But if you look at it in a different way, we have new faces on the podium that totally deserved their place and be recognized for the work they put out there. They shined when others couldn't.
Carolina was never a consistent free skate skater so no surprise there. Actually, it would be more of a surprise if she had been flawless or near flawless.
And this is a Worlds after the Olys. Everyone is exhausted.

This is exactly why I'm so happy that there was a Worlds after the Olympics. There is a thread about this on the Edge and I hoped this would be Wakaba's chance to medal, and she did! I didn't have much hope after the SP, but she got a silver.

Figure Skating is such a competitive sport with only a few major medals to grab each year. This unlike some sports where people can medal in different distances etc.

This World Championships gave deserving ladies a chance to medal. Kaetlyn is now a world champion and Wakaba a worlds medalist. Without this, Wakaba would have been the athlete who barely missed the Olympic spot this season.

And I'm sorry for Alina, who did so well this year, but I think she will only be stronger from this. Everybody loses sometimes, and she must have been tired. But loved how she still waved at the audience during the K&C; this girl has class.

My there are such kind people on this board. This girl had just become world champion. You could not fault her skating so you had to attack her grammar. Could her slip in grammar have been from the excitement of the moment. She herself said she was fighting to get on the podium and to win gold was a dream come true. Why cannot people let her have her moment without these kind of remarks. Yes it was very sad to see some of the skaters that just do not make the mistakes they made to-night But others say ice is slippery and sometimes even the best pay the price.

Ah that's just because you didn't pay much attention to all the vitriol against "Russian robots" and "evil Eteri" so you might as well call this forum anti-Russian. More insult can only be expected from politicians but that's part of their job

Congrats to Kaetlyn, Wakaba and Satoko, big hugs to ALL ladies there, and a special biiiiiig hug to Alina - you fought 'till the end like a samurai. Russia's with you and will be.

I've seen Evgenia attacked in threads about JGP events this season. Once even in a thread about Junior Men.
So yeah, it seems like anyone who is succesful will get backlash from people who are upset that their favourite didn't win. I really don't understand why people feel the need to attack athletes like this, but there you go. Luckily, most people don't do this.

Maria Sotskova again saves the three spots for Russia. Last year it was the same as Pogorilaya failed. And before that in junior worlds the same. If she had not skated as well as she did Russia would have lost the third spot. Nice done Maria.

What a surprise this competition was! I'm happy for Osmond and Higuchi. I hope Alina will have a new FP next season, easier to forget these mistakes that way.

Let's see here. While yes, injuries are an issue right now, these spots are for next year when ostensibly injured girls could come back. Anna Pogorilaya is scheduled to be in shows in Japan, so I can only imagine she's feeling better. Not sure what's up with Tsurskaya. Overall though, Russia has 5 girls who are not retired beyond Alina and Zhenya who have PBs over 200, three of which scored over 200 this year. That's better than all current women in the US have ever scored save for Bradie Tennel (assuming that Ashley Wagner has retired, which seems likely). It's not like it's Alina and Zhenya and then dropping off to a bunch of girls who can't crack 200, it's those two and then a bunch of other women who have a host of international medals and hunger to prove themselves. They are definitely lucky to have three spots, especially since the incredible talent in Russia means that those spots won't be wasted.

Those 3 spots wont be wasted. The injuries are a factor. Sad for those injured and the three Russian girls that struggled yesterday.

I think it is a good thing that we have the third spot. It will give another up and coming skater a chance to perform on the world stage. I think each performance in front of international judges helps a skater to progress. Even if that skater will not ever be on the podium for them to just qualify for world`s is a plus for them and an accomplishment they can be proud of.

Oh yeah, it's obviously nice to have. It's just not like we have the depth of the Russian or Japanese teams.

Also my big congrats go to Loena Hendrickx for her very high placemement - 9th. Is it the best place ever for any lady representing Belgium? I think it is.

Also almost without any help from her federation, it's a result of her tenacity and love for the sport. And crowdfunding too IIRC.

FYI, I dont agree with the poster's decision to call Kaetlyn out for her grammar. I thought it was a low blow to a woman who exuded class and a true competitor's spirit. Hence my decision to call out the poster's spelling mistake of grammar. Like how are you going to do that and then follow it up with "grammer" ?!

You really don't seem to get it. The scores the skaters deserved at this competition has nothing to do with the scores skaters got in 2010. Kaetlyn deserved 133 for the LP exactly based upon the current rules. The judges overscoring people has nothing to do with the scores the skaters should be receiving. The overscoring is their fault and it should be corrected. The scores I gave are 100% justifiable and if I were in a judges' meeting, my scores would be far more reasoned, explainable, and given supporting evidence than what is the current state of affair with the judges, who are quite clueless and frequently unable to give credible arguments for their scores. But since they all do it and since the ISU does not have good systems in place, these conversations don't really happen, it's instead just based upon general campaigning of the federations.

Wakaba deserved to win this competition and if she was a bigger name skater and if the judges did score the competition as such, virtually nobody would be blinking an eye. Everyone at this moment would just be talking about her amazing comeback and perfect performance that deserved the victory, like when Mao won 2014 Worlds.

Get over it........you couldn’t accept Canada’s Team Gold at the Olympics and now you can’t accept Kaetlyns Gold at Worlds. If if and ands were pots and pans, what would be do for thinkers. Let Canada enjoy their time in the spotlight. Everyone is talking about Kaetlyn’s comeback and her near perfect performance not Wakabas. Congratulation to Kaetlyn and also to Wakada.

After watching the men I have major respect for Kaetlyn. Looks like she handled the nerves and excitement of post Olympic worlds better than anyone else, except maybe S/M.

What surprise me the most is that judges didn't try to save Zagitova with PCS. I mean if her reputation was as solid as Kostner or Medvedeva, maybe they would still give her 75 PCS even with that disaster.

It was awful, and I don't understand how so many of the posters on this website can be happy about it. I don't like seeing so many falls period, and it just rubs me the wrong way when it seems like posters are happy that the objective favorites fell because their favorites ended up medaling because not everyone went clean. It wasn't a good event, and seeing new faces on the podium doesn't change that.

This works both ways..so many posters on this website are not happy because some skaters had so many falls. I am happy with the results because the girl that was on the podium and won Gold meaning Kaetlyn. Kaetlyn has been the joke of many posters on this site due to the fact that she never had a clean program and can’t stand on her two feet while skating, No one ever thought that she would do it, but did it when it counts. You can look at this both ways....Kaetlyn won because the rest fell or Katelyn won because she had the best skate. That’s what usually happens when someone wins is someone else falls....Yes it hurts to see fans belittle other skaters and put them down....this works both ways...

But wouldn't you rather have a competition where everyone skates cleanly, and may the best skater win? Maybe it's because I never belittle any skater because of their mistakes why I don't tolerate when others do. I don't say anything at all. I learned that if you don't have something nice to say, you shouldn't say it at all. I know it's a blurred line because criticism is a part of figure skating and fans want skaters to be the best they can be, but it's all about balance.
