How?, this is not Clair de lune, but definitely Historia de un amor is not for frenetic skating if it's what you're implying
I mean her skating is kinda frantic so she doesn't do well classical. Modern music and Latin will help her look less frantic thanks to the nature of the style.

Uh you both realize that this piece has been widely used in figure skating overall, right? Ice dance (and I'm sure we'll hear it plenty in this coming seasons SD's) and many singles and pairs have used it as well.
For example: Ryan Bradley used it for his LP in 2009: https://youtu.be/BhZWCsbQ1Ww
And 2007(when he won silver at Nationals): https://youtu.be/91QKv8WO31Y

**It's the second piece used in the program mix of Latin rhythms.

yes, I know, it is just that with the latin rhythm this olympic season I couldn't help thinking that this was the less appropriate season to use it.
Adelina used it too as exhibition in 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WrsdSovBgA

Sounds like Elena and Maria both have programs that will suit them very well. Elena and Shae-Lynne sounds like a match made in heaven, and Maria's music choices are perfect for her soft style. I know everyone thinks Maria is boring and these are just more boring choices from her - but seriously, IMO, no one else in the field has the ability to skate to these pieces like Maria does, and it's good that she is playing to her strengths.

I agree with you re Maria but there is a wealth of classical music waiting to be 'discovered', okay Maria's team wants a slow beautiful classical piece - there are millions of choices but why it has to be Clair de Lune again? What about eg Mozart's Adagio of 21st Piano Concerto or Adagio of his Clarinet Concerto in A major:

Even talking about only well known classical works - there are dozens which would fit the bill and and either never been used before (in FS) or hardly ever... Skaters' determination to go with a tried & tested is 'admirable' :sarcasm:

Adding onto my above post: It's also been recently used in competition by Max Aaron, Javier Fernandez, Daisuke Takahashi and not so recently by Hay\Langlois
WeaPo has used it also and many others.

ETA-It will be interesting to see what Radio's team mixes this with for the LP because this isn't a piece you skate solely to for that long. If they solely use it then !

By the way, I get it, the Pérez Prado version is really good, but enough is enough, they should try other versions, especially now that lyrics are allowed.
omg, the Shibs will be skating to Pérez Prado too, I hope they won´t be using this song :palmf:.

I do have same interest...and came up with thought that they maybe will mix up some instrumental version as an introduction and then build it up with some version with vocals? Would LOVE to see Cesaria Evora or Luz Casal versions used!

and then, I started to wonder also, how actually would look like a mix between 'Historia de un amor' and 'Beautiful Maria of my soul' and if it could make a program...

no, I do not think they will use this particular song...Their Perez Prado program strikes me as to be with more playful, 'cheeky' tracks to be used. I assume they would play more on fun Latin/ballroom Latin than sensual/dramatic one vibe.

So the theme of this season (and every season really) is that skaters are damned if they do and damned if they don't? :sarcasm:

This is a forum, this is how it works. And I did not see people complaining about W / P choosing Spartacus, then no, it's not about condemning everyone, but if you just want to see praises, you can go to their personal social media accounts.

how many people watching, that many opinions, it is always about how people perceive those choices, process those programs by their own aesthetic. For me, skaters are free to choose and do what they want - it is usually a matter of taste/reception/opinion of people that trigger others and sparks arguments. I will just wait and see those programs and music in action, they mayyybe I'll post my opinion:)

btw LOVE your avatar RemyRose, always love me some SpiderBoyang:cheer:

Yeah, I agree with this point. Let them choose whatever, hell it may be a masterpiece! I'll judge after I see it though ;)

Thanks, SpiderBoyang is the best! Sad to see the program go but maybe he will surprise me with a new masterpiece :agree:

There is so much of Mozart that could be used. For everyone that use the main theme from Moonlight Sonata, I'll be thinking why not use L'ho Perduto from the Marriage of Figaro. The one I would really like to see skated is Masonic Funeral Music K477. Plus bolstering a classical score with additional effects is now so easy with electronic music. They can easily be used of the basis of amore modern and msuc larger sounding work.

I looked for the thread from some months ago asking "who's the best choreographer" and couldn't find it.

But I'm nominating Shae-Lynne Bourne. She can choreograph for Ashley:luv17:, Elena R., Yuzuru, Yulia, and now Nathan Chen ... and go so deeply into the strengths, style and intent of each skater that there's not a particular "Shae-Lynne" look to the programs.

I read a delightful interview of Elena a couple of days ago. She said she liked Shae-Lynne's demeanor when choreographing. When asked to elaborate, she said S-L has a light and playful attitude on the ice.

Being an Ashley Uber, I was already a fan of Shae, not to mention I loved her and Viktor when they competed. But the recent feature on the creation of Ashley's La-La Land program is really excellent and gives insight into both women and how collaborative S-L is. Shae said Ashley "makes people feel something" and it's a real treat to work with her. It's 15 minutes.

I think one also has to especially mention Seimei. Was there ever a more competitive programme that allowed the skater to go out on the ice and look that powerful and in control, and which allowed the skater to skate that on top of the music, and that assertively? Now, that was choreography that helped the skater go out there and get the points whilst being optimally artistic.

No offense because I love Shae-Lynn as a person, skater, and choreographer, but if you really take a good look, you can see her "style" in every single one of the programs she does. I'm not here hating or saying this is good or bad, but it's definitely there. ;)

Absolutely. at "Historia de un Amor" not being a warhorse.

With all of the others that I've said have used it in my other post on this thread it's definitely a warhorse!

Yeah, total warhorse. Even Sotnikova had it for a SP one season. One of her best program IMO!
