I wonder if she gets selectet for both senior and junior worlds if she stays on the podium

Less likely…even if she’ll make it to the podium, my prediction is that JSF will consider her for JWC only (edit: and perhaps some other internationl competition later on to gain WS ranking points)

The field is wide open. I just hope Mai is rewarded and qualifies to Worlds this year, even if she places out of the podium position, due to her consistency, this year.
At this point, there are exactly three people eligible to be selected for Worlds: Mai, Kaori, and Rinka. The only way for anybody else to join the discussion is to finish on the podium.

And if I'm Rinka at this point, I'm pulling really hard for Mao Shimada to join Mai and Kaori on the podium, as Mao is too young to go, leaving Rinka as literally the final option no matter how badly she finishes at Nationals.

(Well, maybe not literally the final option. They could potentially choose Higuchi Wakaba because of her prior Worlds podium, though she'd have to get her minimum TES somewhere...and, of course, agree to do it)

I think you're forgetting Mana Kawabe here...

She's on 6th position after the SP, much better than Rinka - and we've seen that JSF is willing to support Mana now.
Even if Mana doesn't end up in the podium, if there are only juniors ahead of her, I think JSF will still send her to worlds. They did send her to the Olympics after all.

No, I'm not forgetting her. She doesn't meet any of the current requirements to be chosen for Worlds. The only way she can do so is via a podium placement at Nationals.
What are the current requirements to be chosen for Worlds again?

Thanks for that! I forgot how complicated the criteria is.

By rule 2-A, if Mone podiums then she can be sent instead of Rinka though?
She's age eligible and has the technical minimums for worlds already.

It is unusual for JSF to send a "junior" to worlds, but maybe if Mone podiums and Rinka bombs badly in the FS then JSF might choose Mone over Rinka.

Anybody that makes the podium, is age eligible, and is able to obtain minimum TES can be chosen for (Senior) Worlds.

And in fact, they've made it quite clear over the years that Nationals is far and away the most important of the criteria. Rinka doesn't yet have the name value of a Hanyu Yuzuru or Mao Asada, so if she wants to go to Worlds, then she'd better get on the podium herself, or else pray that nobody else but Kaori, Mai, and Mao does.

I see I see.

An interesting scenario is if Mana or Rion skates really well but ends up 4th behind Mao, Kaori and Mai on the podium, while Rinka bombs badly and places 18th or something.

Will JSF make an exception for Mana or Rion? If "Nationals is the most important" then is there any chance...? Somehow I doubt it, it's going to feel unfair for Mana or Rion but JSF will probably play it safe by the rules ey.

No. A podium finish at Nationals is most important. Finishing fourth is just as good as finishing twenty-fourth, i.e., no good at all towards qualifying.

And really, why would they? Rinka did win a Grand Prix event, she did go to a Grand Prix final, and she did better than the reigning world champion at said Grand Prix final. There's absolutely no reason for the JSF to break their own rules; Rinka remains a perfectly acceptable pick if no other person can find a way to legitimately meet the requirements.

Sad… I was hoping someone like Mone or Mana could do it, over Rinka. I really do not see anybody else on the podium other than Kaori, Mai and Mao, unless Kaori implodes.

Well, did you see Tomoe Kawabata on the podium two years ago? Anything can happen, that's why we play it out and see where it goes.

Talking about 4cc what is the criteria because Japan already selected Mai, Kaori and Rinka for winter universiade, it sould be more intelligent for JSF to send different skaters there, plus they normally send skaters to minor events before and after senior worlds

Quoting myself from another thread:

Four Continents Figure Skating Championships
(Men's and Women's Singles, Pairs, and Ice Dance: 3 slots each)
(1) Male and female single
At the end of the All Japan Championships, a comprehensive judgment will be made from those who meet one of the following criteria.
A) Top 10 of All Japan Championships
B) Top six ISU World Standings at the end of the All Japan Championships
C) Top 6 ISU Season World Rankings at the end of the All Japan Championships
D) Top 6 ISU Season Best Scores at the end of the All Japan Championships
E) At international competitions dispatched before the All Japan Championships and domestic competitions designated by the strengthening department
Season Best Total Element Score Top 6 players

No, she wouldn't. She has them from last season.

No, she wouldn't. She has them from last season.
In that case, all she needs is a valid excuse for skipping Nationals.

But seriously, if nobody else qualifies, then Japan won't have any alternates available. So if one of them got inured, they just might have to say "hey Wakaba, are you busy in March?"

heh. This is not a normal season for JSF. Just look at the Challenger non-assignments. I don't trust them anymore to give their skaters opportunities to compete. They're not being a normal federation that cares for its skaters' careers this year. Ask Yuhana and Rino. Rion redeemed her scores in the GP, fortunately.
