Returning to the MASH discussion, I think I've cracked why there were so many Sonja Henie references.
A couple of days ago, I was looking up the cast members, and their backgrounds. And I got a surprise. The new Commanding Officer that came in at the start of Series 4, Colonel Sherman Potter, was played by Harry Morgan, who I had previously seen in a number of films. Due to having the surname "Morgan", I always assumed Harry had an Irish background. However, I have now found out that this was actually a stage name. His real name is Harry Bratsberg. And he is from a Norwegian family!
Yes, I know the first reference to Sonja that I spotted was in Series 3, Episode 7, and Colonel Potter didn't arrive until 18 episodes later, in the opening episode of Series 4, "Welcome To Korea". However, Harry Morgan had already appeared in MASH in the opening episode of Series 3, where he played a different character, General Steele. So, even though he wasn't a regular cast member yet, he might have had a bit of influence. Or at least been in the minds of the writers.
Anyway, I watched the opening episode of Series 6, "Fade Out, Fade In", last night after the Tallink Hotels Cup stream got cut off. And Sonja got another mention.
Captains Hawkeye Pierce and BJ Hunnicutt were with Colonel Potter in his office. Potter went to his filing cabinet in the corner. He then opened one of the drawers, and got out a bottle of something (whiskey?). He poured a glass for each of them, and they then sat down and started proposing toasts.
Potter: "Skål"
Hawkeye: "Anita Ekberg"
BJ: "Ingrid Bergman"
Potter: "Sonja Henie"
Note that whereas the two Captains went for Swedish actresses, Colonel Potter toasted a Norwegian.
The scene didn't actually have any significance to the episode. But including it was a nice wee way of referencing Harry Morgan's Scandinavian heritage.
