2018 US Championships Sr. Ladies FS

Urgh. Ashley continues to be such a sore loser! Girl your ass is 26. Grow up already! You were a brat back in 2010 when you didn’t get the Olympic spot and continue to be one. They better go with Chen for that third spot!!

I completely agree with you. We are definitely in the minority but Ashley’s program, in my opinion, did not have the transitions that Mariah’s did. Mariah also looked much more confident and faster across the ice (I wasn’t there so I don’t know about the fastness for sure).

If Ashley is picked over Karen they need to bring the torches and pitchforks to the door of the USFSA. Ashley got one break 4 years ago and she's not the same skater and is regressing. Time for the new and to do that you have to sometimes set the old aside.

Oi...

From the 2008 team: Chellsie Memmel was 20 and simply missed making the 2004 Olympic team after doing quite well in 2003 Worlds. Alicia Sacramone was also 20 and missed making the 2004 Olympic team.

From the 2004 team: Mohini Bhardwaj was 25 and had previously gone to 1997 Worlds and competed quite well in NCAA. Annia Hatch was 26 but previously competed for Cuba in 1993 at Worlds. She could not compete other times, even though she qualified (to the 1996 Olympics for example) because of a lack of funding.

Your comments are entirely baseless and quite frankly ignorant.

Not important, but Mohini also competed at the 2001 worlds, and Annia won a Vault Bronze at the 1996 worlds in San Juan, Puerto Rico, under her maiden name, Annia Portuondo, representing Cuba.

I had that same impression as well! Mariah looked pretty good, much better than her SP except for the 2A.

Well said!!!

Exactly. The first time in 18 years, the current gymnastics Olympic team contained members from the previous Olympic team.

Such longevity

You mean 16 years. 2000 has Dominic Dawes who went to three different Olympics. In 1996 I think three ladies had also been in Barcelona. I have to check. 1996 was truly one of the best years ever for ladies gymnastics.

Oh okay, new statement

It took 18 years for any Olympians to last 4 years longer to go to the next Olympics, but Martha and Bela maybe perhaps could have almost made it happen sooner if they felt like it

So basically, a cumulative point total for the whole competitive skating season? Strictly mathematical? It used to be the top 2 or 3 finishes at Nationals in the old days, but the way the IOC more strictly doles out Olympic slots these days to countries, it's made the whole trip to the Olympics thing an even tougher illusive prize to win, IMHO.

Yep. Check here (it's in German, but you will get what it's all about). I think this is by far the fairest. Of course, with the changing judges panels, it's always difficult to compare points, but as they used multiple results, it's very fair IMHO: https://www.eislauf-union.de/files/users/bettgenhaeuser/Protokoll-OWS-QualiStand16.12.2017.pdf

I don't understand the italicized, but I understand the bolded even less. Leave gymnastics to the experts.

Tara talking about Mirai during her SP, saying she is thinking about that triple axel right now as she is spinning. No, Mirai is busy counting revolutions - something Tara did not need to worry about as much.

Nothing against Tara but she was not a COP skater. She did the triple loop triple loop but she lacked amplitude, speed, power and maybe rotation sometimes. Her jumps were puny even Michelle the great argualy was not a COP skater. Her jumps lacked amplitude though I think both would get marks for consistency and repu tation or GOE's based on that.

Such drama yet again Karen Chen and Ashley Wagner - I can hear some people say - easy solution neither goes and give it to Japan lol. Won't happen. i really don't know what to say or who to send. These ladies were underwhelming. The judging rather odd throughout both sp and lp and inflation, gifting was very evident so people stop picking on Russia because generous markings or oversights (or both) was plenty evident. I do think the USFA /USA is pushing Bradie - let's see what the world stage says. Good for her in winning the title. I am disappointed in Ashley, I think she needed to do a Rippon - no not the arm up but have that drive and desire and leaving it on the ice. I am not sure La La Land was all that. She gambled and yes, the judging was suspect but in the end what a mess. Bradie and Mirai earne dthere spots now what???? Mirai deep down must be thanking h er lucky stars -this could have been 2014 all over.

As for the body of work the fact Karen was fourth last year at worlds might end Ashley's dream. Ashley and Karen won't sleep tonite. Meanwhile there are some people partying at a Japanese restaurant (Mirai's parents restaurant).

Ashley's international PCS were always inflated  Karen skates much faster than Ashley. Ashley's PCS are based on reputation and "selling" the program.

So are Evgenia's and even moreso Alina's. But I don't see the Russian judges dropping the ball on them at nationals relative to other skaters....

In any case, most of the judges at nats are not ISU certified and will never be, and do not have a basic understanding of ISU judging standards. If you have a problem with Ashley's international scores (which is a valid opinion, mind you) that is an issue with the official COP ISU scoring system and ISU protocol regarding judges. But that does not mean the uncertified US judges can create their own PCS scoring standards (disregarding ISU protocol) and give skaters scores based on their own whimsical preferences, even if they think they have their merits. Again, I am no certified judge but my analysis of the PCS today is Ashley 69 Bradie 65 Mirai 64 Karen 62. This happens to be in line with ISU scores.

Unless the juniors have massive scores like Gracie did, they often pick from seniors. I personally think it’s stupid to send someone that hasn’t competed as junior in years to JW, as opposed to someone that is a junior and competed internaationally as a junior when they have practically the SAME score!

Ting should go! Amber only has a slightly higher score because of the Choreographical sequence, which isn’t included in a junior program!

I agree. I would love to see Ting at JW! Her free was incredible and to come back from 11th to podium!! She really impressed me and I think she could outscore Amber at JW.

Omg...the comments are brutal about Ashley on there and people have gone on to ripping on the whole sport based on this type of drama. What a shame really :palmf:

Best comment was “. Ugh....when does skiing start”

:dumb:

Exactly haha.

Bela had no role in USA Gymnastics after 2000, it was all Marta.

Alicia Sacramone in 2012, not likely, but possible. Nastia was a shell of her old self, and Chellsie had fallen out of favor with USA Gymnastics. Even if she was back to form, her strengths weren’t strong enough to take her on a 5 person Olympic team.
