I always thought Lawrence was one of the best ice dancers in the world. I found her previous partnership difficult to watch because she was so much better than her partner in every way. In this case, Cizeron is obviously an equally strong skater. However, I think the fact that she has to adapt to his style because he really wouldn't be capable of adapting to hers shows who is a stronger dancer if not skater. I don't think they have any magic or connection yet but they do have strong skating skills. However, so do the Italians. So, I don't see the how the judges justify the huge difference in scores between those two teams. I don't really have any issue with the other scores here. Just very clear overscoring of the French and underscoring of the Italians. I would watch out for Barbara if I was one of those judges on the panel showing such a strong bias. This kind of judging also makes ice dance seem like more of a joke than an actual sport.

Exactly. I don't disagree with FB/C winning, how could they loose to F/G anyway. But how the hell G/F could be relegated that much? It's insane. They have experience, skating together forever, the didn't make mistakes, their skating skills are very strong. I didn't expect them to get PB here but why suddenly they are not event in the same league as F/G? I get it's their first competition and others already got some feedback and worked it off but still the difference is inexplicable to what I saw. Also, just seeing those GOEs for choreo elements in real time was very telling, they were low - not steps levels, not technical parts but freaking choreo stuff. It was clear right then where they were supposted to be ranked by judges.

I don’t see them saying Euros and GPF as being rude. It’s a sport, of course they are going to plan to be at the big comps.

It’s very frustrating when people are asked to be humble for the sake of others.

I’m sure if you ask any skater how they are planning this season they will all say with the Olympics in mind even if that’s a pipe dream.

Saying you are going to Euros that is a formally a selection process in the Fed is incredible rude to other teams in the Fed. You know at that point they wrote it they hadn´t had a single competition yet? If they had worded themselves "we hope to get a spot at Euros", that is something different, but that is not what they did - they wrote their whole competition schedule and placed in Euros in Sheffield as it was just the most natural things in the world like signing up for a Challenger.

I don´t know who wrote it, but I think I read it here at GS. The judges instead of making it so obvious, like very much home cook your own skaters, make deals behind doors with other judges for them to push forward certain skaters that is not under your country. I would think to not make it so obvious they would need to make a deal across some skaters so that there is no very clear pattern, maybe they even make deals in exchange for other competitions?

I hate to continue to derail this thread, but I just have to say this. It's obvious that neither Cizeron, nor Fournier-Beaudry herself are (consciously) supporting a SA, rather, they are supporting a friend and a lover who they very likely think is innocent. I am not saying that it's right, but their belief in a long time friend and partner/lover who to them has always been a good person is humanly understandable.

I think they could have chosen to support him in private and that would be fine. I think the obvious mistake they did was to go out and word it, - we support and believe Nikolaj, and somehow publicly taking a side here. If they had any good PR team they should have been adviced to not comment on the matter.

But you don’t sign up for challengers, you are assigned by your fed, just like euros.

Equally, I don’t think so.

Both have had results separately that blow their national competition out of the water. Plus, France has three spots for Euro, who would be delusional enough to believe they wouldn’t get one of the three.

It’s a sport. It’s like how Walsh/Michaud assumed they were getting an Olympic spot, guess what it does t work that way.

I am all for Chock and Bates finally getting some bonafide competition in ice dance since the judges and powers that be have clearly written the script that Gilles and Poirier will always be a solid second place to Chock and Bates first place, which I do not agree with at all. In no way do I want to see Madi and Evan have a cake walk to an Olympic gold medal in Italy. I just wish that Laurence and Guillaume could have come back in a similar manner to how Virtue and Moir came back in the 2017 season to make their run at the 2018 Olympic Games. Tessa and Scott really had to fight for their place and prove themselves, and they did that. They EARNED their place in Pyeongchang by competing in and winning the 2017 World Championships and earning the Olympic spot.

Laurence and Guillaume are stepping in as a brand new team that is not fully gelled or baked like a Tessa and Scott and are taking a spot away that was earned by Evgeniia and Geoffrey & Loicia and Theo at the 2025 Worlds. They have not EARNED their place and they together are not Olympic champions or Olympic medalists as a team yet, so it’s a real head scratcher why they are getting that caliber of scores in their first ever international event together as a team. It feels so many levels of wrong! It feels like they blatantly plagiarized their dissertation, literally copying every page of the P/C playbook, and are having everything easily handed to them and being swiftly moved to the head of the class, a diligently hardworking class that has had to toil for many years, and we as an audience and fanbase seem to be expected to just accept and go with it. This world is bullshit!

She never could have done a program like that with Sorensen, that’s for sure. She was always so above him in skill level.

Yesterday they wore the British flag to a British pop song, today it's Scotch tartan to Scotch pop? They are consistent!

I was actually rooting for Gabby and Guillaume to beat Tessa and Scott in 2018 and I always preferred the French over them. Still, they went about their comeback in the right way. I am still not a fan of this 11th hour comeback of F-B/C. I wasn’t happy when V/M won 2017 Worlds with a fall on a non-element in the FD, but P/C had the major error on a major element in the RD, so I think the overall ranking was still correct in that championship.

I think both Piper and Paul and Guinard/Fabri should be worried that IAM is going to push them both off the podium in favour of their teams. Piper and Paul will also face Fournier-Beaudry/Cizeron later in the GP.

I think Guinard/Fabri will still have some clout at a home Olympics (though losing here to Reed/Ambrulevicius is pretty brutal). But I thought scores here, with a major error on an element for Fournier-Beaudry/Cizeron in the RD, clearly shows they are a favourite, if not the favourite, of the judges for Olympic gold. With even a more minor error the scores indicate they would have won that RD. And that score in the FD is what teams usually get near the end of the season, not the beginning. I know this was their home GP, so some score inflation and favour could be expected, but this was beyond what I expected. And I say that as someone who's not really a fan of Guinard/Fabri and have found Fear/Gibson often overscored.
