Ladies SP

Ashley

Ashley/Mirai/Rachael have not been seriously 'tested' at international senior scenes. Those inflated scores at Nationals were just ridiculous. Does anybody really believe Rachael can get 7s in PCS??? Despite all the 'excitement' fanned by those fervent believers, I'm afraid they will not be able to live up to heightened expectations. International judges are notoriously petulant. They may never like one particular skater's style and will never give the girl high PCS no matter how many triples she can nail. Ask Mira Leung! I have a feeling Rachael Flatt will never get the respect from international judges no matter how many 7-triple programs she can do...

We'll get more clue at JW.

WOOHOOOOOOO! GO JOANNIE!!! She beat everybody in TES and 3rd highest PCS . . . WAY TO GO! I'm so thrilled for her and glad she's responding so strong to anyone claiming she's over the hill. She's definitely still capable of being top 5 in the world when she's on!:bow::clap::love:

Very close between the top 3, but I would have given a slight edge to Joannie in the Short.

Joannie's SP

:agree:
Hope she holds up well for the Free

Thank you chuckm for the explanation on page 1.

Fuji TV has broadcast, for the time being as sports news, Mao and Miki in full, Joannie and Fumie extracts.

Miki's SP was IMO even better than her Nats, and I can't understand why it got only the same points as her NHK.
...and she looked so sweet.

Mao skated fast, amazing.
Joannie seemed full of confidence to me.
Hope their LPs will set the rink on fire on Saturday.

riceplate, thank you SO MUCH for the link to Joannie's SP!!:love::bow::clap: Oh, how I hope she can carry this momentum and strong skating into the LP here and into Worlds!! She is so capable and hope she fulfills that potential. Btw, that 3toe does not look underrotated to me enough to earn a downgrade. Oh well.................

Who would have thought that Ashley would be in 12th and Bebe in fifth.
Congrats to the ladies. Best SP of the season for Joannie she rocked that program.

We here in Canada don't call Joannie "Rocket Rochette" for nothing.

Way to go Joannie on that 3 F/3Lz. Just Keep Having Fun!!!

Yes, thanks for Joannie's SP. Such a joy to see this. She has not skated a clean short in over a year by my recollection, let alone with the 3-3. She looked so confident and powerful. Way to go. If only to get this SP under her belt, it was a good move for her to attend 4CC.

Ashley at the SGP this fall was not a serious test internationally at the SR level?

But did she actually pass the 'test'? One bronze medal does not really mean much. My theory is that only a skater gets at least 6+ in PCS on a regular basis from international judges, she can be considered a serious top skater. Regular 5+/6+ in PCS will not guarantee you anything in serious competitions... Any slip-up in jumps can send you home under such scenario. Ashley is a good example to my theory.

I just watched Ashley. She didn't do badly - I would definitely not call it a sign of failing the big tests. It just looked like she had jet lag or something. She didn't sparkle the way she usually does. It was a little tired looking.

Bebe OTOH sparkled. She was great apart from the fall.

Go Bebe and Ashley in the FP!

!

No, she was actually doing well. I don't understand her low marks since there's no obvious mistake. International judges have yet to warm up to her. We'll see in the future, but my sense is international judges do not seem to particularly like Wagner and Rachael.

I'm quite glad that Joannie still scored 60+ in the SP with the downgraded 3-3, and the highest TES to boot! And the fact the top 3 all had downgraded 3-3s and are about tied on the scores gives me hope that Joannie still has what it takes to be compeititve with the very top ladies. Just when I began to think she might be a lost cause she surprised me wonderfully. Well done Joannie for landing the first 3-3 in the SP at 22!!

Wow, Rachael is getting the blast here. I guess there is no Kimmie to blast at.

Anway, I understand individuals likes and dislikes and that's what makes figure skating The Mother of All Subjective Sports. One says Rachael will never, and I say she will, but it will take some time. As for judges, they seem to vary among themselves in their likes and dislikes. Not as bad as it was in 6.0.

Back on Topic. I would have thought Mao would be soaring high scores in the Tech. Did the judges not like her tech? Will she always be lower than expected in the Tech? I don't think so. It may be that she is not invincible, as we all thought, but still a superb Technical skater.

Indeed, Junior Worlds will add a little more knowledge on the Amercian Ladies and the Long Program here will tell us more about the top 3 Ladies.
