Men - Free Program

Poor Jeff! I don't know why the silly guy went for a quad. Not necessary considering all the splatting before him. A clean performance would have assured a silver, or at least some medal. But there's always next year, and hopefully he'll be more trained then!

Congrats to the medallists. Sounds like Brian's win was a little disappointing, like he didn't go for many big elements and skated to hang on to his lead and not to demolish the competition. But a win is a win, and he's over the hump. Also good for Daisuke holding up over home-crowd pressure, and Stephane for making an incredible comeback and salvaging a medal - three years in a row on the podium!!! Who was the last skater to do that... I don't even think Plushenko did that?

For me the skater of the day is Thomas Verner. He jump from 9th to 4th.
Miskate of the day or the past two years goes to Oda. Please stick to your program.

What a surprise competition:

- Although Joubert won he was only 3rd in the freeskate
- WOW for Lambiel´s and Takahashi´s freeskates!!!
- Lysacek the best US skater and Weir only 10th in the freeskate, huh
- Oh my, I was so happy for Verner!!!!

I hope that for next season Lysacek has learned from a mistake and will not be skating the best performance of the season in the US Nationals. US Nationals is only a step to Worlds, which is the most important event of the season. Way too much hype about who is the US champion, LOL.

Congrats Brian Joubert 2007 World Champion

Daisuke Takahashi World Silver Medalist !!!!

Stephane Lambiel- 2 time world champion

WHen I watched Stephane Lambiel skate to his LP, it was just impossible to believe that he had once lost his "sacred fire" for skating. What a passionate and unbelievable skate. Mistakes and all, he really gave it his all. WTG Stephane! I'm so proud of you!

And I'm so happy for Daisuke too. This medal is long overdue.

Can anybody tell me if U.S. and Canada will still retain three spots next season?

First of fall Johnny came in 8th, second the US gets to keep three spots for men next year because the total of both Johnny and Evan = 13. But Canada will lose a spot and go down to two men.

- USA got the placements 5+8 = 13. I think that means 2 spots in next year´s worlds.

Canada got 6+13 = 19, which probably means only two places.

This Joubert win look not good - he is real loser.... How with this jumps he can take a lot of points? Daisuke and Tomash deserved medals - Takahashi - must win,
Poore Jeff... But his skating has really high quality

I think that Joubert deserved his win because of the lead in short programme. In my opinion though he should have been only 4th in the freeskate and Verner 3rd.

A. Yagudin was on podium 5 times

If total between a countrys two skaters is 13 then they get three spots, but yes Canada will lose a spot in the mens event and go down to two

Wow! That's impressive. Perhaps Stephane can match that? I'd really love to see him continue skating through Vancouver!

Thanks

everyone for the closest I'll get to live competition! Appreciate all the comments and hope to purchase tapes so I can watch myself someday.

Rosaleen, BIG THANKS for your hard work --

I expected Lambiel to come back strong in the long and he really didnt, I am very dissapointed to see he had several mistakes. He is my favorite skater but why cant he ever do a clean long program. :( Plus Joubert was off enough if he had done a totally clean long program he could have maybe even made up the 11 points to win. He landed his hardest jump for him to start then missed other jumps, very dissapointing.

You know, that performance wasn't clean, but it was SO MUCH MORE than being merely clean.
Actually, I would take "almost clean" but magical programs from Lambiel over a lot of other perfectly clean programs.
And if you are truly a fan, shouldn't you be happy that he acutally landed the 3axel after missing every single attemp in the practice? And mosf of the season, for that matter? I for one am so proud of him for the way he's redeemed himself and showed everybody that he's a real champion.
