will mirai goes-if just based on this yes, she will, but she didn't medal at gp events, nor did she win. (never been to grand prix final in 10 years.-not a criteria)placements at worlds 7th & 10th

karen medal at u.s. classic, finished 4th at her 1st worlds help u.s. maintain 3 (not a criteria)

Bradie just jumped up to seniors how will they judge her criteria. 4 in lombardia 3rd in free skate, 3rd at sa gp event, highest scoring lady this year.
she is on a roll--she is the hot one this year.

Ashley- been consistent- went to gp final last season, medaled at gp even finished 7th always her lowest finished placements, former silver medalist as well as olympic team bronze.
ashley placements 16th 1st in 2008; 7th in 2012, 5th in 2013, 7th in 2014 along with a 7th olympics, 2015 7th, 2nd in 2016, 7th in 2017. as well as been to grand prix final 3-4 times.

not easy task.
