Evgeni Plushenko

I was going to make some snarky joke involving Timothy Goebel, but then I realized Goebel's entry was simply "quads." So, 4+3+3=10 > 3+3=6 > 4.

(Wow, between this and the crazy predictions thread, I've been doing more math than I had since graduating high school).

Did they include Goebel's quads in the poll? If not then obviously it's understandable why only Plushy's quads were voted for. ;)

They included Goebel's quads in the preliminary round. He didn't make it to the final. Plushy's entry technically wasn't "quads" it was "quad combinations."

If we're talking solely innovation, no accounting for quality, then Stojko wuzrobbed. His quads are probably the most innovative, even if these days he'd get +1 GOE at best. (He wasn't included in the poll).

Stojko might be disliked by the icenetwork, lol. But anyways Plushy's was the 1st to do 4-3-3, and he has many more firsts. The quality of his jumps were very good so it's understandable.
Not to mention he also has a lot of fans, maybe more than Yuna.

..."Between shows"? Hmm. Wasn't he supposed to go to a training camp or something?

It's hard to keep up with all the news and updates, but there was an interview with Mishin published yesterday somewhere, and he said Plushy might not make the camp in Italy and will go to the next one instead. Mishin has another camp in Turkey in July. But the one in Italy goes through July 3 so I suppose he could get there fashionably late as well. :)

NEWS! IceNetwork's conspiracy against Stojko!

Of course, Plushy did innovative combinations, with excellent quality (far better than Stojko). But Stojko's presence pushed the quad in general, whereas Plush perfected it. For instance, in the preliminary round, Brian Orser's 3A was included while Boitano's was not--I would argue Boitano has a bigger, more beautiful 3A than Orser, but Orser was the one who pushed the 3A into men's skating and is more closely associated with the jump. So the inclusion made sense. I probably would've included Stojko's quads for the same reason, at least ahead of stuff like "Sarah Hughes' layback spin" which was somehow in the preliminaries.

In this sense, Plush's combinations are like Yuna's 3-3: quality (though they were also innovative, since they were the "firsts," while Yuna wasn't first to do 3-3. Maybe she should've gone for 3-3-3 and would've won the poll? Nah, it probably came down to me clicking on my computer last night to hold the fort against a legion of Yuna fans.)

I tried the poll but never get to the end of it, the interface of icenetwork didn't work okay with my ipad so I didn't know that Stojkov wasn't in the list, and Goebel was also in the list. I remember voting for everything Plushy and Yulia, though.

Nothing can beat 4T3A3A3A3A of Yuzuru

But he didn't do them in competition. (He can't do them in competition even without combo rules, because Zayak).

Ye, sadly  If it would be allowed then system would possibly stop working not being able to handle such score for one jumping pass

If Zayak rule didn't exist, I don't know if either Yuzu or Plush would even do quads. They'd just triple axel-triple axel their way to everything.

Actually, I just remembered, there are many moves in the poll that are exhibition only. Scott Hamilton and Surya Bonaly's backflips, Johnny's backbend slide... So technically they could've included Yuzuru's 4T-3A-3A-3A. I guess it wasn't seen as really iconic/influential at this point. Still, I'd personally be fine with kicking out Sarah Hughes and Mirai Nagasu's laybacks to add in Stojko and Yuzu.

Plushyfan! You're here! We're already covered IceNetwork and its possible anti-Stojko conspiracy (long story).

But I need to ask, since if anyone knows, it's probably you. ;) Has Plush ever done 4T-3Lo? I read somewhere that he did, but maybe I imagined it. If he has, are there videos of this?

One other thing in that Mishin interview that stood out to me...this quote: "Perhaps such a comparison may seem immodest, but when Maya Plisetskaya performed in" Carmen Suite ", it was brilliant. When riding Plushenko - also shows that this great master. It is not a hindrance to our figure skating, as it is trying to provide some detractors" - said the coach.

I'm not too well informed about ballet so I looked up Maya's Wiki page, and it seems she would have been in her early 40s when she danced in "Carmen Suite," and she didn't retire from the Bolshoi until she was 65! Is that what Mishin has in mind for Plushy?

I googled and found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Luz5g-doa34 (Of particular interest 'cause Plushy has skated to Swan--twice!)

Haha, I don't know about Mishin, but I'm sure Plushy wants to keep skating until he's 80. ;) 65 is way too young, man.

(Now, whether they're planning to have Plushy competing until he's 40... I know I said I'd prefer him to compete until he's 40 if that ends the crazy motorbike act, but I never thought they'd take my advice! Darn it, pro scene, where art thou?)

yes, I'm here but I have no time to talk. My students are graduating this week. But I will be back!!!

Oh, that is my most favorite swan video:bow:! I was so shocked when I saw it :o: years ago. Anybody who wants skate swan has to see this.
Anyway, I would be very happy to see Plushy competing or performing until he's 80,
but I am not sure I could be in this world as a living human being:think:.

Yes, that's rather... amusing. Because she has no obsessive fans (obviously not all Yuna fans are obsessive!) - I mean... just ask Adelina...
I didn't vote. I don't trust Icenetwork. I was sure Yuna would win. Honestly, I was very surprised that I was wrong.

I didn't vote either - I was so distracted by football - or obsessive about football, if you will ;) - that I didn't actually even realise about the voting! So, here are two votes at least he didn't get! Let alone, people who spent all day voting, negllecting their work and lives - and... er... football - just to keep voting. ;)
