2018 US Championships Sr. Ladies FS

I believe in the course of our discussion that there were multiple occurrences that I could have reported, but I don’t know how to report people 😂😂.

When you look at the post, in the lower left-hand side of the bottom border there are two "things"; one says Send PM and one is a triangle with an exclamation point in it. Click on the triangle, and a screen will come up where you can enter why you think the post is an infraction.

I usually just enter a few words, like "spam" or "personal / insulting / argumentative". I think of it as calling the mods attention to the post, and letting them read the post and use their own judgment about it.

I'm honestly in favor of a skate-off between Karen and Ashley at 4CCs for the third spot because I think there were too many confounding factors with how their scoring went here (it wasn't awful but it was a little odd). Everyone is posting about the discrepencies between PCS scores internationally vs here, I wonder if Karen got a bit of a home-town hero boost, both have made recent program switches, and I don't think either is head and shoulders above the other right now. USFSA's preference/bitterness/whatever needs to be taken out of the picture and just let them skate in front of international judges and let that tell the difference between them.

If USFSA decides to go with the podium I'm down with that but if they really don't know how to split them, make them duke it out again. Let Karen get healthy and give Ashley more time with La La Land (Which honestly I don't have a lot of pity for her in the "it's only a month old" excuse. If she had done what she did in 2014 and what Karen did this year and started with the new program and then switched back cause it wasn't working I'd understand.)

Why did you quote my post although I haven't said a single thing about Ashley in the specific post in response to jenaj?

Unless your post is related to Polina and Bradie or Gracie, I don't find the reason from your post.

My sincerest apologies.

I was intending to quote/reply to another post, and I have absolutely no idea how I could have hit your post instead.

I'm so sorry for the error.

She should have looked salty when she was sent to the O's instead of Mirai! She is always running her mouth about something which is why I don't care for her. She has a funky atitude.

She did deserve that spot. She was by far the best US lady for the previous two years. Just look at her results compared to the rest of the field. I think the real question at the time was whether they would send Polina or Mirai. I personally would have preferred Mirai. Ashley is just honest which many people don't appreciate but I do.

Frankly, I don't care about gymnastics -- if they want to run their athletes bodies into the ground before they graduate high school, and toss them aside for the newest shiny prepubescent girl, that's their choice.

I want figure skating to be a sport in which athletes can have a career. They can give us years and years of performances and memories. I want a sport of Michelle Kwans, not Tara Lipinskis.

You have to be 16 before you compete in a world championships or Olympics in gymnastics. That change was made several years ago, so the gymnasts tend to be older now. There are many 20 year olds competing. Hey, even look at Oksana Chusovitina (in her 40s) who has been competing since the early 90s!

Except gymnastics isn't like that at all. Many of the Russians have been around for years. USA just had their first multi-Olympians since 2000 in Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas. The average age of women gymnast Olympians has been going steadily up since 2000.

And look, you've admitted that you don't care about gymnastics, so stop speaking about it like you're an expert. You're not, quite frankly.

This, really.

Agree with this.

Since the early 90s, I believe there have only been two proven age falsifications, one for North Korea and one for China. Beijing 2008 had another suspicious one. You are speaking about the 2000 Sydney American team, yes.

Aly was the oldest of the team at 22, and the youngest was Laurie Hernandez at 16. Outside of Laurie, the next youngest were Simone and Madison Kocian at 19.

I'm not saying 20 years and 3 months is old, but it's older than 16 by a considerable amount! There are elite gymnasts competing at the Olympics in their 30s and Oksana Chusovitina is 42 and still going strong, having been to seven Olympic Games.

Oh right, Sydney. I also remember that in Sydney, there were recent new age restrictions that actually barred under-16ers. That had a lot to do with the increase the ages of gymnasts, at least the ones with legitimate birth certificates. I also remember at the time a lot of boohoos about young talented athletes not being age eligible, similar to 2006 Mao Asada.

Well my point is, it's definitely good for this sport, figure skating, to encourage longevity, rather than to encourage peaking at a young age and then retiring.

I feel like most people are only suggesting this "skate-off" idea in order to give Wagner another chance to win. If Wagner had eked out that bronze here, I can't imagine everyone would want to send her off to 4CC to prove her Olympic worth, and Wagner herself wouldn't be thrilled in that hypothetical scenario, either.

Karen's PCS have not improved dramatically since being crowned US Champion last year. USA #1 doesn't mean that much. However, I think Bradie's PCS will improve because internationally skaters like Alina Zagitova (technically great, artistically ???) get good PCS because they are reliable and rotate jumps. Bradie does that.

Karen PCs went from 59 at NHK to 64 at WC. The top US lady always gets a boost.

Truth!!!

She’d be furious!!

I agree. It's not just choosing between Ashley and Karen. They have to consider that the judging of this event (the most important event in terms of their selection) was super fishy. I just can't imagine that they can overlook this.

But she will have a chance to put up or shut up on her PCS, honestly. She won’t be thrilled, but she will jump at the Chance.

Exactly. The first time in 18 years, the current gymnastics Olympic team contained members from the previous Olympic team.

Such longevity

Of course she wouldn't but neither deserves to go at this point. 4cc skate off would make them both improve. If Karen truly is better (as she may well be-no opinion) she can prove it in international competition. It would force her to improve her technical problems because she has a lot. Wish Wakaba Higuchi was going instead.
