I have to agree to an extent. If there weren't so many contenders for the three spots, I wouldn't have any problems with it at all. She certainly is a great and consistent skater, but ultimately she is unproven outside of the States, and with such comparatively weaker skating skills and PCs already, that really does concern me. If she had had even had two GP placements and hadn't made it to the GPF but still done well, I would feel worlds more confident in her abilities at the Games. Right now, the only skater I can actually feel 99% confident about putting in the best showing there is Mirai, and after her I would say Karen, Ashley, and Bradie could all potentially be great, or could potentially crash and burn. Bradie is just such an unknown outside the US at the end of it.

Why Mirai? Internationally, judges prefer Ashley, and up until this single competition, Mirai has been unable to compete under pressure. I'm not confident about anyone other than Bradie - everyone else is capable of meltdowns.

Tbh i think Ashley should have been 3rd. Karen PCS is quite inflated (2 point SP and 4 point FS) when she didnt deliver her tech. Yes Bradie is inflated too but atleast she is clean in TES.
On the other side who USFS will send to JWC? Starr for sure and hopefully Ting Cui

I don't think its US judges learning from how ISU judges judge as much as their wanting to reward a skater who can do all her elements clean with ease after experiencing so much inconsistency over the last 10 years. Their just ultra thrilled to have a skater who stands on her feet and rotates everything and who could blame them

I do feel bad for Ashley. If this were 2016, things might have turned out differently. Or maybe if she had competed Lala Land during the season instead of waiting till the last minute. I like that so much better than MR. But she's got a World silver medal, plus Oly team bronze, and she's already had the Oly experience. World/Oly medal is much tougher for US ladies now, considering the strength of the Russian and Japanese ladies. Ashley is a very savvy woman, she'll be fine. I predict a commentary duo with her and Adam in the not too distant future.

I think Ashley and Karen should go to 4cc and whoever wins goes to the Olympics. Both, were underwhelming here and have been all season.Karen gets called for UR all the time in international competitions. She needs to fix it. Ashley who was solid in practice all week managed to pop jumps. She needs to show she has the confidence needed for the Olympics. It would be a good motivator for both

Off-topic(?) but I just watched Starr and that was great! I was really impressed to hear that she did the beginning vocals all by herself! Her singing is wonderful and it's nice to see that she wasn't afraid to actually put it in her program. I hope to see more of her in the future!

Yeah...that's totally not happening, but can we just take a moment to appreciate how inspired Ashley's costume was? It reminded me of Emma Stone's Golden Globes outfit, but flying across the ice just made it more amazing.
