Ice Dancing - Free Dance (Mon. Feb 22 - 16:45)

so no Gold for Russia? Wow, no gold for russia in figure skating at this olympics!!

Exactly the way it should've happened. V/M's score was overkill but in the end the number has no historical significance. In no way will I ever agree that tempo should be regulated.

I wish Belbin and Agosto would not retire, and they would find coaches who could help them reach their potential.
In the free dance, their skating was not as good as the top 2. The lifts of D/S and B/A were not as difficult.
I wonder if they felt crowded out with Schpilband's younger stars. They put ice dancing on the map for the US and I hope they will stay in the sport.

Tanith & Ben were shafted this whole competition. I so wish they never left Shpilband.....although they skated great, their costumes were a hot mess and the programs were dated. I hate to see them go out this way, althouh they were pure class when speaking to Andrea Joyce.

I think the gold/silver thing could have gone either way and both teams did great. I'm a bit upset that Meryl and Charlie didn't win, but they still skated amazingly and so did Virtue and Moir.

Not happy about Domnina/Shabalin's bronze, but oh well. My main issue is the rope things on their costumes shouldn't be allowed to be used as assistance during elements. That should be some sort of penalty. They do have talent. I'm not denying that. They're just not my preference. I didn't think their OD was that deserving of that much of a lead in front of Belbin and Agosto even though I didn't think Team Barbie/Elvis's skate wasn't all too exciting.

Sounds much better than Grade of Execution

Gah, that serves me right for typing two different things at once :)

D/S are an embarresment: I am Australian and Sephardic

Yes, YOU find them an embarrassment, I DON'T - see, personal. You don't speak for the whole of the figure skating watching public.

I'm English and a Roman Catholic with Irish and Scottish peasant ancestry, why should that make the slightest bit of difference?

Ice dancing has always been political to a degree but this result is ok. V&M skated beautifully and so did D&W. I felt B&A should have been third but there was no way they were going to keep the Russians off the podium with a clean skate because of all the recent flak.

My goodness D/S seemed so slow! B/A definitely should have been in 3rd. The fix was in.

*** WAS THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i totally agree with places 1 and 2, Tessa and Scott and Meryl and Charlie skated lights out, but what was that schlock that just scored over 100 points???????? i wouldve dropped them past Faiella/Scali, that sucked!!!!!!

Congrats to Virtue/Moir for their gold medal! And I'm happy for Davis/White getting the silver. I wish Belbin/Agosto would have gotten the bronze, but I understand. I thought Domnina/Shabalin were a bit overscored in the free, but I can actually see how they got the bronze over B/A.

Who would thunk it, can you believe it? I've watched figure skating avidly for 30 years. Yes, I am old, but I started early. I never ever imagined this could happen. I wonder what would have happened, if Bourne and Kraatz skated under this system. THEY WOULD HAVE GOTTEN CREDIT FOR THEIR TECHNICAL SKILLS!

YEEEEEAAAAAAAH!!!! My favorite ice dancing team of the last decade or so wins Olympic gold. I was verklempt after Virtue/Davis' free dance. I bet I wasn't the only one. Such soulful beauty with such explosive athleticism mixed in. It's like nothing I've seen before. And I just love this pic from their performance:

loved V/M!!! so beautiful!!!
1st and 2nd were both great!

I'd have had F/S for bronze, but, yeah, it's 6 am and I'm back dreaming ;) but I loved them!!!
