It's still not too widespread, I think. Most super-young boys doing quads seem to be from Tutberidze (e.g. Kolesnikov, Samsonov, Lukin was there till recently). There is also Maxim Belyavsky from Davydov's camp, who I think acquired his quad as a junior but is still fairly young. Interestingly these same teams are known for girls doing quads, maybe they introduce it across the board for both genders at an early age.

I'm not sure if it is an advantage though, as boys normally get better at both jumps and PCS around 16-17 (versus girls who seem to develop both PCS and jumps early, but get worse at jumps as late teens - the respective growth trends seem to be U- and \ -shaped respectively 🤔). So a 13-y.o. boy with 1 quad has to compete against many 17-y.o.s with similar base values, who have had more time to build power and skating skills to boot, while it isn't the case with girls.
Big thanks for this! I am extremely relieved that I know all of those names already. And have a couple of more boys born after 2005 who have already tried quads (Karartynyan, Orlov, Sarnovskiy Kirill, Sobolev, Soloviev) plus 11 born in 2005. So I don't think I will have to start browsing past novice results quite yet ;-)

And this is a very recent development, usually the first tries in competition have been done at late teens. There are also some boys doing the same in the US and Japan (not very many, though). I don't know whether it is the influence of the girls or just a more common trend and have wondered if the Russian media has paid any attention. I guess the emphasis is so much on women that boys get to do their first trials in relative peace.

It will be interesting to see what comes out ot this - how many continue to do quads, will they develop other skills and actually be able to exploit the quads to their advantage, and so on. The numbers from Russia are staggering compared to the rest of the world so far!

And I completely agree, the boys don't necessarily gain that much from early quads because the rest of it is really not there quite yet. Watching the junior GP this fall has really made that point very clear to me as the top youngest junior girls look so much better than the somewhat older boys.

On another note, the boys when they were younger:

OMG...this is amazing! And so cute!

I got Sasha S wrong too, mainly because there was a boy with some rather crazy pants that gave me a total Samarin's closet vibe. 😅 I think that was Artem K, which makes sense considering his crazy pants for the Queen FS until recently (jeggings?! Seriously, lad ;) )

But OMG I squeed at Kirill though, he honestly looks exactly the same. :laugh2: Cute as a button tbh.

Having said that...I've also looked exactly the same for years. I'm sure I'd be easily identifiable even from a years ago video.

Ira is as usual a life saver. She's the biggest supporter of our boys ever:love2:
She knows she has to compensate for the tv acting like they dont exist:censored:
Recognized almost everyone

Only four skaters have no minimums to participate at the Europeans (Dikidzhi, Anisimov, Sarnovskiy, Rukhin)

ANYTHING can happen

You can get tech minimums from junior competitions but you can use it only for the JWC.

Here are the all Russian men who have senior minimums

Oh, so Erokhov did manage technical min in FS in Warsaw?

I am impressed that Mozalev posted the highest TES in the free. 🌟

Obviously he wants to make it more thrilling for us, medal at RusNats and then get Worlds minimums at Euros. 🕯️🕯️🕯️
Yes, so there is still the window for him. I am glad to hear that! They would anyway send anyone they are looking at for the final 3 to Euros.

Bummer about Savosin, but he wouldn’t have had enough pull this year anyway. But something to work on for next year for him. Maybe he could replicate that brilliant short that we didn’t get to see for Nationals!
