You Know You're a Figure Skating Fan When...

...when you look up the results of today's skating, and find that your favourite skater is leading after the SP. And you punch the air and shout "YES!!!!!!" so loud that I am sure she could hear me, even with being roughly 2,000 miles away!

Just a wee update to let you know that I just did the same again there now, because...

...SHE'S WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🥇

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

[Edited to remove name, in case anybody is trying to avoid spoilers].

Now I want to know who was she? Ain't even an offtopic - such desires are a sign of being a fan :laugh4:

Well, I probably should have said my favourite skater that is still competing. Because my username gives away who my favourite skaters are, full stop.

I'm talking about one of my kids. (I know you shouldn't have a favourite amongst your kids, but everybody does!) And although I had a few kids competing at the Black Sea Ice Cup, there was only one in Seniors. ;)

The reason I came in here was actually to write my reports for the Fan Fests. So, I'll get to that now.

Hey, I suppose that is another sign you are a fan. That you go to the bother of writing reports about how skaters got on.

Spring is here and soon everyone will wear animal prints again, which I always compare with skaters wearing them. Some costumes I'd like to forget, still waiting for a good zebra print costume for example. But I did see zebra print leggings last year which actually looked nice. I did like some costumes with a leopard or a tiger print. I didn't really mind the giraffe print in the 90s either, it blended well with the rest of the costume. Hm, I haven't seen people wearing giraffe prints in the streets though.

 Stephane Lambiel's black, white, orange and blue Zebra costume is in the official Olympic Museum. (The program was supposed to represent an African zebra experiencing the delight of snow for the first time. :) )

Not sure about Ilia Kulik's giraffe shirt, though.

OK, you made me look up PCS.

Pelvic Congestion Syndrome. Post Concussion Syndrome, Post COVID Syndrome, Pectoral Catch Syndrome, I hope no figure skater has any of these!
The answer actually referred to "PCs" i.e., computers that aren't Macs. I take it that you're a Mac user? 😁

I always write crossword puzzle answers in all caps for convenience's sake; a lower-case letter in a horizontal clue could easily refer to an upper-case letter in the vertical clue for the same box. It's not every day when you see the case of a letter change the meaning of a word so much... (I can think of "Catholic" and "catholic" off of the top of my head)

The classical music station announced their theme for the public-voted top 100 for 2025, it is simply 'Piano' 🎹 and your thoughts immediately go the Chopin and then other favourite skating programs... and you only have 10 votes :scratch2::tantrum:

When a song that was in FS:FD,RD or SP of a figure skater or ice dancer i like it, without notice it become a song more in your YouTube music or Spotify playlist or look for a album on CD where is that song (I prefer audio cd over streaming because sound quality and that little sound detail that makes difference)

...when you watch the film "The Castle" (2020), which is about a young Lithuanian girl, Monika, who is living in Dublin. And while watching, you can't help but think of the Lithuanian skater you have adopted on here, Aleksandra Golovkina.

And then during one scene, you hear Claude Debussy's "Clair De Lune". And you think "Aleksandra skated to that piece when she was Monika's age":

Aleksandra Golovkina - 2012 Kaunas Ice Spring Cup SP

To be fair, I think of Aleksandra every time I hear "Clair De Lune".

The version heard in the film was a piano version. Not too dissimilar to what you hear at the start of this SP that Aleksandra skated over a decade later:

Aleksandra Golovkina - 2024 Ephesus Cup SP

If you can understand Lithuanian, or don't mind watching something with subtitles on the screen for the whole film, I would recommend "The Castle". It was very eye-opening.

Plus, it was nice seeing places you knew! ;)

That was beautiful, especially the spins.

Yeah, Aleksandra's spins have always been really beautiful.

When she gets them, her jumps are beautiful too. But, unfortunately, it is very rare for her to have a programme where she doesn't fall on at least one of her jumps..

Here's another.

Beautiful. Just beautiful.

She's still got it!!!

I don't care what anybody else thinks, I still say Carolina could make a comeback this season. Especially for her home Olympics.

Hey, the last time Kostner competed was more recently than the last time the Shibutanis competed... ;)

The last competition for the Shibs was at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics. Carolina continued on to Senior Worlds a month later. Which were held in the same arena in Assago that the 2026 Olympics will be held in... 🤔

Just try to tell me that the stars are not all aligned for it to happen!
