2024 Championnats Québécois d'été | Aug 8-11

Edrian has a new program to gladiator.

He started with a HUGE 3t (2t) but I think it's a place holder for the 4t.
He went with a HUGE 1a.... so yeah, 3a pop...

After that, he was a bit lost at times but what he did well, he did very well... .some more pops or hesitation. At one point, he was setting up for a jump, probably a lutz, and he didn't do it. He turned around and did a 3t...

So probably still learning his new program. The costume is gorgeous though (and so is Edrian).

Glad he is back skating for Canada. It will make Quebec sectionals more fun with him and Anthony and soon, Eddy. All Yvan boys. Hopefully they can all push each other up and they all get their 3a solid with some quads too. It's been a while since Quebec had men landing things (my adored Joseph Phan and Nic Nadeau)

Edrian 113, 183 total.
Hmmm, he needs to be better than that after wasting his time representing Philippines when you people are expecting the PH fed to bring financial support Celestino where the said fed didn't have the financial capacity to do it let alone asking the government to fund him yet no avail.

If you observe with Carlos Yulo that the certain individuals such as GAP President Cynthia Carrion (who saw Caloy's potential from the start & is willing to fight for him) and Manny V. Pangilinan (who provide the needed financial support at his crucial stage of development) which these two have certain flaws but nonetheless gets the job done than the whole Philippine Government would do in regards to sports.

He had a good 3A attempt in the short and looked thrilled to be competing there. If he was happy with how he did there, that's what I care about.

@saine echoed my thoughts... but to be more precise, Edrian skating for the PH and Edrian skating for Canada are two different things.

Skating for the PH means that he probably was hoping to get more international outings. He certainly did compared to if he had stayed in Canada. For instance, 4CC is out of reach for him.

Skating for Canada is probably about making it to Nationals... and wait for it... this year, it's 15 minutes away or so from his home club...

One of my faves, not competing here but who will be at SGÉ next month... Antoine Goyette : superb skating style.. no jumps. His goal every year, just make it to Nationals. Being in the top 18 or so in Canada is a huge achievement for most and the one they are hoping for.

Edrian can still stabilize his jumps and contend even for a top 8-10 at Nationals. But in the end, I am just happy to see him skate and clearly, he seems very happy with his very early outing so that means everything.

Honestly that despite of he skating for the Philippines for more international outing that does not mean he get should be comfortable with it. I mean, where's the progress that he got from Yvan which you've boast? I didn't felt it that much as in he's going back to square one again plus he change coaches within the Montreal area along with the Covid lockdown that didn't help him either. He could have use a portion of the funds that was given to him while he was in Canada in his earlier years the needed training (ideally outside of Montreal) to improve the tech content especially with off season training yet he didn't.

About Goyette, the thing is that I want everything from a skater as in everything from the skating skills up to the jumps. It felt incomplete on my part when focusing on Skating Skills alone and that's what I genuinely felt with Edrian as a skater.

He needs more than stabilize his jumps but needs to be confident and comfortable with the layout which he didn't skated what he meant it.

BTW I like my opinion better 😉.

He needs to be better than that as he to play catch up to make up with lost time that he wasted. He needs certain specialists to address his tech issues since he is now representing Canada now. There's no way that Yvan can do it by himself.

Right away he is attempting the 3a and looks like he will be also doing 4t.

You keep mentioning this but the reality is that we don't know the details and the opportunities skaters have. Why would anyone who lives near a good coach and has very limited funding, move across the country in the hope that another coach will be better... Did Ravi fix Conrad? Yes, to a certain point, but not enough... Can Orser fix everyone ?? Definitely not. Looking at what Yvan did with both Nic and Jo, and now Eddy, Anthony etc, I will keep boasting.

Do you even know Goyette ? I used him to illustrate that most skaters are not there to become Nathan Chen... Many know their limitations and that's all fine for them. Do you train in any sport ? Loving the sport and loving competing in that sport is what motivates athletes. Most will not reach the top but still train. Look at Gabby Daleman, world medalist, Olympic champion, injuries... and now she's back and fist pumped after her program that only had a couple 3t and a 3s. She's there for what ? Not to beat Sakamoto. She's there because she loves her sport.

Like every skater out there. I was at worlds this year... can you imagine, two times world Champion Shoma Uno couldn't jump at all in the entire warm up... and barely managed to save a couple jumps during his LP.. Yet, he was stellar during the SP. Words are easy.
BTW I like my opinion better 😉.
And that's fine with me.

Yvan is one of the best jump coaches in Canada. The problem with Edrian is that he is in his mid-twenties already and had a few seasons where he seemed to be relatively less involved (covid, might be injuries or whatever) ... but please, stop blaming Yvan for things he is not responsible for. Edrian just moved to him recently. I'd be curious to see if there is really such a miraculous option right there... like you imply there is... Should Edrian move to Raf ? :) Look what it did with Gogolev.

Now, I will end with this : this is the best early summer competition for Edrian in a long time. There was a lot of positive in his skating. It's a question of perception of course... but as you said ;)

I like my opinion better ;)

Where is Yvan's credentials as a jump coach? I didn't see it while doing research in the internet which what I can only saw his awards as Level 5 National Coaching Certification Program in August 2015 and Skate Canada Competitive Coach Award of Excellence in 2016 and there's no way for me to get access of Yvan's training. If Yvan's one of best jump coaches in Canada, why is Edrian move to him way too late or why Edrian clings to Daniel Beland for too long before he changes coaches for the wrong timing.

About Gogolev, there's a discussion that a number of users have left wondering why Borser train Stephen quads (especially 4Lz) at a relative early age which TCC is a finishing school. It would've been better if he let it wait to grow to retrain him again when he was in full height. It would be nice if Edrian can train with Raf during off season but in his situation that what he needs is Michael Huth since another site users mention that he's good at peaking skaters at a later time such as Lukas whom he is a late bloomer.

Yvan needs to finds better ways in Edrian's case which he can get Ravi as an Advisor because I wasn't pretty convinced and he's going to be accountable if there's not much progress. Or the responsibility goes to Edrian himself if he does not want to go out of his comfort zone.

I like my opinion better ;)

I'm sure about the 3A but not convince with the 4T

I'll doing the roasting with gladness. Yvan is going in trouble in my books if Edrain didn't progress on a technical level. I'll be concern with the Paradis.

Love the sport seems nice but feels lacking, I'm too picky with skaters. I root for a certain skater that has this certain pull to me (I prefer the small fed skater who are willing to fight against big fed skaters that shook the order.)

That's the beauty of it, one will rise (Adam Siao) and one will fall (Shoma).

watch videos of jo and nic pre when they were in juniors and earlier years of senior before injuries (jo got injured at TCC btw.)

Here

i wanted to show you Jo's junior world s3rd place in the FS... but i cannot find it.

re the late move to yvan... simple. Edrian did very well as a junior and transitioned well from dance to singles. Maybe he thought he was in the best environment at that time. Skaters are human. Some like stability in their environment. For instance, Max would not relocate when Marcotte moved to Ontario and he preferred staying in Montreal with Josée. Sometimes, fans need to forget a bit about their own perspective and think that these skaters also have to make tough decisions for themselves. Finally, Yvan really started to make a name for himself in the last decade. Daniel Béland is from another generation.

Edrian was trying 4Ts way before 3a before covid.. Saw it with my own eyes, live at CQÉ. So you can trust me about this or not.

Edrian is already more secure.

I'll be concern with the Paradis.
Anthony was solid enough before he injured himself and won junior Nationals. He is still on the recovery path, yet he also attempts 3a now. Eddy also won junior Nationals with solid jumping.

Good that skaters are not too picky with us, fans.
I root for a certain skater that has this certain pull to me (I prefer the small fed skater who are willing to fight against big fed skaters that shook the order.)
I don't care about feds. It's meaningless to me but YMMV.

IJBOL!!!!!! I kinda laugh when you said it, meaning that it's Edrian's fault all along for not progressing to the next level. I laugh to the fact that you've pointing this out there why. I agree that skaters are human but other unfortunate souls have to pay the price dearly for the long run (I guess that the another site users are right with Tammy Gambil). Same application with Edrian which he's going to have a hard time play catch up. (perhaps some whippings that will make him motivated or scare him off to do better with the technical side of skating) ;)

I didn't say anything like that. What I said is that Edrian made his choices which he thought were the good ones for him. He could have chosen to go somewhere else and it wouldn't have worked out any better. Nobody can tell.

Please do not put words in my mouth. That's actually not conducive to good discussions.

And again, where did you see that Edrian wanted to catch up? and Catch up to whom? to what? and no... whipping is not something that anyone should wish to a skater.

I am done with this discussion. Clearly we have very different views on figure skating and the trajectory of Edrian Celestino. That's fine but at one point, it's best to just drop the conversation not to burden this thread.

I'm not convinced with the 4T with the same old same old (I remember that you've mention that he made that attempt like a few seasons ago but didn't show it up ever since)

I wasn't sure with the solid jumping per se from Yvan so I have to wait and see as it progresses which they are fortunate that they're young unlike Edrian.
I don't care about feds. It's meaningless to me but YMMV.
If you don't care about feds, why are you so worked up with I've pointed out the weaknesses to Canadian Skaters (Edrian included) in good portion?

I suspect that Edrian is probably close to his personal ceiling already and that he is unlikely to progress much further with any coach. Having a top coach does not in itself make someone a top skater.

You are not pointing out anything Canadian fans aren't already aware of.

I have been following Edrian since Junior years. He represented Canada then. I liked him because of his skating skills and his performance flair. When he moved to represent The PH, I still rooted for him. So, nope, I don't care about feds, I like skaters. Do I know more about Canadian skaters ? Yes I do. I go to small summer events in Canada. I attend Nationals. Etc. I watch the live streaming as well... and of course, I celebrate their successes and cheer for them in the hard times. You are the one who said that you were cheering for "small feds" skaters. So maybe, you don't like Edrian anymore because he is back to representing a big fed. Up to you. I don't like a skater just because they come from a small fed myself. I like skaters when they impress me one way or another.

I agree with this very much. His best element, even in juniors was his 3lz-3t. He is pretty close to a 4t and a 3a but i don't see him adding anything else really, if he did manage these two elements, I'd be very thrilled for him.

Here's Edrian 4t attempt.

I mean did he think about it in the earlier days when he has yet to get his 3A while he was with Beland? It's a sign that he needs to change better coaches to address with his issues but then he shrugs it off and paid the price.
Please do not put words in my mouth. That's actually not conducive to good discussions.
I will gladly to put it back to you when the time comes when things are not according to plan as you mention with Yvan.
And again, where did you see that Edrian wanted to catch up? and Catch up to whom? to what? and no... whipping is not something that anyone should wish to a skater.
Edrian needs to catch in a technical aspect, sure the PCS are nice but needs to play catch up with the tech content if he wants to get in Worlds but he ends up with nothing plus he'll go back to square one with the new TES minimum has been rolled out which at least 2 Successful 2 3A along with some tweakings with the tech layout. Honestly I do care about Edrian and nothing wrong with tough love.

Edrian is unlikely to make it to Worlds regardless of which Fed he represents or who his coach is. All skaters have limits to what it is technically possible for them to achieve; it's just some have a higher ceiling than others. No amount of coaching would give him the technical skills of skaters like Shoma Uno or Ilia Malinin. What matters is that Edrian achieves what he as an individual is capable of and can take satisfaction from doing so. Having a technical ceiling which is below that needed for the World TES does not make him a failure. If the benchmark for success is being in the top 30-35 in the world at something, almost all people are failures at what they do.
