Ladies SP

netnuts, Thank you for the direct link! Just what I needed. And it is streaming very smoothly today

But did [Ashley] actually pass the 'test'? One bronze medal does not really mean much.

I roll my eyes at how quickly people jump on a bandwagon and put huge expectations on a new skater while simultaneously dismissing skaters with a proven record who're in a slump. *coughkimmiecough*

I especially  :rolleye: at things like the The Edge thread proclaiming that the big future showdown will be Ashley v. YuNa.

Not to say they're not both good skaters and fine competitors. But here we are, just a couple weeks after that bold prediction, and YuNa is injured again and the judges are showing they're not going to fall all over the new kid.

Ice is slippery and the Olympic cycle is a marathon, not a sprint.

Oh, and  Joannie!

BeBe's in 5th, highest placing of the US girls. BTW, Frank Carroll was in the K&C with her and Ken Congemi. Her only mistake was to kind of crumple & fall after the 2t on the end of her combination.

I think Ashley's low marks were due to a double/double combination instead of a triple/triple combination.

Sad for Ashley, but...GO BEBE!!!!:clap: I am thrilled for her:love: Yea for Mao, Miki & Joannie too

Come on Cynthia, Fumie & Ashley!! Climb back up the standings!!

I think it's a triple/double, have to see protocols though. Since Bebe's fall was on the 2t of the combo, it didn't cost her as much.

Looks like tech specialist was strigent, Mao and Miki's 3+3 haven't been downgraded for a long time until now. Very inconsistent callers.

It's strange to see Mao only less than one point ahead of her SB which she achieved at GPF. It was a joke as she fell out on a combo and completely botched a 3lutz.

BeBe's 2T was slightly ur, which was why she fell on it.

According to someone on another board who has access to protocols, Ashley was downgraded on the 3F (a jump she's never underrotated in the past), got dinged for her flutz, and got level1 on her spiral. BTW, since she got downgraded on the 3Z+3L in the SP at Skate Canada, Ashley has never tried a 3/3 in the SP, and she didn't this time.

I saw all the top ladies' SPs, and I saw nothing amiss with Ashley's jumps. She wasn't as lively as she usually is, but that could be due to jet lag.

OTOH, Fumie Suguri double-footed the 3Z and stepped out before adding the 2T, then stepped out of her 3F. She looked slow, tired and draggy throughout the program. Yet compare her scores with Ashley's:

50.24 25.73 24.51 6.46 5.93 6.04 6.18 6.04 Suguri
47.29 24.10 23.19 5.89 5.68 5.82 5.89 5.71 Wagner

Mira Leung's 2A was definitely underrotated, just as it usually is. But she apparently got full credit for it.

Miki and Mao were obviously both very underscored. Makes you wonder what the judges' agenda is.

Chuckiem - You should put your name in as a Tech Caller since you seem to be the only one who can determine who underrotes and who doesn't. Funny thing is it's never the American Ladies who ever underroate - they just get wronging called for doing so while others do underroate and never get called. So glad your eyes are so much better then the caller!

Back on Topic. I would have thought Mao would be soaring high scores in the Tech. Did the judges not like her tech? Will she always be lower than expected in the Tech? I don't think so. It may be that she is not invincible, as we all thought, but still a superb Technical skater.

Joe, I am afraid with such a judging ~system~ even Her Magesty the fruit of gymnastic love between Sergei Bubka and Alina Kabaeva, miss Yu-na Kim isn't invincible. Yes, even her. -P

I said Wagner had never underrotated the FLIP in her previous international competitions, I did not say she never underrotated. And I have also frequently mentioned Zhang's underrotations and Kimmie's as well.

The thing is I have RESEARCHED the back protocols to support what I have said about Wagner and Leung. Leung has consistently been slammed for underrotating her 2A, both in her SPs and her FSs. In this year's GPs, Wagner got just ONE ur, and that was on her 3/3 in the SP at Skate Canada.

Sackie, I would suggest that you either get some reading glasses and/or take the time and trouble to read my posts in their entirety before making such generalized statements.

hey, no fistfight... And that's not even true, everyone agreed that Zhang and Meissner underrotate, Americans and non-Americans.

But to be totally honest - nearly all these combos with the triple loop as the second jump look underrotated to me, not always more than 1/4 but most of the times at least a bit underrotated. Perhaps there is a reason for the fact that none of the top men do combos with a triple loop as the second jump - it tends to look scratchy and even the best and not-called triple flip/lutz - triple loop-combos (done by Asada and Ando) never look as clean or fluent as for example Triple flip-triple toe when done by Yu-Na Kim. And then again, the only girls who have a "masculine" triple flip-triple toe, with great height and flow are in my opinion Yu-Na Kim and Carolina Kostner.

^
A combo with a triple or even a double Loop is always so prerotated beyond a quarter of a turn on the ice, it's laughable, but the audience still thinks it's high tech.

I love Ashley's skating, but perhaps she's tired or jet lagged and that affected her jumps. Just because she's never been dinged for under rotation, doesn't mean she never will be; it's not out of the picture.

I didn't watch her SP though - it was way too late and I only caught the last group because my roommate's alarm woke me up, but it's just a thought.

I did watch her skate. And I said she'd never been dinged for underrotation on the FLIP (which is where she got the ur).

In the JGP Ashley sometimes got ur on her lutz, but never on her flip.

Way to go girl! Yay BEBE!!!:love::love::rock::rock:

Did Ashley purposley do a 2/2 or was her triple downgraded?

-A big surprise at Ashley's standing.

-A lot of worries (rather than a surprise) about Fumie. Will she make the assignment to GP series next year?

-A surprise at Mao's downgrade and worries about shaky landing on lutz. Will she be ever able to pull out a clean program at Worlds and in the next season?

-Miki having headache. Does anyone know why? Is it possible due to psychological strain?

-Dissapointed at Yuna's absence. Seems more serious than I thought. But hopeful to hear that she was doing clean performances in practices before this. Take care.

I don't know if this is the right thread. Haven't seen them all yet but...
I looooooooove Mao's new dress.
