2018 Olympic Figure Skating Ladies FS

I heard Zhenya’s going to work towards 2022 actually! Not sure if it’s going to work out (with the crazy force of juniors incoming in Russia) but I wish all the best of luck to her. I hope we can keep seeing her skate for the years to come and not disappear out of the scene

Yeah, too bad more people were annoyed by the miming. Shocking. It's almost like they don't agree with you.

Well Medvedeva has tone down the miming if you'd care to notice. Truth be told its not a negative. Its more her style. But of course being a popular criticism I suppose she has to lessen it a bit. Even without that she can still fill her program competently. Her programs have always been one giant step sequence interperse with jumps. It just does not feel like she is just trying to look pretty and elegant and speed skating from one jump to another. That's what amazes me about her.

You know, if you took out the jabs at other skaters, I'd actually agree with you.

Yes, Med improved a little. Her personal style isn't artistic, IMO.

Why is the ladies the biggest gold? And look at the overall medal count. Canada: 4 (team, dance, ladies, pairs; two golds, two bronze). Russia: 2 (team, ladies; one gold, one silver). Canada wins.

Don’t be silly, Russia has NO medals, just some athletes from their country.

Sigh.

Yet another crime against figure skating, called Alina Zagitova's PCS. Crime.

What a nonsense of a competition. It was preordained she had to win, win she did. That PCS .... way to completely, completely destroy the meaning of one mark. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they make her the scapegoat now for a lot of the incoming changes. Not that that'll change a thing, in some ways, they have the potential to just make it all worse. But she has her OGM so she better rake it now if she has any brains.

I also laugh at all of those who think Alina is somehow ill-done by Eteri. She made her into an OGM, such as she is. If anyone should leave, it is Medvedeva, not that she will. But since she's staying in skating, at least she'd get better programs and someone could work with her to improve the jumps a bit.

Oh well. Don't think I'll watch ladies any time soon, this skipping was justified and probably saved me a lot of nerves. Individual videos in this day and age are a blessing.

Mao Asada isn't an OGM but Alina Zagitova is. I still cannot. Cannot. No.

Well, it's better than Med being an OGM and never having landed a clean lutz in her life. (+at least one UR and super awk choreography). That would've been even worse.

Why? She would just be following in the tradition of other ladies OGM winners--Tara and Sarah.

Osmond's PCS scoring was actually reflective of what she did on the ice, she was lowest scored on TR and so she should have as she has zero TR in her programme. I would say 9+ in TR is very generous. I would have given her 7 at best. Not to diminish her other strengths and still the overall score is correct.

I don't count medals. It's about prestige. Men closer and have same hype

i agree with the following posts.

Results if judging were accurate

1. Evgenia
2. Kaetlyn
3. Satoko
4. Alina
5. Kostner or Kaori with the former having the edge on PCS and the latter TES.

I'm sorry, but I think the wrong person won. Zagitova has beautiful jumps and spins. Sometimes she even times the jumps to the beat of the music. But I find her skating pretty boring and sloppy in the first half of that program- pageant poses, unfinished arms and positions, little relation to or engagement with the music. And the second half is a jump drill. If you turned the music off for that program, my impression of Zagitova's program would be much different. Zagitova skated well tonight. She worked the system. But giving her 9.29 for composition; 9.46 for interpretation; and 9.61 for performance execution seems criminal.

Medvedeva is musical and much more interesting. She has a sense of what's playing and what she's trying to convey to the audience. The choreography is trying to communicate things about the story- it's not just there to waste time until the jump drill comes/ fill the space so that she can backload. Evgenia's jumps are not as good as Zagitova's. But her spins are, IMO, about equal to Zagitova's, and her jumps were clean tonight (minus the 3Z "should have been e") tonight. I think Medvedeva deserved gold.

Osmond was also wonderful. She really pulled it out when it counted. The best free skate of her life couldn't have come at a better time. This was a real performance. It was uncluttered and lyrical and interesting. She had all the technical goods (although she doesn't backload and she doesn't get Medvedeva-level GOEs). Deserving bronze medalist. It's a shame that things are going in the direction they're going, because Osmond really should be up there competing with the Russians when she skates like this.

Satoko was also great. She had such detail in her choreography and interpretation. I prefer her "Planets" program to this one, but she performed as best as she could. The jumps are always questionable/ not my cup of tea, but she did them to the best of her ability tonight.

I just feel sad about the order of the podium. The new system seems to have everything out of whack, and now the gold medal seems to go to the person who is most adept and maximizing her points. And the points don't, IMO, reflect the quality of the programs in much other than jumps and spins. It's too bad.

evgenia's tech is very problematic, indeed, but pcs-wise... somebody said they'd give her 5.6 for artistry if we still had the old system.... what? i'd give her 6.0 and all the 10s this time, she skated her heart out.

alina's lovely jumps and spins warrant the highest tes of all the ladies but... pcs (and it's not her fault, she didn't choreograph this silly dud of a program and her coaches haven't taught her proper bladework and haven't bothered to fix her terrible posture issues... look at kaetlyn or satoko's back and then alina's... alina's coaches are doing her SUCH a disservice)... cannot legitimately be anywhere over 7.0. 8.0 in PE maybe because of her youthful spark.

so i feel the wrong person won and i do think evgenia is much more of an artist now than people are willing to give her credit for... she used to be meh compared to skaters with some gravitas and earnestness like anna p. but she is compelling now. gutted for satoko finishing off the podium, too, she totally belonged there...

HOWEVER... i feel very bad for alina because everyone around her including her coaches and all her compatriots act like she stole someone else's gold. she didn't, it's on the judges, not her, she is a blameless child and it's terrible she has to put up with eteri who's seething with cold hatred and cannot be arsed to even pretend otherwise. alina doesn't dare to be happy because to everyone around her that'd be a crime. it's awful. eteri is being unprofessional and should just go away. can't stand her guts.
