Of the top 10, Sandrine and Nicole de Rosa (ITA) are already Jr eligible, and Alicia Lengyelova (SVK) and Varvara Abramkina (CYP) turn Jr eligible next season. The rest turn Jr eligible the season after, as far as I can tell, with the exception of Lia, who turns Junior in 2026/27.
If I am totally honest, I think I would prefer Varvara to get another season under her belt before she moves up to Juniors. Get some more experience of competing in international fields.
This season was Varvara's first season competing in international events. Last season, she only competed once, at a domestic event in Bulgaria. And before last season, she had never competed outside of Moscow. So, she is still very new to this.
As I said earlier in this thread, it is not the trend for skaters representing Cyprus to move up to a higher level as soon as they become eligible. The only skater I can think of that did do that was Marilena Kitromilis, who went into Senior level as soon as she was eligible. The trend is to stay at the level until you age out of it. Which Marilena also did, because she moved up from Novice level when she aged out of it.
(For those that didn't notice it at the time, Marilena completely skipped Junior level, going straight from Novice level to Senior level. Which is why I was in favour of the age rules being adjusted, so as to prevent this. That said, I don't think the ISU have got it just right; they still need some tweaking. But this is not the place to discuss that).
That said, if Varvara did move up to Juniors next season, it would make for an intersting dynamic. Stefania Yakovleva has never had to contend with having a younger skater challenging her for assignments. Whenever Stefania had competition in the past, she was the younger skater. It would be interesting to see how Stefania got on with taking on the role of older, more experienced skater. And then how she copes with reverting to the younger skater role when she moves up to Seniors against her very close friend Marilena.
Plus, Varvara and Stefania up against each other would be the latest instalment of the old Moscow-St. Petersburg rivalry...
