Veronika still needs time to grow, and Plushy's company at these events is also very important for her.

Except Plushy isn't there as far as I know I mean I get why he's not, but yeah

The Team Event & the Jump Competition are just awkwardly designed to popularize the FS around the country at this difficult time of life, and their national TV simply loves to create unnecessary tensions

I guess....but Plushy, Sasha and Liza (with Mishin?) are the losers. It's been set up so that if Sasha or Liza fail and their team loses it will be their fault for being second rate and not as perfect as the Crystal Girls. You know how judges are if Sasha isn't perfect it will continue on to the Cup Final and her scores will drop even more. The Russian Figure Skating Fed is hoping and praying for Daria and Maia to burst onto the Senior scene so they can toss Sasha aside, now that she's started the quad revolution they don't need her anymore.

I don't think their possible decision to stay or leave will make any negative impact on the AOP.

Call me pessimistic, but I think it would be a huge negative impact. Alexander Volkov is the only coach with any experience... without him the Academy really is just a bunch of novices. Big names, no knowledge.

Kirill's loss at the Moscow Championship (Which was close but when Kirill made one error and the winner made like 2 glaring one's it's embarrassing)
The whole mess with Alexander Volkov's group
Rina Ryabova and Staysa K leaving (especially Staysa, she was the White Swan in Plushy's show! How bad must conditions be if getting top billing in a huge show wasn't enough to make her stick around)
The continual comments from everyone (including such important names as T Tarasova) about how Plushy is a fake coach
Veronika hitting the big jumps in practice but falling apart in competition
Nikita Sarnovsky being 3rd after SP at the Novice Moscow Championships then ending up 7th and missing out on Novice Nats
Even Sofia Titova winning the Moscow Novice Championships has a big question mark over it because the organisers were stupid enough to allow Alexander Volkov onto the judging panel. The conflict of interest is off the scale and Plushy said nothing so now looks like an enormous hypocrite
And if course Zheleznyakov saying those awful things and threatening Plushy and it all being some big old joke which just shows how Plushy is seen by the fandom at large, a big joke.

ETA: And how could I forget the humiliation conga line that is the TV1 Team Event? Yagudin is hosting, T Tarasova is judging and 4 of the 6 girls competing are from Eteri's school and so are the captains. No-one will want Sasha or Liza on their team. They shouldn't have bothered bringing in any non-Crystal ladies, everyone knows they're the best. Plushy's going to look so stupid there.

Oh, no, it has not been exactly just all moonlight and roses but has not been that bad, either.
I think saying nobody will want Sasha on their team is taking it really way too far. We could see at the RusNats that changing coaches did not affect former 3A relationship at the slightest and Sasha has always seemed easy going and well liked by the others, too. Actually it was Kamila who seemed the odd one out there and left out of the fun standing next to Sasha and Anna on her own. As for the perceived potential input to the team, even with not exactly friendly judging she is still the unquestionable Top 3 at the Russian Ladies FS. No worry about that.
As for Alyona, it is sad situation but I think they try to handle it best they can. Let's not forget she lost her 3A and her form under the lockdown while still under Eteri and failed to recover it with her, so turned to AoP as the last chance move. She's struggling with COVID after-effects on top of that. Finding a new balance, new style, new training approaches, new understanding and rapport with a new choreographer always takes time. I do not think anyone can be blamed, unfortunately. Still she herself does not seem to worry too much and actually seems to be quite happy so maybe let's just wait and see and hope for the best for her. Keeping our fingers crossed, of course.
I feel bad about Veronika but she is still just very, very young and cannot keep her nerves under control. She'll learn. I am very happy for Sofya, though, and I think it is a good sign for AoP.
As for Stasya, well.... again, she had been struggling before she came. Some things just cannot be made up for.
As for the other things, I do not really think that the decsion makers are all that Plushenko focused as you are . They just invited the same people they usually do, that's all there is.

Yes it probably is, I didn't mean to suggest that the others had something personal against her, only that in terms of jumps it's a risk and better to have a Crystal girl on your team. And I'm worried because apparently her mysterious leg injury is still bothering her What if she really hurts herself trying to win the jump competition? I can't think of a scenario much worse than that.

I know, I know, but it feels that way...I mean really they couldn't have planned a more awkward competition for Plushy if they tried. I just feel like everything he does at it will be scrutinized and how is he even supposed to face Yagudin? What is Plushy supposed to say to this guy who tore his reputation to shreds after Sochi, publically accused Yana of threatening to kill him and his family (she didn't and it was some ridiculous radio station prank) and mocks the Academy? Like on the one hand Plushy needs to act professionally, but on the other it's insulting to the extreme that he has to play nice with a jerk like Yagudin.

And to make things worse, preparing for this team event meant Plushy didn't go to Junior Nats. Yes, Sofia M did brilliantly, but all the others must have been so let down. Especially, Kirill...I can accept Nika's placement and Artem K's (although his FS was a horror show, his TES was among the lowest in the event, despite doing quads. The lack of ice time clearly effected him...and even if Plushy has perfectly good reasons for not paying for ice in the centre of Moscow,it really looks like he just abandoned Artem. Considering how well the season began for him...it's a huge disappointment and one I don't know he can bounce back from).

But Maxim Avtushenko and Kirill? I'm really sad for them - for some reason poor Maxim is stuck wearing last season's FS costume even though it doesn't fit the theme of his new FS st all. I feel embarrassed for him and I don't understand why Plushy and the team haven't paid for a new one. I know costumes aren't technically marked in terms of how they fit the program, but the average viewer must think "Why is this kid dressed like this when he's skating to Sherlock Holmes?" He looks silly, even sillier than Stephen Gogolev did, I mean yes, Stephen did appear to be wearing pyjamas, but at least there was a big fingerprint on them.

And Kirill? I don't understand his scores at all, he had a wonderful FS, but even at the time he didn't lead after it. Like? How? I'm a big fan and I'm worried his chances of making it onto the international scene are getting smaller and smaller Obviously his scores wouldn't be different if Plushy had been there (at least...I assume not), but the support would have been nice.

I'm just worried Plushy has stretched himself too far...now if he does go to a competition with Kirill and Kirill goes well there'll be this nagging feeling that other people will say Plushy only turns up if he thinks his skaters have a chance. He's a fair-weather coach who only wants to make himself look good and he doesn't really care about his skaters after all.

And these are the thoughts that wake me up at 4 in the morning on a work day, ugh.

Will you calm down a bit, anonymoose? I dare say no other coach in this world cares more about his/her skaters like Plushy does. He is creating excellent living & training conditions for them with his money and heart, which he had been dreaming of in his childhood. Moreover, he offers many opportunities for them to exhibit their performing talents in his big shows. And above all these, he devotes all his time & energy to coaching as well as keeping his school running efficiently. What else do you expect him to do, then?

I think right now Trusova and Kostornaya need him more than anyone else in his team because of the up-coming Finals and Worlds, which imo are much more important than the Junior Nationals. If he failed his promises this time, those Russians and people here would immediately burst out and tear him to pieces with their NOBLE THEORIES, although they are not at all saints themselves in real life.

As for Artem, he declined to move to Plushy's current training base that he considered inconvenient, and his poor showing here is not Plushy's fault. As you know, Artem is deeply attached to Volkov because he has been training with him since he was a little kid. In other words, Volkov is his leading coach, not Plushy, and Plushy is not giving anyone up.

Let's see if I can draw a skating parallel. When someone makes a -1 GOE comment about your favorites, you read it as a -5 GOE comment.

Occasionally it gets worse. When someone makes a -1 GOE comment about someone else, you read it as a -5 GOE comment about your favorites. This time last year, you couldn't care less if I talk crap about .... let's say, Rosanov's stupid haircut. But now? You'd take that same comment as an attack against Plushenko.

Live and let live, man. Opinions are like.... you-know-what, everyone has one. Remember, you can be biased too, and that's okay!

Well Day 1 of the TV1 Cup came and went with no disaster, just like you all promised! Sasha T did the most beautiful 5 jump combo and was happy and laughing

Plushy looked super nervous though, the gum chewing was back in full force! He and Dima M looked a bit isolated waaaaay over in the corner of the rink. I was hoping for some Professor interaction, ah well.

Maybe I should steer clear of the Russian FSO board, it does have up to the minute news, but they're very hard on Plushy. There were quite a few comments about him not going to the Junior Nationals as him not been invested. I'm sure he was watching from the Academy rink and probably phoned the Angels competing to congratulate/commiserate with/advise them!

Regarding Kirill's score I asked about it on the Russian Men's Thread and apparently he got a < for one if his 3As and of course...the dreaded level 2 step sequence of d00m. But I like level 2 step sequences

The Professor visited the Academy! Awww Mishin's 80th birthday is in March and it looks like the Academy will attend. I hope so!

This is awesome! Basically Mishin with his "kids" and "grandkids". He has such a special, wonderful relationship with Plushy! I was wondering if there are any plans for a show in honour of the Professor's 80th birthday, hopefully they can set something up despite the Corona situation.

Yesterday while watching the jump festival the thought came to my mind that this would also be a brilliant format to bring back some of the "retired greats". Channel One is obviously after the drama, so you could have Team Plushy and Team Yags and perhaps even invite some international participants like Brian, Stephane, Johnny or Caro! And for pairs they could have TT&MM! (Total fangirl mode switched on). Plushy would outjump them all with a little training, obviously.

Well I caught up on Day 1 of the event, it certainly was fun! Can you believe that Team Zhenya Med got real astronauts to introduce them? That's sooooo cool!

In important news, I was super proud of Plushy today! Which sounds lame, but I was. I do love it when Plushy's silly and having fun, but as a coach he needed to be professional here and he was! He was obviously super nervous for Sasha, but he kept his cool.

And I saw photos before but now I can't find them shame!

Well...I set my alarm for 4am, but I just couldn't sleep so I ended up watching the men, pairs and ladies at the Cup.

I enjoyed most of it, but the ladies was nerve wracking! Because Sasha with all her quads was pretty much the only way to win. Sasha though is not doing all her quads yet, but maybe she could pull it off? But then if it was a disaster...

I mentioned this is the Cup thread, but sometimes it feels like the coaches are also been judged, with proper scores and everything and I get nervous Plushy will get a bad score. Do you think Plushy feels this way? Even though I didn't follow his skating career in real time there's an association of Plushy + competition = judging! I need to break the association!

Anyway Sasha went out and had a tough start before roaring back. I love the choreo (step?) sequence, it's so fierce!

She seemed pretty happy in the KnC, Plushy talked a lot but alas no-one in the thread translated, but then they also didn't grumble about it? So maybe it was good?

That 4T-3T is stunning, just stunning. Just think, he had metal screws in his back! And he jumped like that! If Plushy was a young skater starting out today with lighter boots and blades and the best physio (it was lacking back in the day), I truly believe he could have got all the quads.

Indeed! Plushy does have some experience in such things, long ago before Yagudin and Alina, Plushy hosted Ice Age with Irina Slutskaya for a season

I've just remembered maybe the YouTube video will offer clues I'll investigate.
