2015 Worlds Men Free Skate March 28

Color me majorly impressed by Hanyus ability to not implode despite a bad start. The skill will serve him really well moving forwards.

I find it funny how yesterday all of you said Ten was overscored(which he so blatantly was) but now you wanted him in front of Hanyu(which would have been impossible since he wasn't really perfect to justify a 6 points bigger score)

Congrats to the meddalist and the judges who got their order right

Yes, it shows that the scoring system regarding the falls is really not working.

And in particular, not working for the men's event. One point is a lot in ice dance, but almost nothing in the men's event since the elements are so high scoring, the way GOE and PCS are factored, etc. I think there should be a 3 point deduction for a fall in men's, 2 in ladies and pairs, and 1 in dance. That would make the fall deduction more proportionate across disciplines.

He wasn't the only one responsible for those 3 spots and it's not his fault both Kozuka and Mura did poorly in the short.
Anyway, congratulations to the medalists! :cheer: I hope the "Hanyu is always overscored/the new Patrick Chan" crowd can take a rest now.

I am glad it happened actually, the guy could do with a break and some decent competition. I just look forward to Patrick's come back to reclaim the throne. I don't think Hanyu is over marked. The mens have a more balanced international panel than the ladies.

Another year for the US men getting 3 spots by the skin of their skates.... had Rippon scored 0.7 points less, the US would only have 2 spots.

Hypothetically, it wouldnt have been <<. At most < and i don't think even that if he really went for it.

Im glad he didn't though. .. He has limits.

If it's enough rotation for a clean 3S, why wouldn't he go for that, instead of opting to bail out and turn it into a double? He must have felt it wasn't enough for a clean 3S, let alone a butt-landing 4S. I just never seen him pop jumps. (I didn't watch his CoC FS though, no ty lol)

Woke up to these results- have to say, sad that Josh couldn't quite make top 10, but happy the US keeps its 3 spots, and THRILLED that Javi won!! :cheer:

I'm sad that Hanyu was not able to put out his best performance as I know he wanted to do.
So happy that Javi got the medal he deserved.
I can see the fire burning in Yuzu again...next year will be fun.
Stay healthy you two.

Ten was definitely overscored yesterday, and so was Hanyu. I think D10 deserved silver, but as far as the errors he made, he wasn't going to get it. It's not an outrage though like when he lost in 2013 to Chan after a clean SP and a (visually) clean FS.

Oh dear, I still remember his first season, 2006/07, debutted in both junior and senior. He didn't make it to the FS at Europeand and Worlds but he was already so charming. And the Words in Moscow! With that performance of Pirates of the Caribbean he got the 4th tes but got buried in the pcs. Those marks still disgust the eck out of me. Oh my, never thought I could get so emotional after someone else's win!

So when you don't have a quad your transitions don't count?

I'm sorry, but a 10.00 in TR should go to a skater who does a quad, incorporating TR going into it. Even if the rest of the program is full of transitions, that (in my books) is a requirement for a PERFECT transitions score.

I saw everything except the beginning of Yuzu's, as I had to switch devices. I liked Javier's better, glad he won. I assume Hanyu fell while I was changing computers?

So happy for Jason, and kind of surprised. He didn't fall, but I even noticed the two foot axels. Love Nam--he is so cute! Adam did well, too--missed the quad, but did well beside that. I can't believe they actually got the three spots.

Actually, it was a good strategy to double it. His planned layout included 2 3A, 2 3Lz and 1 3S and if he tripled the 4S attempt he would have to either:
a. avoid repeating a 3A/3Lz, which have higher base value than the 3S or
b. double his planned 3S, which was in the 2nd half of the program.
Both of these options would have lowered his BV.

Also, not to fling mud, but the Kovtun haters got a baaaad taste of karma with Voronov bombing.

7th is actually pretty good for Kovtun considering his awful SP and his FS errors (still attempted 3 quads, and nailed 2 of them... and the only man to do both a clean quad and a clean quad-triple).

Should have been 10th though, given his PCS inflation in the SP. :rolleye:

Fine if you think that, but is something like that written in the rules?

I wouldn't give 10 to Jason anyway, but I still don't have a major problem with it.

Btw, your argument makes sense, but I don't mind Jason doesn't have the quad.
