2025 GP Finlandia Trophy Rhythm Dance

The scores and the shennanigans we are not seeing behind the scenes, there is a WHOLE lotta that going on. The half has not been told.
That what, the audience smelling funny????? 😲 :slink:

My post had nothing to do with the scores, so that's all I can assume you are suggesting.

The best explanation I've seen is on the Skating Session on YouTube. They showed that there was a way to get to a b, but it would involve the callers being extra picky and even then they weren't ask picky on the twizzles for others. They thought a level 1 was more appropriate.
Thank you GGFan. That was helpful in understanding the tech part and distressing about some of the other weirdness from the tech panel. I am worried that as a sport, ice dance is in real danger of not just not getting new fans but of turning us ā€œnonexpertā€ fans off this critical Olympic season. Figure skating can’t afford that.

Piper and Paul cannot control what happened here with the judging they were near perfect. French team didn't look perfect to me. some of the large countries are taking advantage that they're in Finland and their nitpicking anything they want just to get an advantage.

I'm hoping the Olympics will be a clean judging for the ice dance because it's very easy to play around with the marks, they know every trick in the book.

Some of the other teams got a very good marks congratulations. Congratulations to Spain, the second American team which looks like the future of ice dance in United States.

Exactly! I have seen plenty of dance teams over the years make the exact same error that Piper made on her twizzles and never once in my 34 years of watching have I seen any skater receive a BASE level on the twizzle sequence. I could see the case for her level dropping to a 3 or even a 2 if we’re being critical, but a base call was, well, baseless. The tech panel here clearly had an agenda against both F-B/C AND G/P.
You mean the two teams in First and Second place? If anything, the Canadians should have been in the lead, but if they were screwed over, they would be much lower.

Never would have imagined I would ever see anybody skating to "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred. Don't know the songs either side of it, but they weren't my taste at all.

If you are talking about Piper and Paul's music, the same song is at the start and the second half, it's "Supermodel" by RuPaul, waaaaaaaay before he was known for RuPaul's Drag Race.

.. anyone know what Natalie Taschlerova was upset about?
It was the wrong music track for their Rhythm dance.

How Filip Taschler described the situation:

It is taken from Twitter screenshots including:

It is really unbelievable that such situation can happen at Grand Prix event. The team corrected twice the situation and which track is right. Finally...they were still playing the wrong track...

Rhythm dance is not rhythm dance any more. It is just a short program with decade teams. I hardly never watch it on Tv or if do, I do other things at the same time. I know some people like it. I don't. I don't hate it, hate is too strong word, but I miss real rhythm themes. Well, skaters were quite creative with those themes, too, recently, so maybe it should be called just short dance?

I don't know why anyone is surprised by these levels? Same caller as Skate America and just like at that event almost everyone got level 1s on their steps. The calling has been very strict at the GPs except for the calling at GP France. Imho, the judging at GP France was much more problematic than this. At that event, the panel was clearly making an effort to drop certain teams. Here they were harsh to all. I think the changes to the way turns are being judged in combination with the BPM requirement is just too hard. So, the rules about turns need to be changed imho. But, the technical panel should enforce the rules as written, that's their job and Shawn Rettstatt like Shin Amano always does his job mercilessly.
I agree that it should be strict for everyone, however some calls are a bit crazy - Piper’s twizzles were not base. Maybe a level 1 or 2 but not base. And to totally invalidate the French ChSt when they have the order of elements for each team is crazy. Also Z/K were the only team to both get a level 2 on their midline.

The best of the horrendous Rhytme Dances was the one of Zingas/Kolesnik.
Actually the judges have been right. The overall quality of skating is less than desired in this level.

Thanks for finding the information. That must have been very frustrating for them. A good way not to have that happen is to make sure they pick up the wrong music so there is no chance of a mix up.
