2025 Four Continents Women's Free Skate

4CC agree had some top skaters pulling out of the gala due to illness. Some bug going around. The US women figure skating team do look strong - all have gotten stronger as the season progressed. Even though Isabeau was reigning silver world champion, she will not be able to compete with on the same level as C. Kim of Korea. Her triple triple combination still looks shady
If it was norovirus, Lord help them. I have had it 4 times. 18 hours of misery. And it spreads like wildfire. 3 virus on a fork is all it takes, and you are shedding virus for a week after you wake up from passing out. Hand sanitizer doesnt work very well on it either.:frown:

Anyone feel a bit sad? I saw a short English interview with Hae-in a few days ago and I know her fan sites say she is injured....she was polite and reserved, basically saying she was happy to skate and was happy to be with her friends....Then we see Chaeyeon after her skate and in the Kiss and Cry...She seldom seems to smile and be joyful.....am I missing something?

Again, I think a fair podium. Kim was strong and deserved gold. I am thrilled for Bradie. Not crazy about Nessun Dorma war horse but she made the best of it and landed her jumps. I really hope she can find a LP next year that better suits her personality and expression. Sarah Everhart certainly epitomized the Firebird- feisty and precise. I just find her technique and expression so mechanical. Alyssa was my favorite with her effervescent joy so evident in her performance. I am hoping for a top 5 finish for Alyssa at Worlds.

It motivates people to do better - I see nothing wrong with that.
Then why not start punishing for excessive pre rotation on takeoff too? The idea of the q is not so bad. But its impossible to accurately guage, so its too open to manipulation by the judges.

I feel for C. Kim - she must of been under so much pressure to win after just competing at AWG.

She mentioned in her interview that she had a small pain in her left thigh by the end of her program, so that she was unable to respond to her scores but she was really happy.

I agree with you, but she has pretty much always been like that....I hope she is not a sad person...even much of her music seems sad to me ("Everybody knows") I first noticed it watching her live at 4CCs Colorado Springs 2023...I should have asked my Korean seat buddies then.

Sarah needs to study Mone for how to project artistry to the back row, using facial expression and body movement.

Agree. And because this Worlds determines Olympic entries for 2026, the USFS should be looking to maximize their chances that their highest two ladies' placements at Worlds can fall within the magic X + Y </= 13 formula. And not to keep a recovering-from-injury and undertrained competitor on the assignment list merely because of tradition or overweighting of her status as last years World silver medalist. Isabeau's longstanding technique problems and how this is finally catching up with her with tech/judging panels, are another topic entirely.
We all saw this coming. We've talked about her technical issues since she burst on the scene. Her posture and rotation problems have to be addressed if she is ever to make an Olympic Podium.

That’s not the way the US system works.
Exactly right!

I'm puzzled by why some fans keep advising what USFS "should" do, when the protocols are spelled out clearly ahead of time.

C. Kim has better programs than Kaori and she doesn’t take any breaks in between her jumps like Amber does.

Amber's way seems smart to me. Also, it makes a much more interesting program to have beautiful connecting movement and emotion and musical responsiveness, rather than jump after jump after jump. After the men's and women's free skates here, I am very weary of jump after jump after jump.

Thank you Jimmy Ma. What a class act - remembering your fellow skaters from Boston club - I’m sure they were like Guardian Angels guiding you to that medal performance. I hope USFS will reconsider World team and put you on along with Andrew and Ilian.

Well who the hell is going with Ilia and Andrew?

Maybe she need more ballet for develop corporal expression I think. Also I noticed that Mone express a lot more and sometimes is like become the main character of the theme of her program , for me Mone isn’t the typical Japanese figure skater and is virtuous.

I would like to know when Jason Brown has to exhibit his readiness for the return to play protocol? Camden is first alternate and I have to say 4CC only gives me more certainty in having more faith in Brown than Pulkinen. Camden’s total score at 4CC would have earned him 21st at last season’s Worlds.

Sadly, I and others here agree with you. Though her posture issues have improved a bit, they are still very annoying to me.

In 2024 Brown got 218.75 at Skate Canada and 229.09 at NHK. And that's not even recent. Jimmy Ma just won Bronze at 4CC with 245.01.

Ugh...we can add Tara Prasad to the list of ill skaters.
