NEWS! IceNetwork's conspiracy against Stojko!
Of course, Plushy did innovative combinations, with excellent quality (far better than Stojko). But Stojko's presence pushed the quad in general, whereas Plush perfected it. For instance, in the preliminary round, Brian Orser's 3A was included while Boitano's was not--I would argue Boitano has a bigger, more beautiful 3A than Orser, but Orser was the one who pushed the 3A into men's skating and is more closely associated with the jump. So the inclusion made sense. I probably would've included Stojko's quads for the same reason, at least ahead of stuff like "Sarah Hughes' layback spin" which was somehow in the preliminaries.
In this sense, Plush's combinations are like Yuna's 3-3: quality (though they were also innovative, since they were the "firsts," while Yuna wasn't first to do 3-3. Maybe she should've gone for 3-3-3 and would've won the poll? Nah, it probably came down to me clicking on my computer last night to hold the fort against a legion of Yuna fans.
