2018 US Championships Sr. Ladies FS

The debate in this thread for who should go to the Olympics is simple.

Do you want a consistent, B minus performer who’ll do respectably but little more.

Or do you want to risk it on someone who will in all likelihood screw up, but has the chance to own the night.

Those are incompatible perspectives. I'd say just risk it but I understand and respect the opposite position.

Do any of you who have commented on the last to or three pages figure skate? From what I saw, Ashley was over marked in the PCS marks in her FS. She should have been marked lower than Starr. Starr was absolutely clean and had good jumps.

Your last 2 sentences have nothing to do with PCS.

For people who don't think under-scoring matters since the relative placements seem right - if you've ever competed in a judged sport (as I have) and you know or believe they are biased against you, that makes you very nervous and prone to errors since you know you have to deliver in an unrealistic way. Unfair scoring can affect athletic performance in judged sports dramatically.

I think Mirai was in place similar to that one. She knew they weren't going to go with the PCS for her. She had 2014 in the back of her mind. I know that there's the whole oh her 3A isn't clean etc but the pressure that was on Mirai at this moment was through the roof. Yes, I'd say much bigger than Bradie, because even a total newbie to skating could tell the Fed wanted Bradie.
I'm really glad she made it and knock on wood, she can now skate at those Olympics with all she's got! This will be a huge boost and no Fed meddling in PC to this extent.

Why was there literally a horror movie scream from the audience during Karen's Biellman? Was someone trying to distract her?

The long-time problem with U.S. figure skating: Favorites are built up so much they expect to be entitled and then they rest on their laurels, for years.

As far as Bradie goes, when someone skates two clean programs back to back, without mugging for the camera like a silent film star and shaking her moneymaker in a skimpy costume, and manages to do the job strictly on her skating ability ... I think it's refreshing. Because in the end it's about the skating. Go, Bradie!!! :cheer:

Yes, ma'am. Go Bradie. Thank you for your beautiful skating. Haters can hate and Bradie will go to the Olympics. Good for Bradie.

I think that's part of it. The judging system has been out of control since 2015 Worlds, maybe even before.
These are crazy numbers (if you ask me, I think the world record should still be held by Tuktamysheva, because she landed a 3A and Medvedeva can't) and something needs to be done, stat.

But aren't scores at all countries' Nationals pretty much elevated? They are all on home turf, after all. And it's obvious some of our skaters need the ego boost, something to award the countless hours of hard work. What does it hurt?

If the nationals judges scored in line with international results this season, Ashley would most definitely be the bronze medallist.

Bradie's score here would have pipped Yuna Kim for the silver at the 2014 Olympics.
I'll just leave that sitting there for a minute with a big LOL. Get real. The USFSA is to blame for overscoring these girls again, and again, and again, and then casting them aside as soon as someone comes along and skates two clean programs.

Her PCS also beat Wakaba's bond... just no no no... they really held Ashley down in PCS for both programs and Karen in TES in the FS.

Ashley might have scored higher if she skates after Bradie, instead of skating earlier than the contenders. Are these skating order truly randomly drawn?

judges were so ridiculous tonight playing their little games... that's why I say, just judge what you see in competition and the rest will eventually turn out so much better than playing all these mind games

1. Overlooking Mirai's UR in both SP and FS. She'd probably still be second overall if they had called her UR, because Mirai skated an (for her) exceptionally clean FS, but that SP score was not deserved

2. when did Ashley fall out of grace? Is it because she pulled out of SA? I know she was slow in the SP but it's not like that's something new and her performance quality hasn't regressed, so why that sudden dip in PCS?
So judges first put her down in PCS in the SP, then in the FS she brings it and they still are stingy with the PCS (for their standard).
Then they see Karen bring it too and changes their minds, showering Karen will lots of undeserved and shady UR calls, but it's no use, Karen still ends up above Ashley

So in the end we have:
- lost popularity and audience because of this shady judging, UR calls as they like and PCS as they like
- lost potentially young skaters because of this shady judging, UR calls as they like and PCS as they like
- not even a change in result as Karen is still above Ashley
- no clear message to fellow skaters of what USFS values in PCS. It's probably the SS, as Karen's PCS were a tick higher than Ashley's, but since all those years and historically the US also valued performance and interpretation quality (and now suddenly doesn't anymore), who knows?

JUST WATCHED BRADIE'S LONG PROGRAM.. i AM soooooO hAPPY FOR HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SHE SHOWED THE OTHER LADIES HOW IT'S DONE!!!! gREAT INSPIRATIONAL PROGRAM, DREAMS REALLY DO COME TRUE......OLYMPIC WORTHY. I KNOW SHE'S GOING TO GET PICKED! USFSA ISN'T SO DUMB AFTERALL!

SHE DESERVES BETTER FANS THAN THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE SAYING SHE IS BORING, GENERIC, UGLY, ETC. WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE, HUH??? GIRL'S GOING TO THE OLYMPICS...JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO, SHE WASN'T EVEN CONSIDERED, A NO NAMER, UNDISCOVERED, AND YET NOW SHES STANDING ATOP THE US NATIONALS PODIUM, NO COMPANY SPONSHORSHIP, ie COUGH gRACIE, COUGH DIVA ASHLEY, JUST REAL HARD WORK, TALENT, AND SKILL.

She EARNED every point tonight. Haters can pout all they want.

Huge Congratulations to Bradie Tennell!!!! Good luck at Olympics, you wonderful lady!

Do any of you who have commented on the last to or three pages figure skate? From what I saw, Ashley was over marked in the PCS marks in her FS. She should have been marked lower than Starr. Starr was absolutely clean and had good jumps. Starr was cleaner than Karen Chen in the FS and should have been 4th overall.

No Starr was very promising, but still skates like a junior lady.

Wow...that's a little rough don't you think? She said she wants to start a come back...and who knows? Maybe she could do triples again look at Polina getting at least some triples back. God that's just harsh.

She is a white girl attempting to throw shade on twitter. Weak shade without looking at her own self in the mirror. It is only harsh when she is genuinely trying. And in this case, she just wants to run her mouth.

Roca/Sur skated for America 😏.

Perhaps you are thinking of Rahkamo/Kokko, who were actually competitive, finishing 4th in Lillehammer, and 2nd at the 95 world’s.

Hey, we sucked at ice dance in the nineties! They were doing us a favor, going and getting 10th
They helped set the stage for Belbin/Agosto, then Davis and White. A foundation is needed to produce a champion.

Benoit Richaud who did her LP is a top notch choreographer. So I don't want to hear anything about her not having a good choreographer, then again it's not the choreographers problem when the skater isn't musical or good with said choreography, she's a jumper. That's about it.

Thank you!
And while I suppose they could package her a little better, you cannot buy charisma. And her in/pe is really bad for someone who is almost 20, so all the talk of there's time for progress is really puzzling me.
