Im surprised that so many people here seem to think that Evgenia is a terrible jumper. Sure this season her jumps were more labored and her toe jumps are on the average side but... come on

Of course, you are absolutely right. But unfortunately Evgenia was taught skating and jumping with the Tutberidze approach: flawed technique, but on strict diet so the triples can be rotated.

Ouch.

Didn’t he say that because he was cornered by the Korean press and Kim’s management? If these rumors are true, it will confirm what I long felt about Orser. He’s super ambitious and very strategic about everything. Given a different context, I’m almost certain he would have taken the opportunity to coach a top athlete like Mao.
I see this potential partnership benefiting him more than Evgenia, who has pretty much maxed her scores. Orser, on the other hand, has another champion skater in his camp. He has nothing to lose.
Orser isn’t taking anyone just because they’re champions. Med certainly has reached some agreement with him. Remember, Orser is the coach of 3 consecutive Olympic Golds. He isn’t that easy as people know Med is in difficult positions with all young ladies going after her. I don’t think much benefits of Orser getting Med under his wings. I guess she accepted his ideas of skating and that’s it.

BUT her techniques are indeed flawed. We want her to improve them so that she gets the GOE that she truly deserves.. Hope she can still fix them.

Oh I definitely want her to improve! Not saying she’s got perfect jumps, but to dismiss her as someone who’s a terrible jumper is quite wrong imho

It's both a mystery and persistent comedy - she literally has the medals to prove she has top, top jumping technique. Among the best of anyone in the ladies field right now, and by far the most consistent

Eh...he went through same deal with Yuzuru back when Yuzuru's move was announced. Everyone saying if Yuzuru didn't live up to potential it would be Orser's fault.

The moment Yuzuru reached TCC, he told Brian Orser that he wanted to learn the jumps. Brian Orser said no and asked him to learn the basic skating skills (because "with good skating skills, the jumps will follow"). Because Yuzu had to focus on the skating, he found it harder to focus on both the jumps and skating skills simultaneously. So in his first few years with Brian, Yuzu never managed to land the quad salchow consistently. As his skating skills improved gradually, the quad salchow stabilised, but it took him quite a long time to do that. It is likely that Zhenya will be taking a long time to get her jumps back after changing her techniques. If one day, she does a true lutz but falls, what will her fans say? Will they be disappointed at Brian Orser for causing Zhenya's fall?

Med’s edge jumps are fine. Loop and Sal ok. No need to fix. 2Axel a bit meh but she lands it most of the times. She can improve it a bit and doesn’t need to go for 3A anyway. Toe jumps she needs to fix the Lutz mostly. Overall her jumps have average size and ok ice coverage. It’s acceptable. She can improve.

*lol* This is better than any soap opera.

I had been doing other things today, when I just logged in to see this news. I read this thread without knowing it would be Orser, and it evolved like a drama to me:laugh:.
(am now off to read the rest of the thread)

just because the judges give Evgenia's flutz. +3 Goe or Kaetlyn's flutz +3Goe or shoma's flip +3 Goe or Nathan's 3axel +3 Goe doesn't prove anything. high scores, consistency or medals don't mean their technique is good.

on the other hand, Tuktamysheva' s technique is textbook and she needs no titles or scores to proof that.

Wow, I have to say I was hoping it would be Alina going to Orser, but obviously if Alina just won OGM under Eteri, she wouldn't leave. This is a big move by Zhenya, and I hope it will pay off. It's a risk, but it tells me Evgenia is still hungry for the OGM, and she knew she had to make a change to have a fighting chance in the next quad. I suspect Eteri probably knew Evgenia might leave after what happened at the Olympics. Given their close relationship, I hope they parted on good terms. I really really would love to see Wakaba train with Orser too, though now that Evgenia is there, I guess it may not happen for Wakaba.

It is easier to be consistent if your jumps are consistently prerotated and sometimes underrotated. Imagine you do half of the rotation on ice instead of in the air. You don't need to jump high and far since you can do some of the rotations on ice. A small jump is also easier to land than a big one with good height and huge ice coverage. This, apart from her hard work, explains why Zhenya's jumps are consistent.

So the biggest sister of the group now is Alina at a tender age of 16. Wellllll
And what now Alina may think just see almost everyday Trusova and Scherbakova training quads or the 3A of Kostornaia ?

Alina its the next. She can't leave now, as it is who represents Eteri at senior level and surely want to try to improve too, but then...

Agree about the toe jumps. She needs to fix both the flutz and blade take-off. Otherwise, she might just lose the GOE if the Russian Federation decides not to bother about her and judges decides not to ignore those flaws anymore. She is still young and she seems to be willing to learn. Good for her to change coach.

Loool if Evgenia’s jumps are small then what on earth are Satoko’s? Zhenya’s jumps are of average distance I would say. Her edge jumps are remarkable, her 3lo is probably the best in senior ladies. Her lutz is the obvious thing to fix. She only had prerotation issues on -3T combo. Let’s try to be objective!

I can’t wait to see what Brian will work on :)

It also surprises me and I find it quite absurd. Since if we remember the debut of Evgenia was praised in this forum for being a good jumper. All this mythology that Evgenia is technically terrible and other stories of fairies and goblins are said mainly by a hate stand that is already stable. In fact people register and only post the same as a rosary "flutz, prerrotation".:sarcasm:

------------------

Evgenia has many strengths in her jumps: Entry, excellent position in the air, stable landing and good use of free leg extension. I've never really seen her pre-rotate above 180, except this season when her jumps suffered from the injury and became little more laborious. The only takeoff problem she has is the edge of her lutz. Her 2A improved a lot, I remember that in Skate America she was >, and she worked a lot to improve the height and the takeoff.
Her Salchow and Loop are exquisite, her Flip is kite good (great takeoff, correct edge )and stable. Not to mention her difficult exits and entrances, and how she transits so fluidly between one element and another. stsq are so clear in the 11 turns and there are almost no basic crossovers, everything is clearly lv4 there.
She has a lot of base, and WITH A GOOD CHOREOGRAPHY , (like, Shae, jeff )they can make this stand out.
I remind you that Tracy Wilson herself once said that she felt Evgenia had a connection to the ice.

I hope that Evgenia receives the attention she needs that they can polish her already good skills. she also has a lot of grace and expression, so her PCs will not go down (since she has earned them, and she deserves them).

I just want a beautiful program for her, with a good character. Skyfall was my favorite show this season, and Evgenia managed to show us a tragic and memorable Anna Karenina, so I hope that Shae does something for her, where she can wear stsq, expression and fierceness.:drama:

I like how people who think Medvedeva has a "top, top" jumping technique haven't actually managed to reason why she's switching coaches if Eteri taught her that. Why move at all? Keep her top, top jumps with Eteri.
