2025 Cranberry Cup Junior Women Short Program

I really liked this program at NextGen, and I still like it here. Shame the 3T+3T didn't work out, but the Loop was a bit better (still under, though).
Camila is a good example of a skater who, while not fully there yet, is clearly making an effort to point her toes and use her legs fully. I worry the wobble on the ending slide could be counted as a fall (would not be the first time).

Jiaying Ellyse JOHNSON USA 54.04 - into 2nd

Notes:
Jiayinghas been one of my favorite American juniors for a hot minute. She's polished, elegant, and has beautiful air position. It did seem like URs got to her today, but she's still one of the most beautiful skaters to watch in this field, imho. Definitely seems like she should rethink the Rippon lutz, though -- it looked like it threw her off, which made the 3T a little squirrelly, so maybe putting the cart before the horse a bit...I'm reminded of the late (retired) great (I weep) Vivian Le, who had the same issue.

Incredible that Jiaying got a (albeit underrotated) 3T out of a very underrotated, uncomfortable landing on the 3Lz. I like the open-armed twizzle. Good skating skills.

Seriously, I was STUNNED she pulled that off. I was expecting a double, but also, girl, pleeeease ditch the arm variation, I'm scared :dbana:

It especially worries me because she's such a quality skater and I really want her to go clean so she'll get more international assignments! I don't feel like the possible bonus points are worth potentially losing out on a JGP slot.

Hetty SHI CAN 43.02

Music: "Historia de Un Amor" (don't know the artist, but female cover)

Tech:
3F (fall)
2A (out of spread eagle, lovely!)
CCoSp (wobbly change of position)
3Lo (out of spiral transition)
Must've blanked on a spin here?

Notes:
Another skater who looks like she shot up like a weed over the summer. I feel old...
Hetty is another very polished skater with some fantastic qualities, so it's a shame this wasn't her cleanest skate. This music called for a little more intensity than I thought the choreography of this program delivered, but with time and confidence, I can see it growing into something really memorable with a bit more speed and attack.

Not a good day for the Canadian Junior girls' combos so far. But the Loop was better than at NextGen. Hetty has a lot of beautiful qualities in her skating, but the jumps aren't very kind to her and haven't been for a while, unfortunately

Reese ROSE CAN 56.60 - into 2nd

Music: "The Dog Days Are Over" by Florence and the Machine

Tech:
3T-3T<
An ad played here :/ not sure if I missed anything?

Notes:
First skater yet with the speed that I've been wanting to see from all of these girls. This is my first time watching Reese, but she's a very dynamic skater, which I really enjoy, and this was good music for someone with the speed and bounce in her knees that Reese evidently has. Very promising!

Somebody threw her a bag of plush Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, aww :')

I'm so impressed yall can keep up with Junior Ladies. I cannot.

Good job Reese!!!
She may squeak in for a JGP spot. She just has to not completely fall apart in the free skate, like she did at Next Gen.
I think they may have assigned Victoria and Ksenia two spots already. Which means, two spots may be up for grabs here.

Nathalie Yonemori AUSTRIA 51.35 - into 4th

Music: Moonlight Sonata

Tech:
3F-2T (I've never seen this exact flavor of delayed rotation before, fascinating...)
3Lo
LSp
2A (tight landing)
StSq
CCoSp
FSSp

Notes:
Ohh, absolutely stunning dress. Nathalie is a really striking skater with nice lines and a really unusual way of delaying rotation that I'm not entirely sure how to describe, but the entire time I wanted her to speed up :dbana: She has nice movement quality and seemed less plagued by URs than most of the girls who came before, but needs speed.
