Ice Dancing - Free Dance (Mon. Feb 22 - 16:45)

I wonder when they will interview Maria Zoueva tonight. This is a results of decades of hard work on her part. Best for them since Katia and Sergei. For any G & G fans out there, do you notice that a part of V/M's OD music was from G & G short at 94 Olympics and the long program is the music Katia skated to the first time she came back skating in her husband's memory? Katia wrote that Maria was saving it for something really special? This is the second time Maria has used this music.

Wow. Just, wow. That's enough to make one less sentimental than I tear up. But not me, nope. I'm stronger than that, excuse me for a minute...

ok, first of all...wow. This was the most amazing night of figure skating i have ever watched. No one can deny that v&m deserved the gold. They were stunning. I honestly can't say anything else...

Second of all, d&w...amazing. Never really was a fan until tonight. I'm even more of a fan after they came over to congratulate their friends and training buddies on their gold and were so excited for them. Genuinely excited. They are the shining example of true sportsmanship. So kudos to these classy americans! :)

lastly, the north american drought is over! We as canadians and americans should be very proud of each other for that. Two north american teams on an ice dancing olympic podium. This is huge! If someone had said that would happen 10 years ago i would have laughed in their face.

So congrats to all medalists and especially our north american teams! Woooooooo!

ITA :clap::clap::clap:

We'd never see this under 6.0.

Actually I think you could well have seen it under the old judging system, I think it's highly possible that both the top two medal couples would have received 6.0s and the V&M could have got a clean sweep of them.

I love V&M because they actually dance. They don't just look liek they're doing required elements. Heck, I almost didn't realize they were doing required elements! So many of the other teams look like they are pushing through to get the twizzles, the footwork, etc done. They just flow through it.

V/M not only gave perfect tehnique but because of that real emotions for me watching them.
Exqusite, glorious. The time stopped for 4 minutes. Thius timeless quality what we hoped also in Torino but didn't get it by any dance couple there. Now, we got it by V/M.

Davis/White has the bravura. Breathtaking. Bright present and future. Loved them.

Rather feel sorry of B/A but they already got their gift in Torino with that silver.

I won't comment Dom/Shab. There was just nothing to care of.

I'm happy. Unexpected fair judging in this Olympic.

O.k I am going to bed with one final thought. I would dance for joy if Joannie Rochette could win the gold or silver medal in singles. I don't think anyone with a heart would disagree with me about that.

Well DesertRoad, I can make you cry a river. When Sergei died (this is from katia's book), Maria said a part of herself died too. She didn't know how she could go on. She loved him as a friend and her pupil She thought Sergei was her palete, molding sculpture, for her to express her artistic energy on. And when he died at 26 she thought she had lost her outlet too. In fact she has never coached another pair skater just the same as Katia has never skated pair again - until lately in the theatrical type of show in Russia.

When I found out that Marina gave Virtue and Moir the music from G & G, I thought she must think very highly of them. But to be honest, I never saw that in Tessa and Scott. I am loyal to G & G. No other teams could match them. But tonight in that performance and in their OD, I think I finally saw a glimpse of what Marina must have seen it V & M. Ok that's enough for me.

For those who watched it on NBC, did Tracy mentioned any T/D comparisons to Voir? I know she kinda brought it up on Uni Sports the other day so I wonder if she said anything about it now.

I think V/M's FD is this generation's "Bolero". Not say it's better than that (Bolero will never be touched) but what Jayne & Chris accomplished 26 years ago, Tessa & Scott accomplished tonight in their own special way.

This, EXACTLY this! This is what Robin Cousins was saying! And, on that note as it's 5.45am, I am off to bed before my two year old wakes up in about an hour!

Well said. I really enjoyed D/W. They skated their hearts out, it was very exciting.

But V/M was etheral.

While I think V&M were exceptional, I do not think the music was the best. It wasn't horrible, just a little too subtle/flat. I did not have the same feeling when they finished as I did when Shen and Zhao (pairs) won in Washington D.C. at Worlds and I knew that I had seen greatness not to be equaled for a very long time. The audience did too and stood and applauded for a for what seemed like forever. I didn't get that feeling this time.

Cadive, I will say again that they were not Torville and Dean which means they were not the Canadian equivalent of Torville and Dean either. We have yet to see their equal. Torville and Dean had a maturity these teams do not have. So we are really comparing apples and oranges.

Agree, especially in comparison to D/W. It was a hard thing to pull off. But somehow they did.

Oh no, I was referring to the fact that the younger dancers would have to wait their turn previously under 6.0. V/M and D/W are really babies in ice dance!

And I have suspect that under 6.0 DomShabs could have been held up more easily on TES.

Tracy didn't say anything like that tonight. Not even close. Actually, I was pretty surprised how restrained Tracy was. I could only imagine how she must feel for her countrymen tonight. But she was reserved in her commentary tonight. You could tell that she really enjoyed Virtue/Moir's performance b/c she was silent for about a minute after the performance ended. Tom Hammond had to prompt her to say something by asking her what she thought...

Congrats Tracy and all Canadians. I can only imagine how you feel...

No team can compare to any other team, but I think that if G&G were a dance team, they would have been like V/M. They really make it hard to believe they aren't an off ice couple, because they skate like they are so in love with each other. Their elegance, charisma, ease of skating, emotions rival G&G to me. And when it comes to dance, no they aren't T&D but for 'greatness' they are the T&D equivalent of the new scoring system.

Yes I agree. V/M share G/G's respect for ice and skating. They thought skating should be pure, to let it speak for itself. Especially Sergei, he detested overstatement in skating or in costume. You and I both know this is Zoueva's influence. V/M and G/G are great students of Zoueva...and so are D/W.

Tessa and Scott skated beautifully...it was breathtaking and so, so deserving of the OGM. I loved the fire and spirit that Marlie brought into the competition as well, and they deserved their silver medal. It wasn't first and second loser, Jamie, it was first and second winner, and one loser. :p

Still incredibly upset that Tanith and Ben got thrown under the bus like they did and lost to what I consider a far, far insuperior team. There were a lot of little things that lead up to this outcome, and Tanith and Ben just didn't have the political clout or the momentum. D/S got the bronze simply because of the flag they skate under, and because they have a coach who apparently knows where her priorities lie, and it wasn't with being equal and fair with all her teams.

Marlie and Tessa and Scott have accomplished something amazing today, but you can't deny that they stand on the shoulder of giants; of trailblazers that have cleared the way so that a night like tonight could become a reality. Tanith and Ben are one of those trailblazers, and I'm so heartbroken that no one else could see that.

Thanks for everything, Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto. You made ice dancing an event to watch in North America, and you should be very, very proud of what you've accomplished.

Now I guess Tanith and Johnny can go back to their room and commiserate now at the irony of them both being the sacrificial lambs "for the greater good". Heh.

Cool beans. I'm gonna hope nbcolympics.com will post their FD soon. I might as well stay up and watch the replay. British ES had a bad camera angle on that final pose. We got Scott's back instead of the front.

One thing tonight proved to me: Del/Sch should have been awarded the bronze four years ago instead of the Ukranians.

I think all of us agree on that. It was a touching and sweet farewell from Isa & Oli. Besides Merlie and Voir, their performance also stood out! :)
