2018 US Championships Sr. Ladies FS

Maybe the judges were just judging what they saw. If I were a judge, I would've gave here 60 for PCS and she would have dropped down to 6 the place. Ashley needs to expand her jumping abilities. Under rotated, popped and stepped out jumps need to be fixed if Ashley wants to make a run for 2022. I can't see the USFSA putting Ashley on the Olympic team this time around. Before last Olympics Ashley was a little cleaner and had a much better GP season.

This same argument applies to every US lady with exception of Bradie Tennell and perhaps, Star Andrews. Karen and Mirai are also chronic under-rotators /poppers they get called (fairly) even more than Ashley in international competition. So, all of them should get be getting super low PCS but that that is not how PCS works it is about performance. The USAFS should send a message to all of them through fair calls on jumps (they did not call several of Mirai's under-rotations here) and accurate TES. PCS is a separate category.

I really DO hope Ashley gets her swan song though and she accepts it gracefully whether it be at 4CC or Worlds

I fail to see the humor. Yes, Karen got 4th place at worlds last year, and won Nationals. Karen also followed that up with bad placements on the Grand Prix this year.

You’re telling me that NBC isn’t screaming at USFSA to send the 3 time national champion, multiple Grand Prix Final medalist, and the last US lady to win a world medal since Kimmie Meissner and Sasha Cohen, only a year before Karen’s 4th place, and routinely gets some of the highest PCS scores in the quad, over someone who only finished 2 points ahead, with scoring that would never hold up internationally? And USFSA won’t listen?

Now THAT is funny.

So you think NBC can and should choose the Olympic team? Most (all) of the "factors" you're citing aren't part of the official selection criteria. What happened 10, 4 or even 2 years ago isn't part of the official criteria.

I think USFS put Ashley on the team last time because USFS/NBC had made her the public face of the games, in advance of the selection. I think they've been more careful this time, in all disciplines, by publicizing multiple athletes.

Can we stop with the name calling and insults towards everyone including skaters and fellow GS posters? It’s absolutely pathetic and it gives skating fans a horrible reputation.

I think she makes really good points. Her PCS were much lower here than she would score internationally. The fact that she got 68 PCS on home ice and below 33 PCS was outrageous - she was less clean at Skate America and the international judges gave her 33.68 PCS in her SP.

In Skate Canada, her FS with way more errors got 67.50, and here she's cleaner, skates a fresh, better program, and gets 68.00 (less PCS than Tennell and just slightly higher than Mirai's emotionally empty - albeit technically awesome - program?!). PLEASE. :rolleye:

In a Nationals environment, she (and everyone) should be getting at least their international scores for the same or better performances... and usually they get much higher (as we saw with Karen and Bradie and Mirai). I would be, to use her words, "furious". And she is acknowledging that she has technical issues and they should be called, but it's so painfully obvious the judges screwed her on PCS in both segments, costing her the bronze.

NBC doesn’t choose the athletes who make the Olympic team, no, but they can most certainly place Figure skating in not so prime airtime, if they wish.

For those of you who want to escape the mess in this thread or want to watch something fresh, Korean Nationals is also going on right now. :)

I think Ashley was definitely underscored in components and that they had a clear motive to send Karen over her from the start. But honestly, I agree with this initiative. Karen has been at her best more recently than Ashley (we cannot argue that Ashley is the same skater she was in Boston 2016). Ashley hasn't seemed to have her head in the game as much as she did in seasons past: she needed a lights out performance tonight and she didn't give it. Despite all her underrotations tonight, Karen has been showing a fight and drive that Ashley hasn't really had this season.
Though I will say that La La Land was very light and she really seemed to enjoy herself, even if the program felt somewhat empty.

Whatever dude. But calling people who don't agree with you Haters is not the best strategy for getting them to change their opinion.

I'd love to see Bradie Tennell turn into a world class performer. Frankly we could use as many first class performers as we can get.

The rest of your post is simply ad hominem. I think you need to learn not to personalize things.

You need to practice what you spout. Claiming someone is racist because they said a white girl is attempting to throw shade is an ad hominem attack. Nothing is racist about that except in your strange mind.

I'm not trying to get them to change their opinion, but I've come across so many bad comments on bradie...

i apologize for bringing up past remarks, I should n't have done it, and I don't care if I get another infraction, lol but why can't you just learn to be cool? I don't know what I said to offend you, seriously.

Sealing her fate IMO.

Yeah... Remember what happened when Pechalat and Bourzat (rightfully, imo) called out the inflation of I/K at the Olympics?
They lost what should have been their World title by 0.06.....

I am now worried. Really worried.

You know what, GOOD FOR HER! I am so proud of her for standing up for herself and not taking it. She was absolutely correct, she knows she left points on the table for her TES, but both PCS scores were marked lower than deserved, and if she would have been marked appropriately, she would be solidly in 3rd place with an over 200 mark.

Not really.
If she thinks she has been treated unfairly she keeps quiet in public and she tries to get the ball going in private. This won't help her. There is an added problem of 2014 that many of us remember and that is a potential PR nightmare. The Federation will not put itself in a bind where that can be dredged up again just like that. Wrong move this.

Not convinced that Ashley should go to the Olympics but that dress certainly should. Love, love that dress!

You're forgetting Ashley GPF bronze in 2014. That's what put her on the team.

As for this year, Ashley's the only US lady skater I've seen in any ads. But I do not expect USFS to put her on the team.
