2018 US Championships Sr. Ladies FS

Lol, what a gross sense of entitlement there from Ashley Wagner. You did two subpar programs and didn't rotate your jumps. Mirai, Bradie and Karen for the Olympics!

Because Karen did?! She got 5 tech calls... on home ice... during Nationals. And arguably could have been called for her series too.

I'm cool with Mirai/Bradie/Karen at the Olympics, but Ashley was royally screwed on her components here.

What I would hope is that USFS does what Japan does and send a different team to Worlds- send Karen to the Olympics and Ashley to Worlds- Ashley would honestly have a better shot at getting close to the Podium at a post Olympic Worlds anyways (as many top skaters don't go) and it would give her more time to work on her new LP. I think that would be a good way to reward a seasoned competitor without being unfair to the top 3 at nationals.

BONUS: Ashley's dress was beautiful. Mirai made me cry.

Also- it's just figure skating people. Wasting time hating skaters or hating posters does nothing- and none of them actually care about your anger or disdain. Hating a figure skater or random poster does nothing but poison yourself.

NBC doesn’t choose the athletes who make the Olympic team, no, but they can most certainly place Figure skating in not so prime airtime, if they wish.

All of the GP was in the afternoon. They get crap TV spots for everything aside from SA and nationals.

The way Ashley made those comments (in all fairness I do somewhat agree with her) I think she's just confirming the fact that she's basically saying this is her last season...I've had a similar experience (not in figure skating) with that where I knew it was my last chance and I knew nothing was gonna happen and I previously kept my thoughts out but once it happened and I knew my chance was over I was finally honest with everyone and everything...so I feel like she's basically confirming our thoughts it will be her last season with these comments (even though she did do the same thing in Sochi essentially)

Ashley has always gotten higher PC scores from the international judges; I don't know why our judges always gave her lower scores.

Ashley is always treated badly at home. Even in Boston, they judged her fairly only because Gracie fell, but otherwise, her SP was also underscored.
In other countries, like Russia, they intentionally forgive URs and pull the components to maximum at home, so then at international competitions their skaters could get higher scores. Ashley, however, gets lower score at home than anywhere else, and because she gets URs, and edge calls at home, of course, then they mark it there internationally too.

I have no idea how Karen was higher than Ashley at this competition overall, and in either program.

I'm not trying to get them to change their opinion, but I've come across so many bad comments on bradie...

i apologize for bringing up past remarks, I should n't have done it, and I don't care if I get another infraction, lol but why can't you just learn to be cool? I don't know what I said to offend you, seriously.

My response to your original post was not in any way, shape or form personal. I was simply saying I did not agree and posting why I didn't agree. To be honest, I didn't even look at your name on the original post when I replied to it. I simply am bored to tears with people calling other people with different opinions "haters."

Not really.
If she thinks she has been treated unfairly she keeps quiet in public and she tries to get the ball going in private. This won't help her. There is an added problem of 2014 that many of us remember and that is a potential PR nightmare. The Federation will not put itself in a bind where that can be dredged up again just like that. Wrong move this.

If she does or doesn’t go, she won’t change who she is, we know this. However, her stating this on the air may open the eyes of outside forces, like NBC or public sponsors. who may put PR pressure to take her.

If she does it the private way, USFSA can just say “we’ll take it under advisement” and do what they wanted to anyways, and after the fact, if Ashley puts up a fuss then, put out a bland public statement thanking Ashley for her long contributions to figure skating, but they are going in a different direction.

Didn't say that Karen rotated her jumps. Shrug.

You want to say she's throwing shade, fine. But you are the one who brought HER race into it. What would it matter if she were plaid? Shade is still shade no matter what color of the person it comes from. But by highlighting her color, you are playing a race card. And it's unnecessary.

I agree with you, WeakAnkles, and I reported this poster. Hope it makes a difference. Bringing race into a conversation that has nothing to do with race is irresponsible.

I'm fine with the placement and I still I applaud Wagner for calling out judges for anomalous scoring. Actual athletes trash refs all the time. I mean, many competitive snowboarders and ski jumps has complained publicly about judging and those sports are judged *magnitudes* more fairly and consistently. I'm tired of this conspiracy to keep the judging unquestionable by commentators, skaters, coaches, choreographers all for ad revenue which is vanishing anyway precisely because the ISU and national federations have designed a trash scoring system and maintains a judge selection mechanism that actual empirical research has shown promotes bias and vote-trading.

What anomalous judging? Wagner has benefited from super high PCS in the past, one could argue that she was overscored?? And she didn't get potentially as many UR calls in the long as she should have

It was clear after the short program who they wanted to send. Ashley doesn't stand a chance. Maybe it she had finished her program at Skate America they would have thrown some PCS her way at Nationals...who knows.

Ashley beat Karen in the FS.

I can see how Karen has the top PCS -- her programs are exquisite and she is lovely to watch. But Ashley's PCS in comparison to her usual international PCS scores (and especially in comparison to Mirai and Bradie) were a joke.

The Olympics are a completely different animal, though. In the Olympics, Skating gets Prime Time Coverage. That may change a bit due to the time changes though, but Figure Skating is an Olympic Money maker

LOL pretty funny. How about Lu Chen? Jimmy Ma and Emmy Ma?

It really depends on the Chinese character that forms the Family name.

Ma is horse, so if both Jimmy's Ma and Emmy's Ma are character for horse, then possibly their ancestors also came from the same village.

I am not sure if Lu Chen's family is Lu or Chen.
