2024-25 Japanese Pairs and Ice Dance

Do we know what music Sara KISHIMOTO / Atsuhiko TAMURA are skating to this year?
Their ISU bio has last years music

4 Senior ice dance, 5 Junior ice dance entries to Eastern Sectionals.
2 Senior pairs, 1 Junior pairs entries to Western Sectionals.

Miyu YUNOKI team up with Tristan TAYLOR from Canada.
Well.. that's fine but if it's anything like Mervin Tran, he will never get citizenship and that team will never be allowed to skate in some events, like the Olympics.. Of course, they may never get to that level.. but yeah.. I don't understand why, with all the talent Japan has, they do not just take some of their own less "advanced" jumpers/taller skaters... instead of making teams that have no chance ever of getting citizenship

I mean, it's not like this is a common occurrence in Japanese pairs skating? All of the other three active pairs are fully Japanese, and so was Miyu's last partnership.

Miyu has been looking for a new partner for two years, and even the Japanese male skaters who might be open to trying pairs might prefer a skater with higher-difficulty jumps - Miyu doesn't have much more than a 3T, maybe a 3S if she can land it still (she hasn't tried it in competition since 2021). Miyu herself might want a partner who is more experienced in pairs, as any of her partnerships will rely on the quality of pairs elements, not sbs jumps. Or maybe, they just by chance were training at the same location and looking for a partner at the same time, gave it a try and found they were a good match.

I was checking the BC/YT Section Super Series August entries (here, current as of July 3 8:15 AM PT), and they have a Mia Kuneshita from Meiji Jingu Gaien FSC listed for Senior Ice Dance. No partners are listed in the entries.

Mia Kuneshita is tagged in this Instagram picture from Vancouver Ice Dance Academy. Alec Roueche is tagged as well. He previously skated with Chloe Nguyen in Canada, and was born in Wakayama, Japan. They may be a new team for Japan.
They're one of the Senior Ice Dance teams on the entry list for Eastern Sectionals :)

They debuted at BC/YT Section Super Series in August, their programs can be found here:

According to his ISU bio, Alec has a Japanese name (Seiya)? He also looks like he might have Japanese parentage (maybe his mum?). So he might be able to skate for Japan.

9th Asian Winter Games assignments:

Pairs:
Yuna Nagaoka/Sumitada Moriguchi
Sae Shimizu/ Lucas Tsuyoshi Honda

Ice Dance:
TBD

This competition is a week before 4CC. I think RikuRyu is going there instead also Yoshida/Morita.
Riku and Ryuichi may go to Road to 26 Trophy (formally named Milano Cortina Trophy) that is an Olympics test event. It is going to be held in the same week as 4CC.
The event was not included in the ISU event calendar in the beginning of the season.
Soon after it was added to the ISU event calendar, it was also added the JSF event calendar.

My guess is YunaSumi will go to Asian Winter Games in China and 4CC in South Korea and SaeLuca will do Asian Winter Games and Junior Worlds.

The results of ice dance national qualifiers

Junior Ice Dance
1. Sara Kishimoto / Atsuhiko Tamura 144.37
2. Sumire Yoshida / Ibuki Ogahara 132.69
3. Ayumi Shibayama / Tomoki Kimura 131.93
4. Kaho Yamashita / Yuto Nagata 128.95
5. Mihana Nakajima / Eisuke Kumano 99.38

Ayumi/Tomoki were a pleasant surprise because they were not even ready for JGP just two months ago. I want to praise Cathy. She must have been very busy teaching three teams.
I'm not sure if Ayumi/Tomoki would get scores at an international competition as high as this time though because their BVs are low with no Y in PD. It's clear JSF judges like them.
Sumire/Ibuki, Ayumi/Tomoki and Kaho/Yuto are at the same level, and the mistakes on the twizzles in RD costed a medal on Kaho/Yuto.

Senior Ice Dance
1. Utana Yoshida / Masaya Morita 174.47
2. Azusa Tanaka / Shingo Nishiyama 163.99
3. Ayano Sasaki / Yoshimitsu Ikeda 133.83
4. Mia Kuneshita / Seiya Alec Roueche 103.06

Azusa is still feeling pain from the fracture in her rib she got last summer and she and Shingo haven't been able to train much. They even thought about withdrawing.
