The rule is you are not allowed to create a Fan Fest profile for a skater until they are at least 13. And I posted the profile on her 13th birthday.

Skaters representing Cyprus don't tend to move up to the next level as soon as they become eligible, like skaters in other countries do. They tend to stay at the lower level until they age out of it.

fair enough... you must have a lot of retired children that never made it to senior.. anyway... moving on... :)

Yep. That's the beartbreaking part, you follow these skaters for years in Novices and Juniors, watching them improve and progress, and then they retire before even reaching Senior level. But, education is important, so I don't hold it against them for concentrating on that.

I'm actually "adopting" a new skater this week. She is competing here at the Triglav Trophy, in what will be her first international competition at Junior level (the last time she competed internationally was at Basic Novice A level, which in itself shows how long ago it was). The irony is that she is 19, and so will be ageing out of Juniors in a few weeks time!

And to finish off our Cubs triple-bill, and our girls double-bill, we have the older girls. 35 girls, arranged into five groups of 7. (To my surprise, according to the Time Schedule PDF, there are no resurfacings planned during this segment).

And that is where we leave the Narcisa Cup for today. The rest of the day is spent with the Advanced Novices in the Triglav Trophy. It was supposed to be a group of 3 boys; followed by 53 girls. But the first boy has withdrawn.

I’m following the live scores, as I’m working. They are in the middle of group 3 (Lia’s group) out of 7 groups. Will see her results in around 10 minutes. Hoping for 50+.

Ksenia K 🇨🇦 leads with 42.73 so far just ahead of a skater from Croatia 🇭🇷 (42.47). Close result.

Can anyone tell me what happens with Lia a Cho?
1) 47.17 (TES: 28.81 and PCS: 18.36)
Normally, she scores around 29 TES and 20 PCS nationally. Then, gets four bonus points. I’m assuming no bonus points at this competition. So, I think she skated cleanish. Maybe, an under rotation call or edge call.

Wow that's amazing. And to think she is only 11 years old. I hope after this competition she takes a break and just does kid stuff for the summer as she is a long ways from reaching senior age eligibility though technically.....

Scott Davis does a good job with her.
Lia seems very well grounded with bringing her stuffies to her events, etc.
She still acts like a kid and doesn’t seem to be under any stress during her competitions, at least Nationally.

She isn’t eligible for Juniors till the season after the Olympics. And if if the rules remain the same, she isn’t eligible for the Olympics till 2034 😞

Does she still have the same short program? And what elements did she do?

Just to offer some context for scores in Advanced Novices internationally, because I assume most people don't usually watch competitions at this level:
  • Required elements: 1A or 2A, double or triple jump, jump combination consisting of two doubles or one triple and one double jumps, layback or sit spin, spin combination, step combination
  • Bonuses: maximum of 2 bonus points for the SP, one for a 2A and the other one for a triple jump. Jumps only receive a bonus if they are not called <, <<, e, they also have to be landed and a valid element (For example, a 3Lz<+3T would not receive any bonuses, because the 3Lz is under and the 3T is invalid (3-3 combination is not allowed in the Short)).
  • Deductions: 0.5 per fall

  • Only two female skaters have ever achieved over 50 points in the SP internationally as Advanced Novices - Mao Shimada in 2022 at the age of 13 and 5 months and Alysa Liu in 2018 at 12, just a few days shy of her 13th birthday.
  • Over 40 is generally a solid score in the SP in Advanced Novices (before this competition, 26 skaters achieved that score this season so far), and anything over 45 is very good (before this competition, 6 skaters managed to score above 45 points this season).

Of the top 10, Sandrine and Nicole de Rosa (ITA) are already Jr eligible, and Alicia Lengyelova (SVK) and Varvara Abramkina (CYP) turn Jr eligible next season. The rest turn Jr eligible the season after, as far as I can tell, with the exception of Lia, who turns Junior in 2026/27.

Wow! This finished a LOT later than scheduled. The day was supposed to be finished 45 minutes before the final skater's scores came up! And that is even with 8 of the skaters due to skate today withdrawing! :drama:

Did something happen earlier in the day? Ice problems necessitating extra resurfacings? Or did the organisers just plain underestimate how long it would take to get through the eight competitions.

Well, at least the Advanced Novices aren't back until tomorrow afternoon. So, the late finish shouldn't have any impact on their preparations for the FS.

4/7 groups done. Canada in first and second, so far!! Go Canada 🇨🇦

@CaroLiza_fan The girl from Cyprus did really well… in fourth place

:cheer:

Varvara ended up in 9th out of 49. But, I'm delighted, because she had a very quick turnaround after competing at the Black Sea Ice Cup in Bulgaria at the weekend. And although she was 2nd in both segments and overall, she had a disaster of a Free Skate on Sunday. So, I was worried that it might be praying on her mind.

True, her score today is a good bit lower than she got on Saturday (41.70 points), but it is only 0.81 points lower than her second highest SP score from the Sofia Trophy earlier in the season. And she is only 1 position and 0.39 points behind another skater that I rate, Alica LENGYELOVA (SVK).

Hope she has a good Free Skate tomorrow.
