Evgeni Plushenko

Hello fellow Plushy fans!

I come with a conundrum...

So I was browsing on Insta as you do and one of the stories my new favourite skater Yaroslav Paniot posted was an article on one of those Russian sports news sites and it had a photo of him and a photo of Plushy. I was immediately curious! What could it be about? Yaro hadn't linked it so off I went to take a look.

And er...it's not good. :( Apparently, Yaroslav idolised Plushy as a kid but then Plushy ignored him when they crossed paths at some sports camp and that ended that.

Now I feel like I'm in a really awkward spot since I set up Yaroslav's fanfest and the article was actually an interview with other interesting stuff in it (trust a news website to highlight that one part, the article is even entitled "I idolised Plushenko and then I met him" - and then for some bizarre reason they posted that bit of the article just by itself as an article all on its own...just in case you missed Plushy being a prima Dona who snubs adoring baby skaters or something? Your guess is as good as mine.) So I feel like...I should post it, because it's an interview, but I really don't want to! But if I don't and someone else does I'll look like a poor sport for not linking it :(

You've put me in a really hard spot, Yaro! :(

What do you think I should do fellow fans?
anonymoose, you are free to post whatever you consider suitable here. I once read some similar stories in tennis, but I don't think it is a big deal. It is understandable that they are just trying to get more attention from the readers.

It's Sofia Titova's birthday ... what an emotional video !!!

Yes! I posted about it in the Academy thread :) I love how the Academy makes these birthday videos for their skaters.

Famous Irina Rodnina visiting the Academy

How tall Sasha has become!!!
I saw that over at the Russian FSO message board, for a second I was confused because Irina's last name is similar to this "journalist" over there in Russia who said horrible things about Alina Z, but then I realised it was the 10 times pairs champion

I wonder if Plushy is planning on going all out with the Academy and hoping to one day have ice dancers and pairs there too. That'd be interesting!

In other news apparently Plushy said in an interview that he doesn't expect things to be awkward at the TV1 Team event...not sure I can share his optimism since right now it's coming off as a some terrible "This is Your Life" thing, but instead of all of Plushy's old friends and mentors showing up it's the people who don't like him

Well Mishin might be there, maybe more Coach counselling can happen!

Ok I'm at work now and there's lots to do! So I better go.

On a cute note before I leave:

Until next time fellow Plushy fans!

anonymoose, because of Plushy you even went to the Russian message board to check things up? :ROFLMAO: Plushy has to behave himself like a meek sheep in front of this iron lady, who is a very powerful personality in Russian FS. She lately sharply criticized him for his harsh words towards those judges at the Nationals, but in the meantime, she acknowledged the National judging mistake when talking about the upcoming jumping competitions. How so? Is it a good sign? 🤔

Well not exactly! I also check up on Sasha T and Liza Tuk too. They have general threads for skaters over there rather than Fanfests so sometimes it gets really heated! Interestingly enough the Yaro Paniot story has really taken off over there. 😳 Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, I'm unable to put my two cents in because I don't have the Russian skills. ;)

As for Irina R I don't know a lot about her, did she comment on the thumbs-down heard around the FS world, I must have missed that!

Well, I have to go out and buy some food and all seems quiet on Insta at the moment, so I'll be off for now!

It seems Plushy is busy politicking. First Rodnina, now Lakernik: https://www.instagram.com/p/CKlGN58JJ5f/?igshid=y3cnnp3m8asy

Let's see if it helps. It is certainly how the game is played in figure skating.
Yes...I'm a bit worried about it to be honest, not sure about Rodnina, but I know for a fact Lakernik is not looked kindly upon - isn't there some suggestion he helped rig Sochi for Adelina Sotnikova?

Plus...if Sasha's and Aliona's scores suddenly get better I can hear the bribery allegations starting right up again 😞

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, I'm unable to put my two cents in because I don't have the Russian skills. ;)
Definitely! :D

I don't think Plushy is bribing any senior Federation officials right here right now. Only after his great efforts spent on his skaters & this sport finally earn the recognition and support of the Federation can AOP gain a firm foothold in this field. Only after that is the AOP able to move farther and grow stronger as planned. I just hope that Plushy would not burn himself out by working this hard.

One thing I am not quite clear about is: why is Kostornaya changing her LP at this point of time? Is it for the Olympic season or she just cannot cope with the choreography of the old one after the illness? Simply a little strange. 🤔

I think it was because it was so unpopular, even the Russian Figure Skating Fed wrote about it in that nasty press-release after Rostelecom. It just didn't get much attention because everyone was lol-ing over Plushy getting publicly humiliated for how he let Sasha down.

Everyone's been complaining about it, but now all of a sudden changing it is the worst idea in the world and a huge affront to Shae-Lynn.

It's double standards all over the place. I swear, if Plushy came out and declared Anna S the most talented skater in the world posters would suddenly go right off her and looking for stuff to nitpick, God forbid if she had actually ended up at the Academy.

I just get annoyed by this narrative that everything Plushy does is wrong and if changes his mind and does what the detractors say, guess what? He's still wrong.

It's a bit exhausting. 😞

Do not read those worthless & tedious gossips, anonymoose. Just cheer up and take good care of yourself. There are so many things in this world that are simply out of our hands, you know. ☹️

Hello fellow Plushy fans!

Well the sun has finally returned after two days of cloudy and rainy weather so I'm feeling cheerful. I hope it holds up because I was going to go to the gym today for the first time in two weeks but the rain kept me lazy

Meanwhile, at the Academy there's no laziness ;)

Hello fellow Plushy fans!

Junior Nats has begun! Alas Plushy is not in attendance, I guess with the TV1 Competition he doesn't have enough time.

In other news I'm having a tough week, I managed to drop my phone and crack the top part of the screen, the phone still works (I'm typing on it now as I watch the Junior Nats Opening Ceremony), but the crack is really irritating and I'm trying to find out if I can get it fixed or if I just have to buy a new phone (fortunately I'm a cheapskate and the phone I'll get - the same one - is under $200)

Enough of my phone woes though! There's important news to report!

So apparently, Alexander Volkov's group is having trouble, they've lost access to ice at the rink the Academy was at prior to the new rink opening. So now they're scrambling about looking for ice... obviously they could go to the new rink, but for whatever reason they don't want to.

Here's an article: https://rsport.ria.ru/20210201/plyuschenko-1595473108.html

The whole thing is really weird though and once again Plushy looks kinda bad here. I mean you could argue as some on the Russian speaking FSO board have that Plushy was always going to build his rink and move out to the suburbs and he certainly can't be expected to provide ice in a very expensive part of Moscow when he's got the new rink, but it's not the best look, you know? As far as I can tell Volkov isn't leaving the Academy, but it's still a very strange arrangement and I'm not sure if it can keep going. :(

Well, I keep waking up an hour early so I was just catching up on board news when this popped up:

Aliona has withdrawn from the TV1 Cup!

This is turning into a disaster season for her and by extension...Plushy. If Aliona K disappears from the figure skating scene...I don't even want to think about it TBH.

And while Sofia Muravieva had an absolutely stunning SP and is in first going into FS (alas she has no quads or 3A for the free), Veronika Z had an utter disaster skate and is waaaaay down in 14th. Kirill S is in 7th and Maxim A in 15th... Artem K is in 3rd, but as mentioned does Volkov's group even count anymore Academy-wise? It's not going well and Plushy isn't there :(

I'm a known catastrophiser, but I'm really concerned, if Sasha has a poor showing at the TV1 Cup it could affect her Russian Cup Final showing and her spot for Worlds :( Not to mention how bad it'll look for the Academy - it'll become the place where promising skaters go to disappear from the skating scene...

I try to believe in Plushy and I do...but at the same time...I feel like he's trying to do too much too fast and it's going to blow up in his face 😭

I'd just hate to see the Academy become a case study in failure 😞

One bad day does not ruin a school. It will be ok
I know, but there's more than just one day :( there's:

Sasha T's complete mess up at Rostelecom for which Plushy was publicly blamed and shamed for
The thumbs down incident
Aliona's programs
Aliona's 3A MIA
Aliona and Veronika's COVID-19
Sasha's 3rd place at Nats despite skating her cleanest ever (and it wasn't even close!)
Kirill's loss at the Moscow Championship (Which was close but when Kirill made one error and the winner made like 2 glaring one's it's embarrassing)
The whole mess with Alexander Volkov's group
Rina Ryabova and Staysa K leaving (especially Staysa, she was the White Swan in Plushy's show! How bad must conditions be if getting top billing in a huge show wasn't enough to make her stick around)
The continual comments from everyone (including such important names as T Tarasova) about how Plushy is a fake coach
Veronika hitting the big jumps in practice but falling apart in competition
Nikita Sarnovsky being 3rd after SP at the Novice Moscow Championships then ending up 7th and missing out on Novice Nats
Even Sofia Titova winning the Moscow Novice Championships has a big question mark over it because the organisers were stupid enough to allow Alexander Volkov onto the judging panel. The conflict of interest is off the scale and Plushy said nothing so now looks like an enormous hypocrite
And if course Zheleznyakov saying those awful things and threatening Plushy and it all being some big old joke which just shows how Plushy is seen by the fandom at large, a big joke.

Now I've depressed myself 😞

ETA: And how could I forget the humiliation conga line that is the TV1 Team Event? Yagudin is hosting, T Tarasova is judging and 4 of the 6 girls competing are from Eteri's school and so are the captains. No-one will want Sasha or Liza on their team. They shouldn't have bothered bringing in any non-Crystal ladies, everyone knows they're the best. Plushy's going to look so stupid there.

Do not overreact to all these things, anonymoose. :) The Team Event & the Jump Competition are just awkwardly designed to popularize the FS around the country at this difficult time of life, and their national TV simply loves to create unnecessary tensions among these young ladies for higher ratings, but on the other hand, it is pointless to talk our heads off because of some skater or coach on any forum. They are just living their own lives we outsiders will never have the right to take a hand in, and they are also mature enough to cope with any challenges lying ahead. Like Kostornaya once said that she never cared about those vicious critics, what a smart girl! 👍 Her withdrawal from the Event is a well-thought out and correct decision. What's the point of skating at a show when she is not ready and now fully preparing for the Finals?

As for the training issues of Volkov's group, I can only say that running a big business on your own is never an easy job. The other new rink in the city is not yet ready, but they will sort things out in the end, I believe. I don't think their possible decision to stay or leave will make any negative impact on the AOP.

I am not used to following those juniors, but Muravieva's SP here is simply amazing. :love2: Veronika still needs time to grow, and Plushy's company at these events is also very important for her.
