When you're reading a biography of Chopin for your thesis, and you immediately try to find out more informations about the episode when Chopin once tried to ice skate in Warsaw with his friends, even if it's absolutely off topic...
You got me curious too! So I went hunting.
I don't know if you have found out anything more detailed, but the The Fryderyk Chopin Institute website seems to have a good account of the story:

I was surprised to see a Norwegian option, but it turned out that it just re-directed to the English version.
It just shows how lucky we are to have proper maintained rinks nowadays. What young Freddie was doing sounded so dangerous. He was lucky to get away with the injuries he did.
Useless piece of information: When I fall off this mortal coil, I want Chopin's "Prelude in C minor, Opus 28, Number 20" to be played at my funeral. And Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" as well.

...when you watch the film "Beneath The 12-Mile Reef" (1953) about rival sponge fishermen from the Greek and English communities in Florida. And Robert Wagner's character (Greek) asks Terry Moore's character (English) where she lives. (He actually wanted to see her Dad about something. But, I bet he would have wanted to know anyway. She's stunning! ) And she replies "Over on Frangipani Street". And you instantly go "Eh?!"
It's a pity that Gabriele is only an alternate for Senior Worlds, being held on up the coast in Massachusettes. Watching this film a week beforehand and hearing that street name could have been a sign that he was going to do well.

...when you are watching the lead-in to the Chinese Formula 1 Grand Prix, and Martin Brundle has about 30 seconds to fill at the end of his Grid Walk before the national anthem, so he decides to do a "Marty's Random Person". And the person he chooses as his random person is the trackside DJ. And as soon as you see her, you go "Hello Kaitlin!"
But, it was clear that Martin or the people in the gallery at Sky Sports hadn't a clue who she was. That this DJ was actually a former Four Continents Champion and Junior World Champion in Ice Dance.
Normally when there are famous sportspeople on the grid, they have Martin all briefed about them. Even if they are not British. But not this time. And you would have thought they would have, given that Kaitlin Hawayek's long time skating partner (with whom she won those titles), Jean-Luc Baker, is British. It just goes to show how obscure a sport figure skating is in the British Isles nowadays.
The best bit was that Kaitlin didn't let on that she was anything more than a just a normal person.
Very classy, Miss Hawayek. Very classy.

You read a piece in your Facebook feed about a Chinese peasant in the 3rd century BC who was supposed to escort a group of prisoners somewhere and several escaped. This would have been a death sentence for him, so he freed all the other prisoners, formed them into a guerilla group and started a revolution that toppled the current dynasty. He ended up as Emperor. Someone comments that the story would make a great movie, and you immediately think "and a lot of skaters will be using its sound track for programs".
