2023 Skate America Free Dance

Really enjoyed Green and Parsons FD. That music is stunning and they skated impressively. Chock and Bates were fantastic but I am really ready for new talent.

I like LaJoie and Lagha and really admire their technical skills. Zachary just seems so distant/removed, like he's skating on his own. Marjorie makes efforts to emote and connect but it's hard when your partner is not seeing you. My take.

Did you watch their RD? Even in the FD I feel that their connection has improved a lot. I think Zach and Marjo have evolved a lot since their junior years in that department. I no longer feel that it is a problem for them. Obviously, my take :)

Interesting perspective. I still see his emotions as self-expressive but not connecting with his partner or the audience. Kind of like the difference between sympathy and empathy. But if others are seeing progress then I should be watching for that growth.

A softer look for Natalie & Phillip. I am not getting the story and I really would like to understand it. The gentle power and flow is wonderful, but the music doesn't really give me anything.
Such interesting comments! Taschlers FD might not come across as effectively on video, but live and close up, it’s amazing. You see them as children playing, as angsty teens, and as the competitors they are today—probably just the way their father would remember them. It’s a beautiful piece.

And as they finished the run through at practice this morning, Natalia looked to be tearing up.

I also loved Green & Parsons’ FD, absolutely beautiful, sophisticated piece, but I fear it might be a bit subtle for some viewers!

I did not know this. Without knowing the back story it was all a jumble. Now I will go back and rewatch for sure. Thanks for explaining.

I can understand how emotional a skate this must be. I skated Adult Nationals just after my father died.

I also agree that G/P piece is very subtle and that is not always rewarded. I love subtle and love the program. It has come a long way already since its first outing.

Watchng LaLa and CB back to back. Let's give LaLa their dues : their edges and gliding are superior. CB have a great program here with a ton of twisting and lifting movements intertwined in the choreo. I really like it... But they pose a lot. They don't skate through the whole 4 minutes of the FD. What about ice coverage??? Isn't that a huge factor in ice dance? Judges loved them when we see the GOE, even for the straight line lift that was wobbly and received perhaps the highest GOE of all straight line lifts... with 1.58. So yeah... if I were very positive with CB's RD, and if I do love this FD, I wished they skated more and I wished the other teams who do skate and make this more about sport than acting were rewarded.
They have always posed a lot. That snake dance was tons of standing and posing.
