I am going to miss H/D's dynamic flow over the ice when they retire.

Basic question here. I haven't been following ice dance for a few years.
What happened to the 3 programs?
Do they still train the waltz and other strict dances?
I miss watching the basic waltz
Why does it seem that everyone's picking rock music?

NBC keeps bringing up something called a "super bowl" and wow, I could not care less about a bunch of aggro men trying to knock each over and catch oblong balls right now.

Like in the men´s free my impression is most skates looked a bit subdued. But maybe that´s just myself, as my enthusiasm is limited in this cursed Olympics edition

Given that the technical panel is Poland, Hungary, and Japan, I'm not really surprised how the technical levels played out.

i haven't gone to bed and work in 15 minutes... LOL... it's okay i only have 2 meetings so i will go to bed at noon... and wake up a 8pm or so LOL... what a mess !!!

I am a bit disappointed that piper and paul missed the final flight by half a point... but that wasn't their best skate... so it's okay... i hope they get up a spot or two in the FD but that's going to be near to impossible.

Happy with PC and also FBS.

I was too deflated to watch HD.

Judges really didn't like L/G apparently.

A number of years ago the Compulsory Dances were merged into the original dance. Now there is a piece of a compulsory dance chosen (in this case the Midnight Blues) that is woven into a theme (this year Blues/Street Dance). It is because the powers wanted each event to have only 2 segments and because repetitive compulsory dances were deemed too boring and not viewer friendly (although very good at sorting out teams).

It’s hard for me not to feel like if Chock/Bates had done the team RD they might’ve been more confident on the ice today. But whatever. Just hope they can really go all out in the free dance and get full credit but it does feel horribly like the individual medal is gone for them now.

Well I am so pleased S/B made it into the final group and I am happy that P/C outshone their closest competitors. But I am sad that both G/P and C/B didn’t do as well as they had hoped I think the podium is set too, bar any major mistakes but it could still be a close competition on Monday.

The Compulsory Dance and the Original Dance were combined into what's now known as the "Rhythm Dance"...So each season a predetermined pattern dance is selected for them to skate to, and the music and choreography have to fit within the theme...the past 2 seasons it was actually the "Finnstep" which is a quick-step type pattern...this skating season is the "Midnight Blues" and the choreographic elements have to fit within the jazz/blues/hip hop/street style of dance. I definitely feel this round of Midnight Blues (as opposed to the first season it was the midnight blues) most skaters were able to find their own groove/niche a whole lot easier. The Free Dance is where there is still the most freedom to be original, and not set to any overall theme.

There are Waltz pattern dances that exist and may still come up as the Pattern Dance...they've done the Golden Waltz and the Ravensberger Waltz Patterns before.

They dont know if SK keepeing their gold medal, so they want them highest as possible

I was afraid for them when I saw they drew to skate after S/K. Madi is so tiny and the height difference between her and Evan is much larger than S/K that I feared they would look slow in comparison. With a number of ruts on the ice, it also wouldn't take much to knock Madi off an edge. I think everyone knew there would be a strict panel and were rather tense and trying hard not to give away points. Piper & Paul were one of the few who really went for it and unfortunately suffered some loss in levels. It is what it is and the event is not over until it is over.
